why is chimney’s storyline this season just dealing with various crises that come with captaincy without actually diving deep into how he feels about all of it? why as the captain of the 118 does he feel like a side character?

why do madney as a couple not have a single solid plot of their own?

why are maddie’s only storylines dispatch related?

it’s high time they get another angsty plot of their own, and anyone who says they want them to remain happy doesn’t actually care about them or want to see them on screen.

maddie though....maddie breaks my heart!!! buck had already been resigned to his parents' lack of love long ago, but maddie always had hope. maddie knew they were bad parents but comforted herself in the fact that they at least loved each other. like that maybe makes up for it all. and now her life is a lie, again. her parents didn't love them and don't love each other. so what was the point of it all? maddie who is terrified that she'll become like her parents, unloving and unloved, realizing that their future is not her's. because she loved evan when they didn't, and she loves chim through everything. that she loves jee and nash no matter how difficult it is, that her parents when faced with obstacles to their love looked away and tried to bury them, but she faced them, she came out the other side, and she found people who would fight with her.

maddie who listened to the last call and knowing that there are people out there choosing to stay with each other even when it's hard. maddie listening to a husband who went through a time when he was suicidal, remembering walking into the ocean. maddie listening to him telling her that he chose to live because of her, knowing that she chose to live because of chim, and buck, and jee. maddie who lost sight for a moment but remembered -- she is not her parents. she has so, so much love in her life. and it was all because she fought for it.

i don’t know who needs to hear this (yes i do) but just because maddie is in her forties doesn’t mean she’s not allowed to get upset about her parents divorcing. the same parents she saw being united against her and buck. and now she has to wonder what the point of it all was, why they couldn’t be there for her, why she had to raise her brother, why it’s so easy for them to just give up.

stop invalidating a female character’s emotions just because her brother reacted a different way.

I don’t understand why the 9-1-1 writers consistently avoid giving Maddie a proper conversation with her parents about what they put her through, because how has Buck gotten multiple apologies and she’s had none? How has Buck gotten the acknowledgement that Bobby helped raise him and she hasn’t gotten anything about how she raised their son?

Especially in an episode where she was shown struggling with how they just gave up on each other after not fighting for them.

i think it’s time to kill one of the buckley parents and segue into maddie diving into her childhood trauma, which has never been properly addressed from HER perspective. in this essay i will…

half the season has passed and unfortunately the potential with maddie and chimney’s storylines has not been explored at all.

• maddie’s postpartum vs this experience wasn’t even mentioned and we’ve barely seen the han children.

• chimney’s insecurities as captain have been brought up here and there but no deep dive in helping him take that next step into not comparing himself with bobby.

there’s been only ONE madney solo scene (and two counting the firehouse convo between them in 9.01) which is genuinely shameful considering they’re supposed to be a main dynamic of the show.

let’s see what they do with nine episodes left but right now they’re being genuinely underutilized.
