Samantha and Grailin
Our family loves our friends Grailin and Lynda Fletcher. Tonight Samantha ran up to Grailin to tease him but couldn't remember his name. When she ran back to me the conversation went like this. Me- Do you remember his name? S- I keep forgetting it. Me- It's Grailin like the color gray and lin. S- (In her duh, silly mommy tone) GRAYlin?! But Mama he's BROWN! Grailin got a good kick out of it and made me promise to write it down. I love that I never know what my kids are gonna say. It's one of those precious gifts of life.
Bedtime Talks
I absolutely love my bedtime talks with my kids. They are my favorite conversations of the day. We always read a story from the Bible and end up discussing it. I love watching my daughter understand truth, her gift of mercy and her heart for God as it grows. I love my son's deep thoughts, his ideas and the gift of knowledge god has placed within him.
Tonight we read Daniel and discussed how one man's obedience and bravery led to thousands of people praying to the one true God. We discussed what would have happened if he had not been obedient. Also, how the world would have been different if Jesus had chosen not to obey the Father's wishes. We had a great discussion and I love watching them learn. I feel so blessed to be able to teach them everyday.
On a lighter note, during our discussion tonight, KJ had the idea that there should be a King or leader who is a Christian and makes everyone in the country pray to our God. "He just makes everyone follow him." I laughed and told him that he was going to really enjoy our History unit this year. As we study the Middle Ages and the horrible crusades I will be interesting to see how he reacts to their methods of forcing people to follow Christ. I told him, "That actually happened before and you'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.". I anticipate lots of deep discussions in the future this school year! I can't wait!
KJ wrote a massive paragraph today for IEW. It is a very rough draft but I am so proud of this little guy. Writing is our main focus this year and I feel a huge growth year coming!!!
Learning Morphographs!! SRA!!
I started reading the boxcar children to the kids today. Tonight we are eating the same meal as the children in the story did their first night in the boxcar...blueberries bread, cheese and milk. They liked the meal but are enjoying the book even more.
We're ready for another year!
Funny Things the Kids Said
KJ tells a joke about a dog.."a barking spot" Samantha corrects his speech- "no it's a PARKING spot" KJ trying to give facts about Abraham Lincoln "He lived in a house that he built out of Lincoln Logs" KJ trying to guess who is on a $20 bill gets the first half of last name and says "Jack from Newsies?!" Name that animal game. KJ age 5- "What are his natural predators? What's its lifespan? What's it's super power? " Samantha describes hers- " My animal has a pink nose. It's a pig and it has a pink tail...and it's a pig." She says the same things every single turn. Always afraid I'll forget these fun times. Now I won't. Parenting is awesome. I don't know what I ever laughed about before I had kids!
KJ's Excavation While digging in the backyard today KJ found a pair of glasses. He was so excited and keeps chanting, "I'm an archeologist! I'm an archeologist!" I'm guessing that the glasses were from the previous owner but we are having fun putting the clues together. He is now inspired and has asked to borrow the shovel from the garage.
Happy 25th Anniversary to the Hubble Spacecraft!! You have made our year studying space much more exciting!!
First Day of the Grove Basketball clinic. KJ and his coach had a good time.
This is why kids need Spring Breaks!! KJ finally got to build his K'nex roller coaster today! I love that this was his first priority for the week off. #engineeringiscool
We had fun at Daddy's school for the Easter Eggstravaganza today. The Murray family joined us and made it even better!

"Look Mom! I made you an eighth note hat! You can use it when you teach a student about eighth notes for the first time."
Samantha hanging out with her favorite stargazers and mathematician Galileo!!
Hanging out with these two little darlings today.
