AHHHHH FIRST ASK THANK YOU ANON! Gosh my favourite covers. I love the anon already make the question a plural. Top 5 Doctor Doom covers: 1. Fantastic Four #258 by John Byrne This is definitely my favourite cover of all time, why? Because Doom literally was seen RIPPING off the page, revealing the first interior page. If you have the solid book, it actually lines up. So technically you can almost say this is the very first panel! If this isn't the coolest cover, then I don't know what is.

2. Gwenpool #21 Lenticular Variant - FF200 Homage by David Nakayama , Jack Kirby

This is kindaaaaa cheating since it is 2 covers in 1. Need I to explain more? It is quite difficult to capture the lenticular effect, especially with the camera glare. (Apologises, but I think a still image does not do this cover justice.) It is a lenticular variant where you can see when the cover image changes depending on what angle you looked at it. And in one angle you can see Reed Richards fighting IIM!Victor von Doom. (If they have done this with Maker vs IIM, Alex Maleev's Infamous Iron Man #8 cover, I would be screaming so hard)

3. Fantastic Four #238 by John Byrne Back in the 80's, most comic covers were drawn related to the story, whereas modern comics usually have a selection of variants that features characters that are not in the story at all (But cool covers arts!). So published in 1982, this cover is definitely a controversy bait. You will be thinking, is he really in there? Is he really not? Is this a bait? (Spoiler: Yes, he is really not in the comic)

4. The Death of Doctor Doom #3 (Variant) - In-Hyuk Lee

THIS COVER IS ANOTHER BAIT. If you haven't read Death of Doctor Strange (DODS) , you really should. This cover provided a great visual for Doctor Doom's expression when he found out Strange is dead. His stern posture looking over Stephen's body. The iron throne that hugely resembles the GOT is an absolutely nice touch for my favourite king. This is the story I need.

5. Infamous Iron man #1 - Hip Hop variant by Anthony Piper My favourite redemption arc for Doctor Doom - Bendis' Infamous Iron man. And this cover, oh boy. Not only we get to see Iron Man in different models being put in their place and serving Victor von Doom on a throne. This is a really cool homage to Victor von Doom and Tony Stark's adventures. First, we have the classic Iron man serving his faceplate. Judging by the armour round curves around the hip, I think that should be the Iron Man Model 4. ( Shellheads, please spare me if I am wrong) Model 4 is one of the longest Iron man models Tony has worn over the years. This armour was worn by Tony Stark in one of the earliest solo encounter with Doctor Doom in Iron Man #149, first issue of the The Camelot Trilogy or aka DoomQuest.

Then in the middle we have Model 09 - that was worn during Victor little Camelot quest with Tony Stark in Iron Man : Legacy of Doom, holding his heart arc reactor for Victor.

Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is 4 issues little mini adventure, where Tony and Victor is on the hunt for a magical sword and scabbard featuring Victor in sexy black robes.

On the leftmost, we have the Mark 51 Model Prime (which is the exact same armor model Victor is going to take and wore as Infamous Iron Man) holding a measuring tape for Victor. A great foreshadowing to show what's entail in the future. The Iron Man's are literally giving Victor their identities. Which is essentially the story line of Victor taking over Iron Man's mantle, emerging as Infamous Iron man in the chrome plated Mark 51 when the world thought Tony Stark was dead. Long live Von Doom indeed.

Top 5 really don't do my love justice. I still have many honourable mentions such as the Action Figure Variants and some of the classic covers over the years.... Maybe I would review it and make a 2nd post on honourable mentions?

Doom and his Magic - The Thing #5 & Strange #1 Inspired Analysis [Part 2/2]

(Avengers: Children Crusader #4 (2011))

Teleportation spell:

(Invincible Iron Man Vol 3 #2 (2015))

Summon shielding ward from various elder god including Vishanti from any mental/psychic attacks:

During world war hate (Loki – Agent of Asgard #6 (2014))

Energy projection spell:

Also his specialty defence and shielding spell , demonstrated in his fight against Morgan Le Fay in Dark Avengers #2 (2009)

To the point where he can cast defensive spells without any chants at all: Invincible Iron Man Vol 3 #2 (2015)

Or his new and more experienced casting in the deity spells : Such as Crimson band of the Cyttorak aka Doctor Strange's favourite spell

Comparing Triumph and Torment (1989) to Savage Avenger #8 (2020) - Back when they first met, Victor cast the same spell on Strange and Stephen easily deflected the spell back to Victor. However, in the most recent encounter, Stephen was restrained. And the craziest thing? That is a doombot. Victor has perfected the art of technomagic and was able to make his robot to cast a spell like him. There is so so much more (I’d love to post more examples, but I am hitting the image limits again) Victor von Doom truly has grown a lot during the decades in terms of sorcery. He won the title of being the second last standing sorcerer in the Sorcerer Supreme tournament all these years ago without any proper sorcerer training. Now imagine, him with the newfound knowledge, artifacts that he has collected over the years, plus most importantly, the grief to the death of his only friend. He is a force of reckoning and he will be feeling even more entitled to take the mantle to protect and preserve Strange’s legacy since he last challenged Doctor Vodoo for the title of Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Voodoo: Avenger of the Supernatural (2009)

I am going to say, no Wong, Doctor Doom is going to be a problem especially when he asked to speak to the manager – I meant Vishanti to host another tournament.

Doom and his Magic - The Thing #5 & Strange #1 Inspired Analysis [Part 1/2]

To this week's Strange #1 (if you haven't, please go read it now and submit yourself to the new sorceress supreme please please PLEASE), it feature my favourite King Victor von Doom knocking on the Sanctum's door asking for the Sorcerer Supreme title:

I will be posting a detailed review regarding Strange and his significant relationship with Stephen Strange leading to today's issue on a separate post. But I have to use this precious opportunity to show case Victor von Doom's magical origin! Victor von Doom has always been established as a scientist and sorcerer (also second-best in all possibly field you can think of therefore making him the greatest meance and dangerous supervillain of all time) ! You see, all the way back in the first issue of The Fantastic Four # 5

And his full origin story in FF Annual #2 which included:

- He learnt his magic from his mother, Cynthia Von Doom via a magical trunk of belongings

- That he furthered his art with the hidden cult of Tibetian monks who specialised in Techno-Magic and forged his iconic mask and armour with magic.

Then

- How he bargained and fought demons from hell for his mother's soul every midsommar in Marvel Super Heroes #20 (1969)

Also the infamous Camelot trilogy where Victor von Doom went to the past to look for arcane magic and help to free his mother featured in Iron Man: #149 - 150:

- He has various magical teachers, including Caglistro who wrote the legendary tome of Elderich knowledge: The Book of Cagliostro (who is also a real Italian magician / occult artist dated back in the 18th century)

- Morgan Le Fay- A power sorceresses that has been confirmed to teach Victor necromancy, and is proficient in various energy blast magic, time and reality-warping magic & illusions :

(From Dark Avengers #2 (2009) ) - To Doctor Strange: Where he was trained under Doctor Strange for 6 weeks illustrated in the 1989 graphic novel, Triumph and Torment

Where he learnt various spells such as the Shield of the Seraphim From analysing Stephen's movements during the sorcerer supreme tournament

Fun fact: Triumph and Torment is a story that has been discussed for years to come, in order to bridge the gap of Victor von Doom's mostly ignored magical background since Fantastic Four #5. This graphic novel idea has been pitched since 1982, and has been delayed for many years to come in order to find the perfect artist and time to be published so it can integrate in both Fantastic Four & Doctor Strange's comic book timeline. It really is a great and one of the best Doctor Doom's (& Doctor Strange's) story. In here, we have Doctor Doom teaming up with Doctor Strange going to hell together. They fought Mephisto and released his mom's soul. Victor von Doom has been always trying to find other sorcerers, learning magic, collecting artefacts behind the scenes. There's a lot of things to note, such as: - Early on, Victor's arcane knowledge is mainly Earthly magic or aka Gaea's magic which he learnt from his mother's trunk of trinkets.

- To being Earth's second most qualified sorcerer who comes close to winning the Sorcerer Supreme title in the tournament

Victor Von Doom - Over the Years [Part 0/?]

This is possibly just a small starting post of a possibly year-long project. Victor von Doom, just like any other Marvel character has a long publication history, his character has changed over the years with various events cough Valeria cough, secret war. I always want to do a detailed analysis of Victor's personality under different pens in (and have an excuse to re-read every single appearance of my green gremlin ) Of course, there would be problematic portrayals and my analysis will be biased with my own personal preference in seeing Victor as this tragic cunning, yet honourable anti-hero who is struggling with his past trauma and self-loath. He is a complicated character and I really hope I could do him justice by showing each writer's interpretation of him over time. But let's go-

Doctor Doom’s Sanctum Sanctorum?

You thought Doctor Strange is the only person who has the Sanctum Sanctorum? - Doctor Doom’s has one too.  The term, Sanctum Sanctorum, means the holy place in Latin so it is not limited to any sorcerers. 

(Astonishing Tales - #2 (1970) )  There are always catacombs and the Fantastic Four + rebels and even he himself, have used it to infiltrate inside the castle multiple times.  Edited:  Courtesy to a fellow Doctor: Did you know: Doctor Doom also calls his lab Sanctum Sanctorum?

Fantastic Four (1961) #5 vs Iron Man (2020) #17 - Iron man versus Doctor Doom

Since this is the first post of the blog - What’s better to show off with - Victor Von Doom’s very first appearance Fantastic Four (1961) #5 to the most recent comic appearance in Cantwell’s Iron man (2020) #17!  And their first dialogue before engaging in the fight! 

Now Victor von Doom got updated with a better sense of humour.  Oh dear. I cannot even remember the jester outfit that he first appeared in...  And how he has engaged in the fight by using his infamous finger blaster which I am certain he has updated it to a toxic neuron gas releaser on in his index finger (which is mentioned in the novels), the Hypno-ray, or simply removed it since it is way too cliche  Fighting style wise? He was swinging punches and goes for the physical grabble even though he was well versed with the dark arts and magic. 

Though using Victor’s very first appearance (against the Fantastic Four) is quite unfair.  But what about Victor’s first official fight against Tony Stark?  Funny enough, even though Doom has engaged with the Avengers way back in Avenger #25, but Tony hasn’t joined the team yet! I would say their earliest comic interaction is Avengers #155 (1977) during the complicated Atlantis throne plot of Attuma trying to get his throne back from Namor. However Namor wasn’t home in the Hydrobase, but the doctor is in! So the collared Avengers ended up fighting Doctor Doom! 

Still going for the physical grabble vs more comfortable in using magic today: 

Earlier on Victor von Doom has always been quite physical with his fights (Fun fact: he has been trained by various martial artists/ masters with reflexes that rivals Daredevil’s!) and definitely has viewed science over sorcery. Though this view has drastically changed since his fall as infamous iron man. I see that in recent runs (post-2018 to 2022), Victor has been quite busy prepping himself with a lot of magic in preparation for the upcoming events? Reckoning war?!? But hey.  At least decades ago:

(Spoiler alert: No, he did not kill Tony Stark. Tony is still alive in that armour, simply unconscious which Victor prisoned and then later released him from the mind-controlling collar.)  Today:
