âSelf-control is something for which I do not strive. Self-control means wanting to be effective at some random point in the infinite radiations of my spiritual existence.â
â Franz Kafka, The ZĂźrau Aphorisms
âSometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tiptoe if you must, but take a step.â

Candid and open conversations that resonate deeply, which were once more of an occasional occurrence, have become more frequent in recent months. Itâs funny how quarantine has a way of connecting people more honestly. After one of these talks with a friend over coffee a few days ago, I felt the need to share the heart of our conversation which made me reevaluate what it means to show up for oneself and others....

What some people coin âThe Cult of Righteousness,â or what Iâve personally deemed âbeing a tyrant of beliefâ is the idea that your opinion, your way of life, your ethics and values are âaboveâ or âgreaterâ than others. If people donât agree with you or their opinion or belief differs from yours, they are âwrongâ or âbad.â This is particularly the case in group-thinking, but I think we all suffer from it at some point personally. It can permeate many realms of our lives. It can come from thinking you are above someone else because of your lifestyle choices, interests, ideology, spirituality, financial status, job, culture, race, education level, sexuality, gender, even the way you see the world. Historically, this way of thinking has created much harm and has manifested itself to the point where we dominate each other because we believe we hold the âbetterâ beliefs or opinions...

We encourage the dialogue between different peoples, ideas, and lifestyles. Our latest theme, Metanoia, focuses on the transformation of oneâs mind, heart, and self. Our sub-themes are Social Justice, Mental Health, and The Ego. If youâve got thoughts on any of these topics or are a self-proclaimed writer, weâd love to hear from you! If you have any questions, you can message me or take a look at our Submission Guidelines.
Edouard Boubat, Inde, Madras, 1971.
The essence of Boubatâs spirit is summed up in his own words: âJust as love at first sight erases everything and creates a kind of void, so I must confess that, when I take a picture, I have no desire, no intention, no memory. What I am photographing has taken control of me, it is a leap in the dark. Itâs over in a second. This vacancy allows the fleeting instant to break through, the instant in which everything is plunged into one unique light.â (From Edouard Boubat: Pauses, 1983) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE2BmBzAAwk/?igshid=xhjsibsf5joy
