what i love is the desperation of sending letters through a group of people jonathan KNOWS probably work for his captor, probably knowing it's likely not to work, but he's gotta try.
and the count knows - obviously he knows that both of these letters are from jonathan, and obviously he knows he was hoping they'd make it out without his knowledge - he's just playing with his food at this point, knowing jonathan has no choice but to play along because they both know he'll kill him if he brings attention to the fact that he's obviously going to kill him.
whether he's found jonathan's journal, whether or not he can read shorthand - he knows that letter was a cry for help and he's just mocking jonathan by pretending it's not obvious
I keep going in with the intention of writing some gentle conflict in my book and I end up on the other end with a gay couple. Kinda love it.... Have no idea why it keeps on happening tho.
I have no idea how I want to portray some parts of this book. Mainly the title machine KRONOS. I may be an artist but I mostly focus on people, and even then I have a very cartoon like style. But KRONOS, in my mind is all machine, wires and metal, and all that stuff. I’ve been considering commissioning an artist to draw the machine but... I just finished my summer job, and most of that money is for university. So for a little while the best we’ll have for visuals on the tech stuff in the book is my silly little drawings. Like this MS Paint version of KRONOS.
Please keep in mind this is mainly to help Me visualize the different parts of KRONOS when I write so it’s not perfect, and a little bland.
Just wrote a scene with a Big reveal for the book, and honestly... I think I might have to go back an redo it. I really didn’t want to over do it, but I think in trying not to overdo it, I accidentally made it underwhelming. I also don't know if I hinted at it enough before the reveal or if maybe it needed to wait longer until it happened. Honestly my original idea was to drag it out a little but when I was writing the scene I just... didn’t. Whoops
For Context! One of the characters in my book, Jacob Merit, is trans masc. There is a part of the story where it’s mentioned that he is wearing his binder. Hear is me explaining why Jacob hasn’t had top surgery yet.
Reason #1 : He isn’t the biggest fan of medical procedures. He wants to get top surgery one day but right now he’s still really nervous about it.
Reason #2 : He is very busy! A workaholic this man is. So he doesn’t want to take that much time off work just yet. Plus there’s always a new and exciting experiment that he could be working on, and he doesn’t want to miss out on it.
Reason #3 : Author reason here. I didn’t want to make Jacob being trans a big deal, and instead of having a moment where he takes his shirt off and people can see his scars, I found it easier to incorporate him wearing a binder into the story.
Also like... if other people want to have different interpretations of why he hasn’t had top, and maybe that validates their experience, I’m not going to stop them.
Do I have a portion of my book where two women realize their feelings for each other as one recites one of Sappho's poems? Absolutely. Do they kiss after? Yes 100% they do. Is it cheesy and also wonderful at the same time. Of course. Is my book a rom-com... no :(
I made it to my goal of words this month for Camp NaNoWriMo!! 30,000 Words! I know the goal is traditionally 50,000 but for myself I had to lower the goal to fit my life. I’m very pleased with myself!
I’m not going to, but there’s a scene where Johnny, one of the people from the past, is teaching the others about hockey and the temptation to put in a line like, “That means you haven’t known the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school hockey,” Like it would be funny, but it would eventually date the book a little, and well, I mean it’s not like that won’t happen anyways, but I don’t think it really fits. If this was a fanfiction though? It would totally be in there.
I just wanted to say, even though this page has been inactive for some time now, the story, although it was dormant for a while, is taking on a new life. For all of July I have been working on getting this story to a point where I was happy with it. I am no where near finished with the story but I have made a handful of changes that I think will better fit the story. For example, the story is no longer told through various entries of sorts. Instead the story has a singular omnipotent narrator. The story has also taken on a new name, The KRONOS Experiment, named after the central machine used in the story.
I have also expanded the story to include more characters within the laboratory itself, and a few less people from the past. With this announcement I will be changing up the look of the blog. And I will also be sharing progress and maybe little character files as I continue with writing.
I ask that this letter is held in confidentiality so those for the revolution will not be able to track me.
I must leave the area, they believe I am their enemy. I may continue to send you letters but if they suddenly stop it does not mean I am gone forever. Only if you see in the paper that they have caught me will you be sure I am gone.
They will see. The people will rise and then I will return, and explain myself.

I am staying with a nice family in the forest for now. I cannot stay long, lest I bring the revolutionaries attention to my location, and thus bring trouble to this kind family.
I do not believe that they are hunting me down, but I do believe that they will take me in if I am to be caught.
Life will be better once this is over. Perhaps I could get a small house with a farm. That would be nice, I think.
Another day gone, Roza knows that her time with this family is almost up, and it will be time for her to move again. She does enjoy being able to see all that she is seeing. She was not granted that luxury in her childhood. She was kept, clean and proper like a porcelain doll.
Roza was caught in the middle of the Mexican Revolution. She was part of an upper-class family, so she was seemingly an enemy of the people.
She had spent two years hopping from family to family, never spending too long in the same place.
She supported the rebellion, although it seemed they were against her. Why should most struggle to get by while a few never have to worry where their next meal was going to come from? If they could work together, could they not thrive?
Still, Roza was on the run.
