Macrame Knot Collection, #1: The Square Knot
Square knots are pretty great. They're one of the simplest knots to do, and thus they're easy to manipulate and create intricate patterns with. Designs can range from the simplest bracelets shown at the top, to the more complicated bag at the bottom. Square knots can be alternated to form a woven pattern, spiral chain, or just a simple knotted strand. The possibilities are endless!

Awesome Things Made With Rainbow Hemp Cord
I just acquired some rainbow hemp myself. It's a variegated cord with all the rainbow colors. Granted, some of these use separate colored cord to make a rainbow pattern, but it's still pretty damn cool. Let's hope I can make things just as awesome.

I don't really understand this new fad, but they're pretty cute, right? I've never attempted one myself, but it's hard to believe that they're just made out of knots.

Masks can be traced back to the early days of Venice, when citizens celebrated "masquerades," in which they would cover their faces and thus be able to hide their true identities from the general public. Such masquerades led many to participate in scandalous and unlawful behavior, and were eventually banned by the Catholic church. The mask celebrations were brought back as a pre-lent (or Carnival) celebration in 1979. Masks are generally decorated with bright colors, crystals, feathers, and even macrame.

Did you know that macrame began in the 13th century? Arabian rug makers used knots similar to styles today to tie off the ends of their rugs with knotted fringe so they wouldn't fray.
The word "macrame" is actually derived from the Arabic word for "fringe."
