“Is it bad that I’m already excited for Thanksgiving? There are a ton of recipes that I’m dying to try out.” Linda loved baking, a hobby she’d picked up a long time ago and something that distracted her from life when she needed an escape. In the past, she’d done it whenever she felt stressed, but that wasn’t really the case anymore now. Sure, the brunette still did it, but baking had become so much more to her now and she missed having Thanksgiving with family and friends. This would be her very first one after returning to Central City and guilty, she was ever so excited for it.
( @ccfstarter )
“Not at all! Actually, I am too. Back home it wasn’t something we really celebrated, but the last few years I’ve gotten to here, and it’s been really nice. Though I have to admit I’m still not much of a cook. As badly as I would like to be able to bake a pie or something for it, I feel like I would be better off left to just eat the food instead. And I think the kitchen might feel the same way.” She laughed warmly as she reflected on her past attempts to cook. “If you need a taste-tester though, I’ll happily help.”

Keeping Amaya calm was Mick’s top priority now, and luckily it seemed to be working well enough. “Maybe not, but think of that as a backup plan. Bet we find them quickly here anyways.” As they made their way to the laundry room first, Amaya began to hunt for the kittens as Mick checked closer to the machines themselves. “Course not,” he replied as she expressed a question of whether she tended to over-worry about things, and Mick turned back to look towards her. “It doesn’t make you a buzzkill to put others first, or to want to protect those closest to you. And I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.”
“I hope so. You don’t think they would actually get into one of the machines, do you? I know some of us have a tendency to leave the doors open.” No luck with any of the linens had Amaya turning around to face Mick again, her dark eyes watching his features as he answered the question. She could tell he was being sincere. “Thank you. I guess I just-- I don’t know. Sometimes I worry that maybe I lost a bit of that spark. Or that I’ve weakened or something. But that’s silly, right? I mean, I could still kick your ass if I wanted to.” She was obviously joking, and her lips curled into a soft smirk. “I just wanted to be sure. You know you’re at the top of that list, right?” Amaya inched onto her tip-toes to place a chaste kiss on the corner of Mick’s mouth. As she did so, she heard a small mewl coming from somewhere in the room. “That’s mini-Mick!” Was it weird that she could tell their mewls apart? “They’re around here somewhere!”
auroraxjett:
from what rory gathered, amaya was from another place – though she hadn’t know the extent of the difference between here and there. amaya, like many other vigilantes, had been dedicated to a cause, and the journey of a hero could be a lonely one. rory was lucky she’d had the chance to find herself before she found conduit, and even then she struggled to reconcile her lives into a functioning unite.
“i don’t know if this will help but…i believe that every person you meets serves a purpose for you. whether it’s to help you, hurt you, love you, teach you something you need to know…” her shoulders lifted into a sustained shrug, “i’ve never thought about the future. and thinking about the past makes it impossible to live in the now. so i think maybe the best thing you can do is let go of all that until you have to deal with it?” as she said it, rory realized this was not as good an advice as she thought it might be - if anything it sounded a little juvenile.
“that’s actually bad advice. let me buy you a coffee instead.”
Even in such a solemn setting as a hospital, Amaya couldn’t held but chuckle. Rory was genuinely trying to help her out, and maybe she had. Whether the advice was right or not, no one knew. She had listened though and offered a solid solution. And her belief of why certain people were brought into one’s life gave Amaya hope and clarity. “I don’t think it’s bad at all. I mean, I won’t turn down us grabbing a coffee, if you’d like. But I actually think you may be on to something. Thank you, Rory.”
Part of what had made this whole journey terrifying and confusing was that although Amaya still held dear many of the same beliefs and tenacity, she sometimes worried that she’d grown too soft. Maybe though, that just meant she had grown up. “I probably should live in the moment more,” Amaya admitted, breaking into a soft smile. And that thing about people being in your life for a reason? I like the sound of that very much.”
medicinexforxthexsoul:
Trepidation? Fatigue? Her newest patient, Amaya, entered, and immediately Perenna picked up on the woman’s feelings. “Nightmares can be rooted in many things, but it’s common to be rooted in fear of the future, or memories of the past. Are there any distinguishing points that recur in these dreams? Maybe we can start there.” She jotted down a few quick notes before looking back up. “I may have an exercise that could help, if you’re open to it.”
Amaya considered the question carefully. Unfortunately, she wasn’t sure just how helpful these sessions would be if she had to remain vague about some things. She would try her best though. “I suppose it could be both. For a long time they were more in the past-- about the loss of love,” she admitted quietly. “Those seemed to have mostly gone away though, now that I fell for someone else. I think it’s more the future I’m worried about,” she continued. “Like if I had to choose between family or other opportunities.” Amaya tried to smile slightly as she nodded. “Sure. We can try.”
destinyxangel:
She nodded because Amaya was right - Angel had indeed been trying to cover her tracks and the only alibi that she was able to come up with in the moment had been to hug the other. It put her mind at ease even more when Amaya gave her a reassuring smile, feeling the tension leaving her shoulders. The last thing that the metahuman wanted to do was upset other people, especially since that’s what she’d been doing prior to her return to Star City. She’d let everybody in her life down and her family thought that she was dead because the blonde knew that there was no way back to them. This was her life now, her second chance. She’d had to give her old one up, including all of the people that had been in it. “That’d be nice.” Angel mumbled softly, biting the inside of her lip for a moment. She figured she’d start off by introducing herself before delving into her entire life story since it was a long and complex one. “I’m Angel, by the way.”
Call it her animal instincts, but Amaya had always been good at reading people. The blonde hadn’t denied her assumption, but rather, seemed to have at least eased in demeanor; if only a little. “It’s no problem. Have you eaten anything? I can share mine if you’d like-- I’m honestly not that hungry. So long as I have enough to take back to my boyfriend, all is good.” Amaya smiled at the name; it was lovely, just as she would have imagined. She didn’t know Angel’s story, but she had an inkling there was much to it. “It’s nice to meet you, officially. I’m Amaya. So, Angel, are you in danger, or is there just someone you don’t want to run in to?”

He was happy that he could reel her back in as she spiralled, and almost as quickly Amaya was back to the cool and collected one that Mick knew and loved. Her instincts to protect those she cared about were almost primal in a way. “Could be, any of ‘em could have just wanted some time alone with them. This whole place is full of animal lovers.” He just gave a little nod with his smile to answer her thanks, at once letting her know it wasn’t necessary. Their fingers soon entwined, “Well thanks, as long as you think so that’s all that matters.” Being pulled up and out of their shared quarters, “Sounds like the best place to start with then. They love to curl up in Pretty’s sweatshirts.”
“That’s true. between all of us those little kittens sure do get a lot of love. I suppose I could have sent a message between everyone, but I figured they might not count this as an emergency.” Amaya relaxed more at the sight of Mick’s smile, her grasp of his hand soft, but earnest. “That’s true. I may need to ask what kind of cologne he uses or something. Maybe that will attract them at a moment’s notice.” Amaya chuckled lightly as she lead way to where they all did laundry on the ship. “I mean, this place is full of soft blankets and towels. I wouldn’t put it past them to be hiding in one.” Letting go of his hand, Amaya began carefully rifling through anything cozy she could find in the linens. “Do you think I worry too much?” She asked, knowing Mick would be up front and honest with her. “Like, does it make me a buzzkill?”
destinyxangel:
Angel felt bad about going in for a hug, just to disguise herself from someone that she was trying to avoid. This woman didn’t even know her and the blonde may have just entirely freaked her out - way to make friends, right? As Amaya let her know that the coast was clear, a large breath of relief left her while pulling back. Luckily, it had been a stranger that had entered the building and not the husband she was running from. ”Sorry. That was really inappropriate. Thank you though. I didn’t mean to spook you, so I hope you’re not freaked out or mad.”
Although Amaya had been taken aback by the gesture, she was far from bothered from it. It wasn’t as if the woman was trying to cop a feel or something. The apology even drew a small laugh from her. “It’s alright. I could tell you were just trying to cover your tracks. It would be different if I felt that you had ill intentions.” As Amaya’s name was called aloud, she stepped to the counter to grab her bag of food, which was already paid for. “You’re welcome. I’m really not either,” she promised sincerely. Hopefully the soft smile that danced upon her lips was reassuring. “Now, how about I escort you and maybe you can fill me in on who you’re hiding from?”
auroraxjett:
rory’s step faltered as she turned her head to amaya, “well, maybe i can help. all this stuff aside, i’m still a nurse. and i’ve had every sleep problem in the book.” rory invitingly gestured for amaya to open up to her.
“Really? I hate to bother you with my problems. I just keep having dreams that sometimes make me wonder if I should be here.” That sounded dark. Amaya was quick to explain. “I mean, I’m here to keep things running the course, but sometimes I get homesick and miss my family. However, I also...” she paused as her cheeks burned pink. “Am in love with someone here. I just wonder sometimes what’s going to happen when my work is done? Do I stay here, or do I go back? It just keeps me up. A lot.” She hadn’t meant to unload so much, but it felt good to let it out to someone.
heatwavewashere:
Ever the yin to Mick’s out-of-control yang, seeing Amaya spin out left Mick wanting to be her comfort zone right now. Pulling her close it seemed to work a little bit, and as she dabbed his cheek with a kiss in response she admitted he might be right about the situation, at least to methodically go about trying to find the kittens. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anybody else you said I was right,” he offered a grin. “They can’t have gotten that far, and if anybody else saw them they’d make sure they didn’t get into any trouble.” Slowly she rose to her feet and offered him her hand. Reaching out to take it, Mick got up too. “You got it, babe.”
It wasn’t often that Amaya didn’t keep her calm demeanor. Mostly when she was worried about someone-- whether it be Mick, a fellow teammate, or family. This time, the latter. It probably didn’t help that she hadn’t been sleeping well lately, which left her a little more unbalanced than usual. She was so grateful to have Mick though; he grounded her in a way no one else could do. “Maybe someone does have them.” She paused, her expression soft. “You’re the best. Thank you.” As he joined hands with hers, Amaya threaded their fingers together. “I don’t care if you tell anyone. I mean, you do have your moments.” Cheekily, she grinned at Mick, squeezing his hand as she pulled him out of the room. “You don’t think they’d be in the laundry room, do you? I actually didn’t check there.”
auroraxjett:
“thank you.” rory nodded deeply - it meant a lot to her, to be heard. especially now when she felt like she didn’t deserve it, “i know you want to be out there, helping. you don’t need to stick with me. why were you in the hospital, anyways? you’re not hurt, right?”
“You’re welcome. Well, I want to help whomever needs it. That includes you. Even so, I want to make sure you’re okay.” Amaya was a devoted friend; whether she’d known the person an hour, or for years. “No, I’m alright,” she promised sincerely. “I’ve just been struggling with sleeping lately, and they wanted to run some tests on me.”
destinyxangel:
Angel felt more at ease as the other reacted positively to her barging in here and disturbing her - Amaya being kind about the situation calmed her senses. “That’d be nice, thank you.” she nodded her head, her mouth opening once again to speak up a second time, but the blonde was interrupted by the door opening behind her. Angel panicked right then and there, not sure if her husband was the one who had walked in, maybe following her inside. All she knew was that he couldn’t see her and know she was alive - she wouldn’t know what to do if that happened. So instead, she moved forward and wrapped her arms around Amaya as if she knew the other and was embracing a friend - only to disguise herself and keep her face hidden from her husband if he was indeed here, right behind her.
It was a dangerous city, where a group was always safer than solo. If it weren’t for Amaya’s abilities, she wouldn’t be traveling by herself, that’s for sure. “You’re welcome, of course.” As the blonde seemed ready to divulge more information, the sound of the door rattling open made her jumpy-- and at first, Amaya couldn’t figure out why she’d been enveloped in a hug. She was about to question it, but could sense the anxiety and feel the quaking within the stranger. Then it became clear that it was indeed someone she was hiding from. Amaya immediately returned the embrace, her voice a low murmur. “I don’t know who you’re hiding from, or why, but it’s okay.” Amaya smiled at the person walking in. It was a redheaded woman, who quickly bounced up to the counter. “I think you’re in the clear.”
medicinexforxthexsoul:
Perenna sat in her armchair, notepad and pen settled on her lap as her newest client sat across from her. “Welcome,” she greeted calmly, a gentle smile offered to the individual. There was an emotion that filled the room as they entered, though she couldn’t quite place it. “What brings you in today?”
@ccfstarter
Amaya had never been to a therapist, not once. Lately however, she had been experiencing nightmares quite often. Not every night, but enough to keep her from getting much rest. Dr. Williams-Jacoba had been suggested to her as someone to visit, to get to the root of the problem. The issue was, Amaya couldn’t reveal to just anyone about what she was doing here in the first place. Or about her powers. “Thank you,” Amaya replied, her lips curving into a soft smile. “I’ve not been sleeping well lately. I keep having nightmares and I’m not sure how to move past them.”
drcaitlinxsnow:
“Amaya,” her tone softer then before as not to jolt the young woman from the sleepy form. “You’re safe and in Star Labs with me, Dr. Snow.” Caitlin gently ran her hand along her forearm before her poised fingers settled along her wrist. The pounding beat of her heart radiated from the delicate pulse point that brought relief to the onlooking physician. “Unfortunately, yes, but Barry is out in the field picking up where you left off. You did great but I need you to rest for a moment.”
A wave of calm washed over her upon realizing she was under the care of Dr. Snow. There was no one she trusted more when it came to medicine. Amaya’s breathing slowed - steadied - as she locked eyes with Caitlin. She nodded gently, though the motion sent a flurry of pain radiating through her head. Normally she would fight on this, and insist on helping Barry. Amaya knew if anyone could catch him though, it was The Flash. At the moment, anyhow, she hurt too much to move. “Okay,” Amaya murmured, her voice weak. “But everything is okay, right?”
heatwavewashere:
Mick’s steady, even-keel approach he hoped would keep Amaya calm; usually her nerves in a crisis were impeccable on their own, but when it came to the protective nature of those closest to her he also knew she might be prone to panic. Rubbing her back again, Mick listened as she listed off the places she’d checked already. “Okay then, in that case maybe we try some of the less likely places? Haircut’s lab, for instance. And if still no luck, we get everyone involved in the search.” Leaning his shoulder against hers, Mick’s arm squeezed tighter around his girlfriend. “I know you do, but trust me. It’ll be okay.”
It still baffled Amaya daily just how warm and soft Mick could be around her. So much different than the brash hothead she’d originally met. Though typically calm, he was the anchor that grounded her when she needed it. His arm secured around her had Amaya huddling closer, her lips grazing his cheek in the motion. “I do trust you, and you’re right. They must be around here somewhere. The lab sounds like a good start. I just hope they haven’t gotten into too much trouble.” Reluctantly Amaya untangled from his grip, but as she got to her feet, her hand reached for Mick’s. Her expression was delicate, but pleading. “Come with?”
azzie-the-angel:
Az looked down at the soot on his hands, rubbing his fingers together with a slightly disgruntled expression. “I resigned my post of guardian angel a long time ago and I have no desire to take it up again.” he wiped the dirt off on his jeans. “There will always be evil in the world, there’s no way to stop it for good. Sorry to disappoint.”
“Can’t say that I blame you,” Amaya countered with a nod. While she was no guardian per-say, she did know what it meant to try and protect people. That was the whole reason she’d been gifted her totem in the first place. She couldn’t imagine how much pressure he had been under. Still, she refused to give up her ability. Someone had to do it. “I know,” she responded softly, a heavy sadness in her tone. “But it doesn’t hurt to try, right?”
