"Dusk is just an illusion because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are there cannot be one without the other yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel I remember wondering to be always together yet forever apart?" -- Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook (at Sands SM by the Bay)

It's just ignorance, not foolishness, if you don't know. But when you're given the opportunity to know, yet you choose not to know, then that's foolishness.

New Breed of Bulldogs to Rise in UAAP 79
New Breed of Bulldogs to Rise in UAAP 79 By: Janzene Gonzales A new breed of Bulldogs are on the rise after the departure of several key players including Point Guard Gelo Alolino, Shooting Guard Pao Javelona and Power Forward Kyle Neypes. "Half of the team are rookies but it's a mix of transferees and rookies fresh from high school," said NU head coach Eric Altamirano. Leading the pack are Center Alfred Aroga, Shooting Guard Jayjay Alejandro and Point Guard Rev Diputado together with the rookies, Matt Salem, Matthew Aquino, JV Gallego and Joshua Sinclair. Despite this scenario, coach Altamirano believes that his team is more competitive; having a good mixture of old and new players. National U is well-known for their tight defense but according to coach Eric, he wants to add something new to the system where the team's offense would concentrate on and maximize everyone's strengths. "It's going to be a work in progress but I'm confident that they will all contribute," Altamirano said. The NU Bulldogs will start their UAAP campaign against the UE Red Warriors this Wednesday, September 7, 2PM, at the Mall of Asia Arena. Photo: Julius Domondon

UAAP LXXIX: A Season of Changes By: Janzene Gonzales & Alexa Famisan The University of Santo Tomas (UST), this season’s UAAP host, announced last Tuesday, August 30, during the pre-tournament press conference held at Novotel in Cubao, Quezon City, that there were major changes made to be felt by all as the league opens. Acoording to Fr. Ermito De Sagon O.P, President of the UAAP Board, the league will do away from the thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals given to teams who have swept the elimination round. However, the stepladder format will still be used in the semifinals – the winner of the rubber match between the fourth and third seed will face the second seed with twice-to-beat advantage. The thrice-to-beat advantage took effect in season 71 when the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors failed to win the basketball title during the previous season against De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers after a 14-0 sweep in the eliminations. The UAAP also wants school hymns to be sung before the start of the official warmups. "We noticed that it may not be the best time [at the end of each games] to sing the hymns because everybody is tired,” said De Sagon. Traditionally, the winning team always have the privilege to sing the hymn first during endgames. But this time, it will always start with the team wearing light uniform. De Sagon added that it will be the school’s prerogative whether or not to sing their school hymn at the end of each games – being a long-live UAAP tradition. Moreover, in this year's season of UAAP, the athletes will be more focused in singing the hymn solemnly. Unlike what usually happened the past seasons where players don't evidently show focus upon singing hymns in the post-match. Photo: Julius Domondon
