Winterfest of 1851 was a sorry affair for the Flinn household. Anne had gone into labor on Winterfest Eve, and had been shut up in the bedroom with Ronan for hours, and then later, with the doctor too, whom John had to be sent to town to fetch.

John did his best to distract his younger siblings, but there was nowhere in the house that they couldn’t hear their mother struggling. Eventually, he managed to get the younger three into bed, but was unable to sleep himself.

Finally, over a day after the ordeal began, a little baby’s crying echoed through the house.

The day after Winterfest, far earlier than she should have arrived, little Rose Jane Flinn came into the world, relatively healthy, much to the relief of the entire family.

Save File: The Sheppard Family

Lee

Lee works in the tech field and has always had a knack for anything computer-related. He is family-oriented, loyal, and a bit of a Geek.

Aubrey

Aubrey works as a painter and has always enjoyed her crafting. She is family-oriented, creative, and can be a perfectionist at times.

Lee and Aubrey have five daughters who all seem to be the total opposite of them. All of their kids excel in sports, and none of them seem to have inherited their parents' love of creative works. Days can get pretty hectic trying to get the kids to all their practices on time.

Stella

Stella is the cheer captain and loves to be the center of attention. She is always up for a party and has been known to sneak out a few times.

Kate

Kate is into snowboarding and rock climbing. She is quite adventurous and sometimes freaks her parents out with the tricks she attempts on the slopes.

Lexie

Sometimes Lexie can end up as the forgotten middle child, but she doesn’t let that bother her. She loves playing soccer and training the family dog, Peaches. She is trying to convince her parents to let her enter Peaches into an agility competition.

Riley

Riley loves anything about horses, and it can be difficult to get her to talk about anything else. During the summer, she gets to attend horse camp. She has a countdown to it every year.

Ellen

Ellen is the youngest and is a bit rambunctious. She loves bowling and archery, and maybe a few pranks on her older sisters.

The family got another new dog, Hunter. They also welcomed a daughter into the family, Seasaidh.

Oisean has died at the age of 4. Twins have been born into the family, a girl named Floireans and a boy named Calum.

1540

Chip & Raonaid

Rocky has passed and now Chip is the only horse the family owns.

Fionnlagh's music has caught the ear of some of the wealthy people of the town. He spends almost every night away playing his music. The family has become much more well off now.

Dear Mamma,

I find myself thinking more and more often of your pregnancy with Sophia. You were older than I am now, and yet I find myself constantly exhausted the further along I get.

Ronan makes me rest in the house all day. Thankfully John and Maggie are old enough to pick up some of the chores, but it worries me nonetheless. I will make sure Ronan writes as soon as the baby is delivered, so you may know how I and the babe fare.

The ranch is doing well. The flock now sustains itself, with plenty of new lambs born each spring. We have that to look forward to next season. We have also put another addition on the house, and moved the parlor and kitchen to it, so that there is more space for the children’s beds. The house feels so big now, but it is still yet smaller than the house we lived in on the bay when I was born, not to mention the grand house in town after that.

Super Sim: Childhood

Sadie decided she needed to adopt her own pet. So one day she skipped school and adopted a cat named Burger. Her mother was not too pleased about this, but did not have the heart to make her return Burger.

This summer, Sadie went to camp. The family dog, Milo, decided to follow her and spent the whole week with her at camp.

In the late fall of 1850, the Flinn's added a front room to the ranch house, giving them a proper parlor for the first time, and allowing the children to have somewhat seperate rooms.

Anne in particular enjoyed having her rocking chair moved into the front room, where she could keep an eye on the comings and goings even as her pregnancy progressed.

The beloved stallion Rocky has sired a filly named Chip. This same year Dubhghall at the age of 36 dies. With that gen 1 is officially dead.

However in 1535 the first child of gen 3 is born, Oisean!

As John turned twelve, his love of the schoolhouse and learning did not diminish. In fact, it only increased. Especially with the addition of his newest and closest friend, Oliver Morrison. The eldest of the Morrison children, Oliver was thirteen, being a few months older than John. And yet, they got along impressively well, talking of Dickens or Dumas’s The Three Musketeers.

Oliver delighted particularly in the more adventurous tales, while John preferred more scholarly readings, but they found enough to talk about that they were nigh inseparable.

And the boys’ little sisters were practically attached at the hip as well. The connection the girls had formed at Harvestfest hadn’t faded, and had in fact strengthened with every day they spent playing at recess, or seated beside each other in the schoolhouse.

Barley has succumbed to old age. His son, George, stood guard until the grim reaper collected his soul.

In other news, Raonaid found herself a man.

Mawwiage between Raonaid & Fionnlagh is what bwings us together today.

Fionnlagh is a loyal and socially awkward man. He enjoys the violin and piano and loves his family.

Soon after this portrait was taken Caomhainn at the age of 15 died.

Dear Jane,

There is simply so much good news this year! I’m so happy to hear of the smooth delivery of your little daughter, Adela. Though I wish you luck with managing two little ones. And for Sofia to have twins! Mamma must be so happy.

I was also glad to hear of the fine improvements to your house, George certainly has the money for it. We need to make an addition of our own I think, it really is getting cramped in our house with so many children, but I am reluctant to tap into our savings so much.

We have a new family in town here, the Morrisons. We had them for Harvestfest, and though I could tell they were surprised by the small nature of our home, they were pleasant people. Maggie is happy to finally have a girl her age to befriend. There is apparently also a son John’s age, though he was laid up with some illness and declined to attend with his parents and sister. The wife, Giselle, made very pleasant conversation with me, though Ronan is not entirely at ease with her husband, Frederick. We shall have to see how things develop.

I do have some news, but please do not tell Mamma, for I have not even told my own husband. I believe I am with child again, and this shall have to be my last. I can already feel the fatigue setting in. Don’t worry though, I’m sure I can manage, and I’ll have plenty of help.

Super Sim: Toddlerhood

Sadie is much different from how Savannah was as a toddler. Sadie seems to want to learn everything she possibly can and is advancing much quicker than Abigail expected. All Abigail can try to do is keep up.

In the fall of 1850, a new family moved to Castaña. With Ronan busy working the ranch and her older children at school, Anne got the other ladies in town together, and they paid the new family a visit.

The Morrisons were pleasant people, even if it was clear they were far wealthier than any of the other residents of Castaña. Mr. Frederick Morrison was happy to talk with Soterra, the mayor’s wife, and Anne spoke with his wife, Giselle.

Upon learning the family hadn’t even had time to set up any of their furniture, she invited them out to the ranch for Harvestfest the following day. At the very least, she knew Maggie would be pleased, as the Morrisons had a daughter just her age, and a son John's age, so perhaps even a new friend for him.

Meet the Morrisons, they'll become very important in the next two decades or so.

I am now officially back too. We'll have a new post schedule, mornings Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! Plus builds and maybe some other posts sprinkled in when I feel like it.

The family has bought a new dog to breed with Barley. They had two puppies, Doris & George.

The family has also recently acquired some new sheep.

The puppies have grown up and Doris has made it her mission to be a menace on society. The family has sold Doris to a neighboring farm.

George is a perfect angel.

Dear Mamma,

I can scarce keep up with the news you write me! First Jane’s darling little Edward was born, then Sofia-Maria married to her baker, and now both Jane and Sofia expecting! And for Jane to be expecting again, after all of her and George’s struggles. Oh I am so happy.

It is good that you write only good news, for I’m afraid the mood is a bit down here. Ronan got a letter from his sister, Hanora. There was a terrible carriage accident, and both of his parents have died. I have been doing my best to cheer him up. We threw a little celebration for both of our birthdays, since they are so close together. And we had a very good sale with some of the sheep and the wool, so that cheered him some.

In other news, we are no longer living in Mexico. As of last week, we are living in the New Mexico Territory of the United States. It hasn’t really affected us much, but the mayor was quite displeased, and Ronan and I have been making sure we have all the paperwork for the property and house, just in case.

We were talking with the Roberts about it on our last trip into town, and apparently we were supposed to be a new state, but apparently an agreement could not be made on the topic of slavery, so we shall remain just a territory for now. It’s a particular point of contention for them, with Mr. Roberts having escaped slavery some years ago and fled here.

Raonaid

Dubhghall continues to raise his two children by himself. Raonaid has begun helping her father with his duties on the farm and ensuring there is always food for her brother.
