PCOS and Difficulty Getting Pregnant
Yes, I took 5 pregnancy tests just to make sure I was pregnant.
The pic only shows 4 but, I took 5. Crazy as it sounds? I was pregnant and I just could not believe my eyes.
Me? Pregnant? wow. Unbelievable? Why? I was diagnosed with PCOS since 17 years old and I have been battling it for the longest time. I knew for years that it was going to be challenging for me to have kids, so I just made peace with it. Not until I met my husband. After I met him, I wanted to have children with him. I wanted to have mini hims running around the house. Then, came along the battle with PCOS.
PCOS ( Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a hormonal condition that affects about 1 in 10 women. It means that your hormones are imbalanced. Imbalanced hormones mean complications with everything you can possibly think of. Infertility, missed periods or none, weight gain, excess hair (everywhere), depression, diabetes and more. To keep it under control, you must try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sounds easy? Not so much.
Luckily, I was already working out; a little too much( I will get into that topic later- I used to crossfit) and ate healthy only because I am lactose intolerant. I believe being lactose intolerant played a big role in my eating habits.
After countless days and nights of crying, I was finally pregnant. Many of you are probably wondering, was it through IVF?
No, it wasn’t through IVF. Prayers were answered and we were blessed. I was pregnant naturally and with twins. Twins do not run in either our families and it sure was a shock.
These are the reasons why I took 5 pregnancy tests and paranoid me, I still could not believe it. I remember talking to my husband on the phone the night before my appointment. I was scared and didn’t want to go because I wasn’t brave enough to hear the bad news, that maybe, just maybe, the docs might tell me that those tests were wrong.
Little did I know that this was just the beginning.
