L, it’s a pleasure. Your reputation precedes you. I've heard from my father that you were taking on the Kira case and I couldn't help but be a little curious. I’d be interested to hear how you approach complex cases..what principles guide your reasoning?
-@thelightyagami
… Ah. Light Yagami . Son of Soichiro Yagami … the pleasure is all mine .
[ he flashes an … unsettling smile . it’s … crooked, and the dark bags circling his eyes certainly don’t help his case . ]
I suppose my main principle would be … that I am childish .
[ … what ? ]
And I hate to lose . Therefore, I exert myself to ensure my victory over crime .
Though I imagine reducing it to something as simple as ‘childishness’ doesn’t quite capture the full picture. Someone with your reputation must base their conclusions on something far more precise.
Still..hating to lose isn’t necessarily a flaw. In fact, it might be exactly what makes you effective.
I mean with the way the case plays out it only makes sense that I'm a suspect. I can assure you I'm not Kira, if my word means anything that is. From what I can tell you from the investigation my name has been cleared so far.
hi Light! personally question, but have you ever had to have a therapist for something? this can be physical due to an injury, or mental!
No, I've always tried to maintain my mental health and hold myself up to the highest standard. I think it's a great option for people, but I've never personally had to do it. I've also never gotten injured at all.
I need to memorize all of this in a month. Any advice?
Hm I definitely think just staying consistent with the flash cards is the way to go. Memorize them slowly and if you're able, have someone ask you and go over them with you so you're not tempted to look at the answer while trying to remember it. My advice is don't put it off until the last minute because you'll only overwhelm your brain and confuse yourself. This in turn will just cause you to forget most of it anyway and that's why the goal is consistency.
I think it's possible as long as you stay on top of it and don't overwork yourself, and remember to eat well and get good sleep. That's the part that messes most people up.

Due to some personal reflection I'm removing the idea of nsfw asks. I don't feel it fits light as a character and yes I'll answer suggestive ideas but I won't go as in depth as I feel it's not needed.
With the arise of discussions feel free to send in some asks! I love to expand lights character and I think answering some questions, related in universe or not, will help me with that!
Don't mind me but I'm just going around asking, how do you feel about Kira?

oh hey٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
mmm well i guess it depends. i think there are circumstances in which you should use the death note, so to a degree i guess i understand him. i’ve described myself as feeling like matsuda in this regard :3
this is such a fire take...... ive thought about matsuda and the role he plays in dn a lot and, though a lot of the community picks sides (light or L/Near) i believe matsuda is supposed to be how just the normal, sane person would be in a situation like that. stuck in between, constantly thinking over it. he acknowledges both sides, though he leans towards the "good" side, the side thats clean and simple, and that hes encouraged to be on by the people around him. if we were in his position, most of us would react the exact same way. its easy for others to shut out the other side and listen to to their own ideals, but hes stuck in the middle.
for me, my stance on kira is pretty simple: no person alone, by themselves, no matter who they are, should be able to decide the fate of others. but then we look at specific situations, and how the crime rates went down, and have to consider that. if we just used it for certain things, would it be better? there are some situations id absolutely cheer for kira if he used the death note in them. but who gets to decide which situations its used in? some things that are righteous to some are evil to others, that will always be true.
NO DONT HOLY PARAGRAPH URSELF, this was wonderfully put seriously. it’s such an interesting and brain picking tale because it makes you really think about an impossible situation and makes you wonder what would i do if i was given the power of a god?
and i always love to hear what others are thinking :3 thank you for the thought provoking response!
If I may, I would like to add on to some of your points.
One of my biggest problems with Kira is that it address the symptoms, not the issues. There is never the question of why does crime happen?
I'll mostly be looking at this through an American and Mexican American lense as that is what I can talk on. Crime, in most cases, is symptom of larger systemic issues. Racism and class inequality being the biggest ones.
When people are given no other alternatives to better their lives and are deprived of the fudamental things they need to live, it is a damned if you do, damned if you dont.
There have been multiple recorded instances of people commiting or attempting to commit crimes, because they would rather be put into shadow slavery than die a slow painful death in poverty.
Do these people really deserve to die for simply wanting to live? If it is murder to kill someone would it not be murder to let yourself die?
As minority groups are the ones to be put into these situations most often, not really do to fault of their own in most instances, would this type of killing not further lead to even more oppression? Look at the crack epidemic and how that devestated African American communities. Now imagine if you killed all those in jail aswell. Not to mention the already the high amounts of incarceration due to racial factors.
It almost turns into a "sins of the father" esc scenerio. Punishing those who did nothing wrong purely via association, by it intentional or otherwise.
Okay, I yapped a lot, but I still have so much to say!! Again, loved the points yall made :)
@thelightyagami, @aty-chii Would love to hear yall's thoughts on this aswell!
YES OMG this is one of my main issues with how the death note was used by light. he stated he wanted to rid the world of all people who committed crimes or who were just bad people. initially, he start just by killing people in prison with the exception of those he tested the dn on. Then, he quickly loses that and includes people who oppose him and are actively trying to catch him. Many times it is said Kira's agenda doesnt include killing petty criminals, but we see that Light's agenda does. He kills anyone he can really get away with killing. He even considers killing someone he sees harassing another person for money/bullying them, AND ONLY DOESNT BECAUSE IT WOULD CONNECT THE DEATH TO HIM. Most likely, he wasnt killing petty criminals so he would gain better acceptance, and, when the time came and most people accepted Kira, he would start killing them.
okay heres the point im trying to make lol, he would ABSOLUTELY use the death note on people who commit crimes due to poverty or desperation, and very likely already did. He says he wants to rid the world of "bad people" but this mindset is flat and immature. people who do things like that are not bad people. they are trying to survive. but if you want crime to stop entirely, you'd have to either get rid of those people or find some way to get them out of those situations where they commit those crimes. but the latter was not on his mind.
i think this was a point that was trying to be made in death note, based on how light was portrayed and how the effects of what he did were portrayed. what he did did not make the world a better place. it just scared people who could afford to stop doing crimes into conformity. thats not happiness. and for those who committed crimes to survive, thats hell.
AHH this makes me so happy!!! Okay so Id LOVE to give me thoughts on all this because some amazing points have been made. I'm going to answer this out of character because answering as light wouldn't make as much sense such not only would be he biased (even if he tried to play his answer for the sole purpose of not being caught) but it wouldn't be as accurate. I love light as a character and think his mindset is quite interesting. My biggest thing about the deathnote and how light uses it is that he is only one person. One person cannot solely dictate what is "write" and "wrong" because the world is more complex and then there's so much moral ambiguity and, what ends up happening, more often than not leads to choices being made not out of moral intentions and beliefs but from personal gain. We see this as light starts murdering criminals, sure some of these people committed awful crimes and may have already been sentenced to death, but then you have to ask yourself were all these crimes on the same level? Then as light becomes more lost in his ability's he kills several innocent people and even debates killing his own sister. Sure he doesn't agree with it but he allows himself to make those choices at the end of the day. Light sees himself as a higher being and his morals begin to shift. It's also about perspective, because light comes from a good family, he has a good education and is extremely smart, there's some ideas and views out there he just won't have people of things he's never had to experience.
Anywayy I hope all this makes sense and I really try to take all of this into account when playing light :) this started out for me as a run little talking point to strike up some interactions but I'm so happy to see it become a genuine discussion!
Don't mind me but I'm just going around asking, how do you feel about Kira?

Interesting perspective! Mm you could definitely argue there are definitely people who "deserve it" it's just a matter of should that responsibility fall within one person and what really makes someone worthy to be killed.
Oh hey there's no need to be so formal, just light is alright with me.
i agree with you- it’s truly incredibly difficult to decipher alone if one person should be the sole proprietor of that kind of power. but while i think it’s very very difficult, i don’t think it’s impossible!
absolutely agreeable. i suppose we’ll have to wait and see what Kira does in these following months. i don’t think i asked myself Light, but what do you make of Kira?
& oh that’s okay, no worries at all! my name is paris ☆〜(ゝ。∂)
That's a difficult question. Kira's methods are undeniably extreme. No single person should have the authority to decide who lives and who dies—that much is obvious. But...at the same time.. it’s hard to ignore the impact. Crime rates have dropped, and people seem to feel safer, whether that’s justified or not. I think what concerns me most isn’t just Kira himself, but how quickly people are willing to accept something like this. That kind of influence..it’s dangerous.
Well nice to meet you Paris, that's a beautiful name.
you make some incredibly thought provoking points about the dropping crime rate, as well as about people being so willing to accept something so dangerous- that they don’t understand just because it makes them feel safe. i think some people are so desperate to feel safe, that they’ll fall into a safety net even if the risks and dangers of said net present themselves plainly. our minds are such interesting puzzles!
ah thank you Light! ٩(^u^)۶ that’s so kind of you to say. i’m not very versed in japanese at all- but if i remember correctly the character for your name is moon, right? lovely as well (^ω^)
You put that really well. People tend to prioritize a sense of security, even if they don’t fully understand what it costs them. It’s an interesting contradiction...but also a very human one.
And yes—you’re right. The ‘light’ in my name can be read as ‘moon.’ It's just pronounced and said as light. It’s a bit poetic, I suppose. I’m glad you think so.

Well, I don't mean to sound entitled but in all honestly it comes naturally to me. I will say I make sure to study, eat well, and get at least 8 hours a sleep a night, but other than that school has always been an easy task for me.
