Death Proof (2007)
A stuntman, no longer recognized from his former fame, finds a new way to have a good time with a modern gal, but what happens when he messes with the wrong group of girls.
The film is a perfect replica of a 70s Grindhouse style, complete with all the fun adult shlock, suspenseful thrills, and crazy car carnage that anyone could ask for. For what Quentin Tarantino considers one of his worst films, he did an excellent job recreating the schlocky but rousing movies that grindhouses would show back in the day. The only con I would say the movie has is that the dialogue gets a little stale at points, and it especially shines a light on Tarantino's interpretation of girl talk. The performance by Kurt Russell as Mike the stuntman was impelling and truly made the character feel as grimy as his crimes. Of course, if we are on the subject of performances, I can’t forget my favorite girl, Tracie Thoms. She did a great job with the character Kim and made her feel like an actual woman, not some caricature of a blow-up doll that has the strength of a pro wrestler. Kim is just a stunt gal who wanted to have some fun with friends and didn’t expect to have the good times ruined by some guy trying to get his own thrills, and she doesn’t just let him get away with it using the skills as a stunt woman and her assertive nature. Of course, this wouldn’t be a Tarantino film if it wasn't for the well-known foot fetish, with the movie having 2:55 minutes of girls showing their dogs on screen, which gave me flashbacks to clicking on the DeviantArt website for the first time. To end off this review, I will leave you fleshies with my favorite quote
“I’m the horniest motherfucka on the road!”
