As she walked past him, he watched her, biting his bottom lip. His eyes were focused in on her ass as he followed behind her slowly. He was trying to figure out how he got so lucky…and how he could get her to leave some things at his place. He wouldn’t mind opening a drawer and seeing her stuff there.

He looked away from her ass a second before she turned. He flashed her a smile, tipping his head to the side as he walked up to his door and unlocked it.

“You and I both know I’m not capable of just a couple of love bites. But if it’ll make you feel better, I can give you some that aren’t visible.”

Nic waited a few moments before flashing her a grin, bending down and tossing her over his shoulder.

Jo gasped and smacked his back, kicking her feet a bit to show her distaste for the situation. “How dare you!” she laughed. “And I came all the way over here to take care of you too, what a monster!” She couldn’t pretend it wasn’t a little funny, and she appreciated his stature, sure, but it was so undignified. 

And Jo was nothing if not dignified, most of the time. 

At least they were soon safely in his apartment, where no one would see it. “This is so unfair, I’m not even tall enough to grab your ass from here.” she huffs.

“Next building I move into will be taller,” he murmured against her neck. His teeth scraped against her skin and he nipped at her gently. He considered biting her, just to prove a point. Instead, he dragged his lips up to her ear, teeth tugging on her earlobe.

“Should have planned this out better then, hm? Maybe now you’ll leave some things at my place. Because I’m not not going to mark you, Jo.”

When the elevator dinged, he stepped back with a smirk, standing in the doorway.

“Come on, gorgeous.”

“That’s not a door you want to open.” Jo laughed, brushing past him. Truthfully, she was not up for that level of commitment. Claiming any part of Nic’s place, even a drawer to toss some colour correcter and concealer into, felt like too much too soon. It was something for people who were seeing each other. 

“Besides, I already had one walk of shame today.” she went on, turning to give him a grin. “I think I can handle a couple of love bites.” She would probably bend her rules enough to steal some of his clothes in the morning, though. She’d be swimming in them, but it was better than the over the top outfit she’d chosen for the fight.

Leticia wished she could shift her position to get a better look but she knew that she needed to stay out of sight. They were already stopped and if the mages thought that there were people being smuggled out, they would likely be sent back. And she didn’t want to think about what would happen to the woman if they were caught. So she stayed where she was and prayed that they would get through.

She held her breath, fighting the urge to groan when money was offered. It shouldn’t have surprised her. It seemed to be the way things worked here, at least sometimes. It appalled her and made her miss home. Not that money wasn’t exchanged in Rivain. But it was home, which made it different.

She heard someone say, “let them go” and she nearly sighed in relief. She would get out of Redcliffe and then….

And then…

She didn’t know where she would go or what she would do next. She couldn’t go home. There was far too much going on here to leave. She had to stay, but where?

Jocasta urged their little cart along, forcing a calm smile to remain on her face, the horses kept at a steady, gentle pace until they were out of sight of the gates. “You can come up now.” She said finally. She was flooded with adrenaline, her hands shaking violently. They needed to get out of that miserable country, past the fighting to the relative calm of Nevarra - assuming the peace had held while they were waiting in Redcliffe. 

“I used what news I could get to plot our route through the South.” Jocasta explained. “But we will need to be prepared. Our plan is to make for Cumberland, by sea. If we can make it to the port and find a ship to carry us. If not...”

The thought of making for Nevarra by land was not a pleasant one - Orlais was no more stable than Fereldan, and the journey would take far longer.

Jocasta covered her mouth to stifle her surprised laugh. What Hazred said had certainly crossed her mind, though she hadn’t intended to say it out loud. Not just yet, anyways. “Poor woman.” She said crisply, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. “Her loss is our gain, I suppose. The evening is much more pleasant as it is.”

“Oh, I don’t know.” Jocasta admits, shaking her head. “It has been a long journey, and I feel very drained. And of course, neither of us has been to a centre of culture recently enough to be able to discuss the theatre.” She jokes, smiling faintly. “You should travel to High Rock next. I think you’ll find it more palatable than the Reach.”
