not to be an absolute pillar of salt but br*ke sure did have some nerve w/ that ‘’’’’parody’’’’’ making fun of zutara shippers supposedly expecting katara to change her mind w/o explanation when that’s 100% literally how they actually handled her deciding to be w/ aang in the actual show 🙃🙃🙃🙃
Was a banger on twitter so I guess I'll post this here
Look, if you want me to stop shipping Zutara you have to take out way more than the forgiving hug scene.
you would have to change the entire show starting from episode one, that's when i first saw those parallels
You sunshine, you temptress
My hand’s at risk, I fold
God i love this
posting this here!! <33 anyways stan @hayleynwong, zutara and taylor swift for clean skin. and happy zutara month :))

(54/365) Zutara Week 2020: Day 5- Hesitancy
Well, somehow it's really difficult for me to draw this prompt so I did a redraw of scene from one of my favorite ATLA episode: The Crossroads of Destiny.
Although this entire episode was basically about some Big Hesitancy of the characters: Zuko- his entire life mission, Aang -his Avatar state thingy. I chose this, because in this scene it looks like Katara was somehow hesitating to leave Zuko and Iroh..
I got this inspiration after I read a very good meta about the psychology of both characters during this episode, go check it out (link below)~ XD
Also go check more of Zutara arts in my #zutara tag at my artblog~

so i saw this kat/aang post on instagram and you know what, they’re right! i do get emotional over this scene.
i get emotional over the fact that a fourteen year old girl was forced to put herself in mortal danger to drag her love interest out of a wildly uncontrollable, incredibly powerful state that literally everyone else ran and hid from. i get emotional over the fact that the only expression on her face is that of complete despair and resignation, because she knows that if she doesn’t do it, no one else will. i get emotional over the fact that she never got back even a fraction of this comfort and support, even when she most needed it. i get emotional over the fact that the same boy she sacrificed her safety for, the same boy she’s taken care of with all the love she can offer since the day she met him, couldn’t give up his unhealthy attachment to her to control the very state that put her in so much danger in the first place, despite knowing that’s what she would want. i get emotional over the fact that this boy would later violate her boundaries, and never apologize for it, and in fact get rewarded with her romantic affections. i get emotional over the fact that this poor girl, who gave so much and got so little in return, would spend the rest of her life doing this exact same thing until she became a shadow of her former self.
and most of all, i get emotional over the fact that this is seen as some kind of beautiful romantic act, when it is, in actuality, an incredibly terrifying and saddening burden that katara should never have had to shoulder.
At first, she would hear the same thing over and over.
He’s the enemy, how can you want to be with him?
And yes, he was an enemy for a long time. And honestly, she hadn’t wanted to like him. After the first time, she swore she would never forgive him, would always hate him for sounding so sincere and honest only to betray her so soon after. The price of trusting him was too high, she thought.
But she had been naive to believe everything could be so simple, to believe that morality was black and white and struggling to find your moral path meant you were weak. Because Zuko did struggle, he struggled and fought so hard and it was this struggling that proved just how strong he really was, just how much he cared about doing the right thing. She saw it in him even when she tried not to.
It wasn’t until she was in the heart of enemy territory, fighting her own separate battle within the murky depths of morality that she realized he had not only won back her trust but that he was standing aside, trusting her, waiting for her to find the path to herself. And through her pain, she found she was grateful it was him. Because she didn’t think anyone else would understand just how heart-rending, how confusing the struggle was. Or how after the path is found, you feel both invincible and brittle at the same time.
Yes, he was once an enemy. But despite how much she needed to hate him, his earnestness shattered every stubborn conviction she fostered about who he was and what he represented. After that, there was no going back even if she wanted to.
Yes, he was an enemy. But wait, she’d say, and watch. You’ll understand soon enough.

Prompt: Shattered
Ugh, I started this prompt late last night and couldn’t work on it again until after work today. Feels rushed and I may go back and tweak some things if I find them bothering me, but it also felt really good to draw this out and not over-work it like i usually do. :D
Mother you don’t understand; I made Hades run to me. He saw my bones underneath And offered me half his kingdom. Do you really think I ate the fruit unwillingly?
-Persephone’s Return, a. davida jane
Zutara Month Day 5: I drew this piece last year for ZK Mythical Creatures Week, but had always been curious about how it would look if I swapped who was in the role of Persephone and who was in the role of Hades. When I saw that day 5 of Zutara Month was Hades and Persephone, it seemed like a good excuse to finally try that. I didn’t have the spoons to redraw things so that Persephone!Zuko was holding the pomegranate, but recoloring was do-able, so we’ll just say that Hades!Katara found it and was asking him about it. Maybe I’ll do a full redraw later sometime.
I’ve recc-ed it before, but for a Zutara meets sort of Hades/ Persephone: (Don’t) Follow Me Down by eleventy7

to lovers:
This is why Zutara is a top tier ship, look at all that beautiful drama that could have resulted in a wonderful romance.
So I heard that Ross has Zutara crop tops…
why is “zuko would have taken the lightning for anyone but that wasn’t the point of the scene because it wouldn’t have the same meaning if it was anyone other than katara” so hard for people to grasp
the “zuko would take lightning for anyone” argument’s reasoning implies that zuko’s redemption wasn’t complete until he sacrificed his life for a former enemy - it doesn’t matter who he sacrifices for, just that he makes a sacrifice. and therefore, by extension, this means that zuko’s sacrifice was only significant to his journey, and had no significance to the arc of the person he was risking his life for.
to begin with, i disagree that the lightning scene is needed solely for the pupose of showing zuko’s “goodness.” zuko’s redemption was solidified the moment he confronted his father on the day of the black sun. he proves that he has changed again and again throughout season 3 - turning on combustion man, going on field trips with aang, sokka, and katara, training aang to face his father, and in general, showing he can be trusted through his friendships with the gaang. by the time the agni kai comes around, zuko has proved his goodness and he has proved that he’s changed.
so why is the sacrifice scene so important for zuko’s redemption arc? because it isn’t only meant to show how far zuko has come - but also how far zuko and katara’s relationship has come.
katara is not just an expendable character in the emotional climax of the entire show - her role is just as important in the final agni kai as zuko’s and azula’s. she wasn’t a “prop” in the final fight, only present to highlight zuko’s virtue - she was an active participant. the scene simply would not have the same effect if you just replaced her with anyone else because katara’s character has emotional and symbolic significance to this scene.
it’s true that katara has forgiven zuko by the time sozin’s comet comes and they are shown to have a solid friendship. however, their relationship arc is not truly complete until the final agni kai. zuko’s actions need to come full circle - instead of betraying katara for azula, he has to betray azula for katara. (atla is a show that is inundated with narrative parallels, i’m not sure why this particular parallel between the b2 and b3 finales is so hard for people to grasp? especially since each separate battle during sozin’s comet has parallels that tie back to earlier in the show).
a major part of katara’s character arc involves coping with the fire nation killing her mother, and as zuko is fire nation, he is intrinsically going to be part of that journey. katara has to see the person who was once the face of the enemy instead, sacrifice everything for her. katara has to see the person she was paired up against in every season finale, instead, fight on the same side as her. katara has to see the person who once betrayed her, instead show that he will never make the same mistake again.
zuko has to make his sacrifice for the person he worked the hardest to form a friendship with. zuko has to make his sacrifice for the person who once stood in the way of everything he wanted. zuko has to make his sacrifice for the one person he connected with over the pain the fire nation has caused them both. zuko has to make his sacrifice for the person he once betrayed to show that he will never make the same mistake again. and only one person checks all of those boxes: katara.
of course, katara is not responsible for zuko’s redemption and zuko is not responsible for her desire to help people who are different from her. but that doesn’t change the fact that their shared interactions have influenced them as individuals, and their changing relationship parallels their changing character development as well.
zuko’s sacrifice is just as important to katara as it is to himself, which is why the “he would take lightning for anyone” misses the entire point of the scene.
i’m tired of the insistence on erasing katara’s significance in the narrative just because of a ship. she is not replaceable. her character growth and her relationship arc with zuko are just as valuable and important to the show as zuko’s relationships with aang, toph, and sokka.
really REALLY ROUGH ANIMATION I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR ALL OF YOU THIS IS REALLY HARD
