What is your favorite and least favorite thing about your characters?
Favorite: My favorite thing about Lucinda is how loving she really is. She hides it better than most, but she does truly care about the people that she sees are her people. She is stubborn, but she’d protect any one of them at any cost, even though a lot of them don’t, or might not, accept her for her lying about her blood status.
Least Favorite: Her ability to hate. Just as fiercely as she loves, Lucinda hates. She has held such a grudge against Emma for things that Emma can’t really control. Emma is a pureblood, has the talent to play professionally, and made captain first. That is something Lucinda will never forgive her for. Just like she’ll never forgive her brother for leaving her to go sit with his friends on that first train ride to Hogwarts. She can hold onto hate just as tightly as she can to love.
Favorite: My favorite thing about Batty is her brokenedness. It’s fun to write, but it also highlights everything she says and does. There is always a reason in her persona for why she offers someone a cigarette, or why she likes Ludo’s company. He is the kind of person that she remembers her dad being before her mother and sister’s death. She doesn’t realize this, but it’s the reason she is drawn to being his friend.
Least Favorite: She is hard to have conversations with, or really interact with in any way. Batty either wants to run, or wants to cling. She either says nothing, or everything, and it is hard for her to find an in between.
Favorite: Her selfishness. To me, her selfishness makes her human. She doesn’t care about the war, so much as it doesn’t affect her, she wants what she wants and she wants it now, she pitches a fit when she doesn’t get her way, but while she is selfish, she is also just a little girl. She’s 19, has lost a child, had her heart broken, and been disowned by her family and she honestly can’t comprehend why people don’t love her like she loves them, or like she thinks she loves them.
Least Favorite: I hate her clingyness. She clings to anyone that pays her the slightest bit of attention and it tends to bite her in the ass. No one lives up to her expectations, mostly because her expectations are that she is made number one in their mind, no matter what.
Favorite: I love how much of a secret badass she is. She can kick some serious ass if it means helping people, but she hides it unless she has to use it. It really shows just how modest and good hearted she is. She wants so badly to be a pacifist, but she won’t let innocent people, or anyone she cares for, get hurt so she can stay neutral.
Least Favorite: I hate how lowly Mary sees herself at times. She really lost her confidence when she was attacked and I don’t think she ever completely got it back. She loves herself, don’t get me wrong, but she never finished school, she sees her friends as idols, and she can’t be a healer like she has dreamed of being.
Favorite: Her confidence. Rosalind is who she is and that’s that. She loves herself and doesn’t let anyone else’s opinion of her change anything. She knows that she is beautiful and she flaunts it for the world to see.
Least Favorite: The way she bottles up her feelings. Any feeling that she doesn’t deem part of who she is, she pushes down. She wants to be fun and happy, not sad and emotional. One day she’ll explode and it won’t be pretty.
