If one more person on this God-forsaken website tells me that my job (college professor at a public masters' institution in the US) is not technically labor, or that I'm a "class traitor" or "petit bourgeois", I'm going to brain someone with a car battery, and the fellow members of my, yaknow, labor union will gladly line up to do the same.

Anything you get a wage for is labor. Teaching, fixing coffee, cleaning, doing medical diagnoses, sex work, programming computers, flipping burgers, driving a truck, checking folks into a hotel, selling art, building a house, screenwriting, arguing a case in court, caring for a group of children - this is all labor; all workers are workers.

It's interesting to me because I have two master's degrees, and I'm a skilled clinician and special education professional. I'm also a direct care professional. My job can't be done from home or at a desk. I can't have a bad day or an off day, because everyone deserves their therapy session. My days are intense, busy, and very demanding. I'm part of the "pink collar" class. I'm not an elite, I'm a public servant.
