Heba whipped around to glare at Atem, balling his hands into fists at his sides. âNo!â he shouted, the loudness of his own voice startling even him. âYou donât get to be mad about this! You donât get to be depressed because Iâm mad at you!â Heba felt as if he couldnât breathe. How could he not want Atem? How could Atem even think that? And to hear the other call the affairs private, when Heba had an actual duty, as the Crown Prince, next in line after Atem (for now), to know the problems of their kingdom was the final blow. It was like a knife plunged right into Hebaâs heart.
Even Atem didnât think Heba worthy of the title.
âIf Iâm so unbefitting my station in life, then itâs no longer about what I want. Itâs never been about what I want. Apparently, everyone agrees that my wants, my will, my existence are all better left ignored. There are no exceptions. No one believes I should be here, so I wonât. Iâm tired, Atem.â Heba almost never used his brotherâs name. He preferred the affectionate âAkhiâ, to show his love for the other every time he called to Atem, or even just spoke about him.
âEven you canât handle the no-good Prince, anymore.â Whatever anger Heba had had, it was all gone. There was nothing left if not even Atem could really see Heba. The one person in the world the Prince had thought could see who Heba truly was⌠couldnât. It seemed Atem viewed Heba the same as all the other nobles did.
The same as their father had.
âIf youâll excuse me, my Pharaoh.â Not once in his entire life had Heba used Atemâs title when speaking to his brother. Another first came when he bowed at the waist, before turning for the door, once again, though his steps seemed a bit more sluggish, this time.
His eyes widened as Heba had rose his voice at him, using his name instead as well. That had meant Heba was serious, that he was hurting. However, the words coming from him were untrue. He never felt he was unbefitting. Never. The man was just shielding Heba from this life. He had no intentions of dying and letting Heba experience this never ending stress that plagued him every day and night. He didnât let Heba in because it was too much.
If his brother really saw what he dealt with at times he would grow concerned for Atemâs mental health...but, he didnât let him see it. He just wanted his brother to live a happy life. After all their father had been so cruel to Heba.
But to see this explode in his face like this was hard. He didnât know how to approach this as he was watching Heba growing more upset by the second.Â
âThatâs not true! Youâre not some no-good prince! Youâve never been no-good. Youâre smart and gentle just like our mother...â He then looked down as Heba had used the terms he was using towards him. It really hurt but, it was clear signs Heba was hurting too.
âI never meant to make you feel like this...to feel so lowly of yourself..I just wanted to protect you..instead I did more harm..I am sorry, Akh..you donât deserve that.â
