my dash is dead! where'd you guys go?

We're still here we promise! We're both pretty active on our personal blogs, but life has just been hectic for both of us, lately, unfortunately. Tiffany's getting ready to go to University and I'm getting ready to go from Italy to the States for a month before coming back to begin a gap year of travel, so both of us are kind of overwhelmed with stuff and planning for our futures. But we're still here, we promise, stick with us because we love you.

Okay, anon, here it is.

Will be under the "read more"

Open Gimp, click FILE --> Open, and choose what you want as your background.

Add a new TRANSPARENT layer by clicking on the thing that I circled in red.

Insert your text onto the background layer. Make sure your layers are in the same order as mine: TEXT, TRANSPARENT, BACKGROUND

Right click on the TEXT layer and click on ALPHA TO SELECTION. Your text should be the only thing selected.

Go up to SELECT --> GROW.

You can use whatever settings you want, but I have it at 5 px. This determines how big your shadow will be. For a bigger shadow, choose a higher number.

Now use the paint bucket and fill in the TRANSPARENT LAYER with whatever color you want your shadow to be.

Stay on the layer with the "shadow" and go to FILTERS --> BLUR --> GAUSSIAN BLUR

Use whatever settings you want. I have it at 3 px. This determines strong(?) your shadow will be. A higher number will give you a blurry (aka "lighter") edge/shadow.

I hope this made sense! I know my explanation for the numbers for grow and blur were kinda weird, but it's the best I can explain them.

Sure thing, anon. But it won't be until after next week though (sorry). Try poking around gimp until then. I'll get the pictures up as soon as I'm free! And I'll probably post them on my personal blog, just so this one doesn't eventually get clogged up with tutorials.

(gimp anon) what settings do you have to apply shadows to the text? i've been trying to find the perfect balance for my own pictures for a while now

Well... okay.

Right click on the layer that you have the object you want a shadow for and clock "Alpha to selection"

At the menu at the top, click Edit (might be something else) --> Grow --> 1 px (or whatever you want)

Create a new layer

On the new layer, fill selection in with black (or whatever shadow color you want)

Go to filters --> blur --> gaussian blur --> set radius as 5 px (or whatever you want)
