There's no doubt about the fact that Caitlyn's signature colour is blue - between her hair, eyes and her uniform, she's practically dripping in the colour. But what about the Kiramman family as a whole? It's common for families of such high status to have signature colours in worlds like Arcane, so what's the Kiramman family colour?
There are several pieces of evidence for this presented throughout the show.
To start with, in 'Happy Progress Day', during the scene where Jayce is tormenting Caitlyn in true big brother fashion at the Kiramman family tent, we see banners hanging up behind them for both House Talis and House Kiramman.
The Kiramman banner is green. It shows up again during Jayce's speech, where it is still green.
We can also see that the Kiramman family tent itself is green, both the outside and the inside.
Secondly, the Kiramman key; arguably one of the most important pieces of Kiramman family lore, being the method by which one would access the great Kiramman archives, passed down from matriarch to matriarch...
...is also green. It's the exact same shade of green as the banner too.
Furthermore, green is a very prominent colour within the Kiramman mansion.
The walls are green, and the chairs Tobias and Caitlyn are sitting on are also green - yet again, a very similar shade.
The office is also predominantly green, again with the walls and chairs being that colour.
Before she changed them to purple for her situationship's name, Caitlyn's bed curtains were that same shade of green.
And finally, the Kiramman portraits.
The wall is of course green, but the woman in the middle (presumably Cassandra's mother and therefore Caitlyn's grandmother) is wearing green, and the sofa the woman on the left is sitting on is also green.
It is very clearly established that green is a key colour for the Kiramman family. So, now the only thing left to ask... is why? Why green, out of all colours?
The idea that immediately comes to mind is wealth; green is a colour very commonly associated with wealth, and the Kiramman family is one of the richest in Piltover. It makes sense, but it's a bit boring, right? I have some other theories.
First, healing. Green is associated with health and healing quite a lot, and both matriarchs we got to see within the show demonstrate a willingness to and also actively attempt to heal the people around them. Cassandra was the one to rid Zaun of the Grey, a monster that had been tormenting them for years and stripping them of their lives. She healed them.
And then, as for Caitlyn... there is an abundance of instances where she demonstrated her kindness and tried to heal people. To name a few, we have:
When she hugged Huck. This was more of an emotional healing, but it still counts.
Giving up her childhood gun in order to get medicine for Vi. This was after first attempting to heal Vi herself by attempting to clean up her wounds with her handkerchief, and also telling her she has a "good heart". Sound familiar? Vander told Vi that same phrase - Caitlyn reaffirmed it, healing Vi in a moment of doubt.
She also attempts to heal the man the Firelights injured at the airship smuggling attack, using her handkerchief to staunch his bleeding while promising his safety - "I can protect you."
And finally, of course, there's her line to Ekko. "These cities need healing." Her entire investigation throughout season 1 was her attempt at healing the cities; by getting to the bottom of the crimes, she could bring justice to those hurt and return peace to the cities. She was trying to heal them.
Alternatively, it could be a reference to nature. The Kiramman family originally hails from Ionia, which is very harmonious with nature, and so their family colour could be paying tribute to their origin and acting as an attempt to remember where they came from amidst the ever-developing metropolis of Piltover where everything is industrial. It could also be a nice link to the significance of the Kiramman garden.
When Jayce visits Caitlyn, she's there to find peace in her grief. She tells him that the garden was "the only place she and her mother never fought". Despite their rough relationship, the garden united them (maybe even healed them? 😉) and acted as a safe sanctuary where they could go for an escape. It's very clearly an extremely important place to the Kiramman family, and their family colour making reference to that would immortalise that importance.
I'm sure there are many other interpretations that could be drawn, but these two are my personal favourites. If you sat through this whole thing, thank you! I'm very passionate about Caitlyn and her family and it means a lot that you took the time to listen to me and my analysis. You get a cupcake! :)🧁
