Sunset in Japan
November 6, 2014
Biked to work in 9 minutes, a minute more than it usually takes me. I think it was the rain. I was happy because I was able to wear my new pink puffy raincoat. This is what my work day looked like:
7:50AM Morning meeting. Made a piping hot mocha. Copied and compiled papers for the 3rd year’s upcoming speech contest. 1st period (good kids). 2nd period more copying, compiling, and grading. Remembered the mocha I made and made it iced. 3rd and 4th period had two third year classes (also good kids who laughed at the way I said Jiro). Prepped the school lunches with the secretary, vice principal, and another teacher. Today’s menu was salmon, soup, and rice. Spent the last few periods being upset about something personal and prepping for Friday’s lessons. Cleaned a bit. Attempted to redo my taxes since they were lost in the mail but didn’t have time. Stayed after school to help some students finish their project. Went home around 5:00PM. Ate dinner. Biked to Cainz Home, a nearby super store, and picked up some candy. Biked to the library and taught English Circle with another ALT. It was a smaller group because of the rain, but we had some good discussions. We spent over half the class on one question: “What is the most unforgivable thing someone could do?” Got home a little before 9:00PM. Lay in bed angry about that thing I mentioned.
Previous highlights: Finished Desperate Housewives Season 3, went to a Halloween Party Tuesday and actually cooked for other people (grilled cheese and penne), and went running around town yesterday evening.
Upcoming highlights: C’s birthday, Tokyo trip, Makuhari trip, Funabashi trip, and a friend’s housewarming party this month. ALT and English Circle Christmas Parties and home next month.
Major Disappointments: Pumpkin Kit-Kats are no longer available.
Grown-ups take their trends seriously and call it life.
Fuck that sun, moon, and stars shit. When it comes to showing my girlfriend love, I generally stick to the following:
I love you. I appreciate you. I want you. I miss you.
People be tacky.
I can't believe that in less than two years, I've taught at one American middle school, two Junior high schools, seven elementary schools, and one kindergarten.
Note to Self
I think the time has come to purge my wardrobe. I live in a town where generic neon crocs and Engrish t-shirts ("Bang Bang us good time" for example) are worn throughout the year. Yesterday, I wore an ill-fitting combo of sweat pants and a nice blouse to the grocery store. I'm no fashion expert, but I'd like to try to be a little more thoughtful when it comes to my outfits. Good taste, Leilani. Try to recover some of it.
"Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60s. Or maybe I was just a girl… interrupted."
Girl, Interrupted; 1999, directed by James Mangold.
There is nothing more damaging to a relationship than one's own pride.

Does Mary Poppins have an orgasm? Does she go to the bathroom? I assure you, she does.

Think wonderful things. Think wonderful things. Even when you're mad. Even when you're sad.
What’s Your Book Shelfie Style?
Ohhhh…height just looks so satisfying
Mine will always be divided into genre and then by the author's last name
Too much value and self-worth is placed on the things you can take off at night. Invest in more. Invest in your talents. Invest in education - not school necessarily - but books and experiences.
It's important to remind yourself not to get so upset when people don't understand you, because sometimes you don't even understand yourself.
The fewer words the better.
This year, I will make more friends in the community. I forgot how important that is.
I will also limit my phone use and be more productive.
XO
