hey im looking to improve my art and was wondering what kind of art study habits you have? So how often and for how long you draw plus if youve got any more tips?💕

yeah of course! sorry it took me forever to reply to this omg, life has been everywhere lately

i'm weird with my drawing schedule, i'll like draw every day for a couple weeks then not draw for a couple weeks... i wouldn't recommend that lol. i'd say if you're trying to improve try to be consistent! even if it's not every day, just every few days doing a quick sketch or study session helps

to study i do a lot of figure gesture drawing! i studied very basic anatomy from a science perspective to understand muscles too. right now i'm working on color theory so i've been reading books and posts about that. i would say just kind of... identify what you're having trouble with and then make that your focus? like i knew i struggled with colouring so i found a bunch of references for specifically that, and i know i have trouble drawing legs so i focus my figure drawing studies on just those sometimes. it's easier than just trying to learn everything at once and getting overwhelmed!

Hey, I was just wondering how you got good at drawing? I want to be able to draw fanart as good as this and others' work, and just wondered if you could give me any tips?

ah thank you!! honestly it is just a LOT of practice and studying. i have literally no natural talent for art so everything i know i had to learn, and if i ever don’t draw for months i end up having to relearn it almost lol. so definitely there’s the part of keeping at it, practicing always even if it’s just little sketches to keep yourself sharp

i spend a lot of time studying anatomy, the way things can or can’t move and how they look when they do. i have friends in art school so i’ve stolen their books before but there’s also tons of resources everywhere online, just searching on youtube or tumblr gets you a lot!

it’s also helpful, i find, to study stuff related to animation because it focuses on fluidity and expressiveness— this is smth i’m still newer at but resources and exercises specifically for animators can help make your art more expressive even if you aren’t trying to animate

i also use photo or life reference CONSTANTLY. i do figure drawing studies (pinterest is a good place to find a bunch of stuff, and there’s also just websites on google that will generate figure drawing sessions for you) for myself, but even when i’m drawing actual pieces i’ll use reference. basically if i’m ever even a little unsure how something should look i go find or take photos of it to check

i’ve only been seriously drawing for maybe 1-2 years so this is all stuff that i am STILL doing to get better, bc i’m nowhere near where i wanna be. but i have seen crazy improvement in my art over those years just from practicing and studying :’)
