I've decided to change up my fortnightly translation posts for a bit. In the next few posts i'll be focusing on Vai Maħat, another one of my languages and using the Litany Against Fear to do so. I will likely be returning to Vauthi though once I have finished the Litany.

Vai Maħat is written in an alphabet that is heavily inspired by cuneiform and the Cypriot Syllabary. I have made a font for it, but the kerning is still a work in progress.

As vauthi lacks a grammatical progressive aspect it utilises a lexical aspect. It does this with the adverb 'ma'ehin' which roughly translates to 'now' or 'currently.' Because of this the above could also be translated as 'the dragon is burning the camp.' I just chose to use the above translation as I feel it conveys a sense of urgency the original has.

I am also exploring using some diacritics to simplify the romanisation. I have some to replace the dipgraphs but I'm not going to roll those out yet.

When I write I sometimes like to translate dialogue into the conlang the characters would be speaking in. The above is an example of that.

The second sentence is obviously not a very direct translation, but I feel it evokes the vibe of how the character would be speaking better.

Amme means stitch when it acts as a noun. When it acts as a verb it has a few meanings. It can mean the general act of sewing, but also to make somethings by means of sewing. I find the translation of 'sewing together' works well for this second meaning.
