As a publication that started from a desire for a specific vein of politicized art, we often feel that we would be remiss to avoid engaging with our present context. We usually just do this in conversation and through each issue. At the moment, however, we feel pulled to do more. So we are putting out a call for submissions for a rapid response edition that will be titled FUCK ICE. This edition will be filled with contributions from (and edited by) volunteers as per the usual, but all the money generated from the purchase from each issue will go to the Pillsbury United Rapid Response Fund. The landscape of tyranny is shifting fast, so for now we plan for that money to go Minneapolis. As the hotspot of ICE abuse shifts, those plans may change once the publication is released.
We are looking for the typical speculative fiction, poetry, and non-fiction that is our bread and butter. We also don't need these pieces to be super polished. We want true rapid response through art. We want to display how our community of readers and writers are feeling here and now. If you want to write an essay about how our current administration resembles something like the Empire in Star Wars, go for it! If you want to imagine a future where we pummel ICE into the ground, please, yes, now! Whatever way that speculation strikes you for this moment, write it and submit it. We are going to try and stuff this volume with as much writing as possible.
As usual, this will be a print and online edition. The Kismet Magazine will be eating printing costs. We hope to have the physical edition and online edition circulating by first few weeks of March. Submissions page is ready to go on our website. So go write something, send it our way, and forever and always FUCK ICE!
Look for more updates from us in the coming few weeks about this and a few other things!
