You’re telling me. I didn’t expect to run into another me, much less two!

"Ah, sweet little Belle. It has been such a long time, hasn't it?"

She heard it in her code before she registered it with her ears. A low, warbling hum, in a tone that no doubt irritated organic ears, but to her it was like an incessant static scratching at her audio processors. It was soon followed by a smooth, dulcet voice, tinged with an undercurrent of malice. One she wished she could forget. "S-S-Starline?" her voice box stuttered and skipped as she stopped in her tracks.

"Now hun, no need to disrespect a man's name like that. Say it right."

He appeared in front of her, leaning down to be eye to eye. A sharp glare is what would meet her gaze, yet a smile never left the man's bill. He wasn't really here, there wasn't much effort put into holding the form together, glitching around the edges.

She gulped down an imaginary lump in her throat, fist to her chest, and did her best to glare at the platypus. He was between her and the exist to Robotnik's lair, and if she didn't manage to squeeze past him... The last thing she wanted was for the doctor to realize she was still there. "What do you want, Starline?"

"Just to pay a visit! Tis all..."

His gaze switched from a glare to almost as if he was looking through her soul, as if she was nothing more than a few 1s and 0s that he could analyze.

"Say, Darling, with your pops gone again- who exactly do you have left?"

The motors in her limb joints stiffened up, making her stand straighter, as though trying to match her posture to her level indignation at his question. "My friends. Which is more than you'll ever have." She still remembered the day that sham of a doctor had kidnapped her out of the restoration. The way he looked at her not as a person, but as a mechanical curiosity, only worth what could be learned by studying and dissecting the pieces. He disgusted her more than Doctor Robotnik ever could. At least the former had the decency to treat her as a person, not a plaything.

"Are they really your friends? Or is it just that same pity that they show every poor soul who's been hurt by their failure to take in a criminal like Eggman?"

He straightened up, cleaning his glasses on the end of his top, while still staring straight at the bot, unblinking.

"I mean, when's the last time they took interest in you outside your use as a machine? Do they even know who YOU are, behind the wooden shell?"

His words stung, but she'd lived enough of a life since they'd first met to know that nothing he asked was in the least bit true. Even as the tears began to bubble up, her thoughts turned to all of the times she'd shared with her—her friends. The camping misadventure with Amy, Tangle, and Jewel. Figuring out how Motobud's code might be used to free Eggman's robots from his control with Tails. The many months working side-by-side with all of them at the Restoration. Even the incident during the sweepstakes tournament. Not once had they ever questioned her validity as a person. Not once had she ever had to question their interest in her as a person. "They care about me plenty. They know exactly what am I, where I came I from. None of that other stuff ever mattered to them. They care about who I am. They care about the person behind all of these gears and wires a-and sawdust," She retorted. She felt a sort of pride welling up in her circuits as she got right up in the platypus's face. Starline could try all he want to get under her wooden shell and fabric skin, but he would not succeed in making her question friendships with the people she loved. "I. Am more than just some machine."

"They care about you as they would any other lost soul. You had not addressed my first point because you have no argument for it. The only difference between you and the others they've saved is in the eyes of the public, you're still on the doctor's side, so you have no choice but to stay with them instead of spreading your hypothetical wings as all the others they've rescued do. They know exactly what you are and where you've come from because without that information? You're just another badnik that needs to be wiped off the map."

His head merely tilted to the side as she got close, unphased by her attitude or her retort.

"I've seen inside their little heads. Both with the power of my new toy, and long before by simply observing. I am a psychologist, you know. My first and favorite doctorate. The strongest emotion any one of them have for you is pity. And maybe a little fear. One wrong interference, and you turn on them at the drop of a hat. You already attacked Tails, who will you attack next?"

"You— You don't know anything about me or my friends!" Simulated breath hitched, whirring gears quickened, and motherboards heated up from the strain of building emotion. "You've shown, time and time again, that you don't understand anyone! I've met who knows how many good people on my travels, and they've all seen me for who I am, not who built me! And I believe, with all my heart, through all of their words and actions, that they see me as their friend just as much as I see them as mine!" A burst of righteous anger burned in her circuits. Her arm motors spooled up, reeling back suddenly, then pushing forwards just as quickly. If the platypus was as solid as he appeared, Belle had effectively shoved him back with as much force as she could muster. Nevertheless, Starline's accusations brought forward tears she had thought she was done shedding over her identity. "I only attacked Tails because of your signal, which you implanted in D—in Doctor Eggman's systems! The same signal Tails saved me from, and the same signal that forced me to hurt my best. friend. In order to save him too." She stood straight, defiant, prodding the other's chest to punctuate her point. "You think you know everything, but you couldn't even figure out what made Sonic or Tails tick, let alone Eggman. And you sure as heck don't know me."

Worried Wisps waft into view to warily warn of wounded wolves

The room of the Diamond Cutter’s badass lemur was rather plain, a large and open room with wooden floors and walls painted a dull blue not too dissimilar from the shade of Whisper’s mask. The most extravagant parts of the room was simply a mirror that lined a good portion of one of the walls, a rack of weights and small workout equipment in front of it as well as a yoga mat rolled on the floor. In one corner of the room was a wooden desk setup with built in drawers, cabinets and a mirror. Strewn across the desktop in an organized yet chaotic manner was a series of notebooks and pens alongside makeup brushes and containers, to the right of the desk was a wooden door, presumably too Tangle’s closet, speaking of whom…

Across from the desk, in the other unoccupied corner of the room, was Tangle sitting on her bed, book in hand, she didn’t read all too often, she never exactly could get herself into any books but Whisper had recommended this one so of course the Lemur would end up reading it!

Suddenly a knock could be heard echoing through the room, originating from the window next to Tangle’s bed, she looked over and saw some Wisps floating just outside. She chuckled, unlocking the window and slid it up and open with a quick motion of her tail, letting in the Wisps. “Well hey there little guys! What’cha doing here?”

The Wisps were quick to soar over and embrace the lemur in a flurry of pink, green, cyan, and orange. The four immediately glued themselves to her sides, all but pinning her to the mattress. Cyan glued itself to her chest. Green and Orange snuggled up under the lemur's armpits with eyes wide and worried, whilst Pink gripped onto her head like it were afraid to lose her.

Cyan was the first to pull away from the cuddle pile, flailing its tentacles this way and that, squealing and chittering in that indescribable language of theirs. When it finished speaking, it held its tentacles forward as though inviting Tangle to react, but it was clear by the dumbfounded look on her face that she had no idea what it was saying.

The Cyan wisp deflated with a frustrated sounding shudder. Changing tactics, it pried Pink off of her head and positioned its spiky colleague opposite before chittering what sounded like instructions.

Cyan then covered one eye with one appendage, pointing another and sweeping it around as though miming a weapon being aimed. It signaled Pink, but upon receiving a blank stare in return, it grabbed Pink once again, flipping it upside down and tweaking the other's appendages to appear like an angry looking pony tail, and repeated its initial routine. At Cyan's prompting, Pink reciprocated by growling exaggeratedly. This back and forth continued for a while, long enough for one to notice there was someone missing from the flock.

Tangle cocked her head, initially she was chuckling as she watched the Wisps stumbling around and their silly noises, though she locked in when she realized they weren't just randomly flailing about, the Wisps were trying to communicate.

"... Ok um... you're aiming something right, something long and... your face is covered... Oh! You're meant to be Whisper! I get it!"

Tangle said, bouncing on her bed slightly in her excitement, she leaned in closer, paying better attention to their charades. "Alright, so Whisper was... Aiming at something? No, she was looking for someone right!? Ok, so who are you meant to be then?..."

The lemur stared at the pink wisp for a while, all she had to go off of was a ponytail for who they were meant to be... Who did she know with a ponytail besides Whisper?

Cyan gurgled a small sigh. It signaled Pink to come closer. It made a show of gingerly planting a tentacle on one of the other Wisp's spikes. Then, it flailed its other limbs erratically as though it had plugged a fork into a wall socket before jerking back suddenly. Circling back around, it tackled Pink, and the two engaged in a mock fight.

Once the multi-colored dust settled, Cyan floated daintily on its back, seemingly defeated. Pink growled victorious, trying its best not to accidentally look towards the floor as it roared towards the heavens. Cyan flapped a feeler in Orange's direction. The rocket wisp wasted no time in flying in behind Pink. It mimed an explosion, and Pink took a dive next to Cyan.

The two stay like that for a time, waiting. Orange had returned to Green's side. When Green doesn't move, Orange pokes its companion. The little hover wisp, realizing that's its cue, rushing over to drag Pink away. Eventually, Cyan's eyes pop open, and it speeds back over to Tangle for her response.

She squinted and stared for a moment in thought, though she didn't understand the specifics Tangle could pick up the jist of it, there was a fight an explosion...

"...Crap!" The lemur shot up off her bed and rushed over to her closet and opened it up, pulling out her extreme-gear Grinder boots, she would've liked a weapon to grab too... she should really talk to Tails about a wispon one of these days...

"Thanks for telling me little guys... Where is she at right now? Do you know that as well?" She asked, her word were somewhat slurred yet still translatable as she hastily began putting on the Grinders.

Every single Wisp nodded vigorously, Cyan specifically gesturing with its flapper 'follow me!' The four of them swiftly gathered by the door, Pink tugging gently on Tangle’s tail.

A muffled rata-tap-tap sounded against the wood. Little did any of them realize that there was a visitor on the other side of the door. Only Green caught on, waggling over to futz with the knob. Struggling to maintain a grip with its little round nubs, it took all of its effort to finally twist it far enough to the door to swing open.

"Oh, hello there little guys! Didn't expect to see you all here." Came a chiming voice from who could only be the little wooden tinkerer. "Is Tangle in? There's something important I need to tell her about."

The lemur girl had just put on her Grinders, hap-hazardly throwing them on before jumping to her feet. She wasn't sure who the person with the ponytail was but that was less important than responding properly, or at least as properly as she say it, to what the wisps told her.

Tangle wasn't just going to sit around after being told the love of her life (don't tell tangle i said that, she'd fire me) got into a fight withour the lemur knowing and not only that, but being severly injured from it! Tangle jumped to her feet and was about to rocket out the door just as it opened.

Upon seeing Belle she came to a sceeching stop and fell on her butt. "Oooow... Hi there Belle!"

Tangle picked herself up, dusting off her clothes and rolling her shoulders, "sorry, i'm in a bit of a rush right now. Do you need something?"

Recalling the Wisps, and knowing who they belonged with, Belle quite easily put together that they had come here for the same reason she had. "Actually, about that," Belle started, lacing her fingers together. "I came here to tell you; Whisper got into a fight. With Surge." She eyed the wisps carefully. Cyan gave the puppet girl a reassuring nod. She returned its approval with a soft, sad smile. "Tails told me he found them both unconscious, and dragged her safety, b-but by the he came back for Surge, she was gone. I came over to let you know where Whisper was recovering." Belle braced herself for the lemur's reaction.

"So that's what these guys were talking about huh?" Tangle muttered, she placed a hand on the pink wisps head and ruffled its spikes as if ruffling hair. "These little guys already told me about Whisper in their own little way, i didn't pick up on it being Surge who attacked though... I don't think that I would've guessed that anyway, but I can't say im suprised either, I know those two are trying to be better but I have my reservations about Surge."

The lemur sighed and put her hands in the pockets of her leggings, leaning back slightly. "Well, thank you for coming and telling me. Is Whisper going to be ok?"

Hopefully. Belle hadn't high hopes, but she knew Whisper has pulled through worse before. There was also... him to think about. The longer she put off that visit, the better. The Wisps, on the other hand, were more than ready to get going. Green and Orange shoved up against Tangle's backside, and Cyan was tugging at Belle's collar.

"Yeah, i hope she's fine... If not then I might have to beat up Surge a litte more than what I was already thinking of doing."

Tangle halfway considered taking off her extreme-gear and putting her regular shoes back on since it wasn't like she needed to be going uber fast with them but it'd probably be a waste of time, plus the wisps seemed awfully worried about Whisper, the lemur could understand why.

She chuckled at the feeling of the two wisps rubbing up behind her, she was fairly ticklish after all. Tangle wrapped her tail around the green and orange wisps before bringing them around in front of her. Now wrapping her arms around the two she held them close to her chest in a hug to try and ease them.

"Everything's gonna be ok, Whisper's strong, and awesome, and-... And I'm sure she'll be just fine." Tangle cooed, she was trying to keep herself calmed as much as she was trying to calm the wisps.

Her hand came up, landing lightly upon her friends unoccupied shoulder, offering her condolence. This wasn't the first time Whisper had been seriously hurt, but she remembered well Tangle's anxiety the last time it had happened. "Let's not waste anymore time, then." The softness of her own voice surprised her, somewhat. "I'm not sure if you noticed, but we seem to be a wisp short, and I'll bet Blue's hoping we show up at the hospital sooner rather than later."

The four who were present reacted with a mixture of humorous bleeps and awkward trills. In all the commotion, they'd all neglected the fifth member of their pod. As they all laughed off their mistake, Motobud wheeled from behind, his protective shell fluttering as he took in the scene before him. Spotting him, a spark of realization bridged the circuits of Belle's motherboard. "Oh! I just realized; with your ex-gear, we might be able to make it there faster if I leave the cart behind and follow behind you on Motobud!"

"...Crap!" The lemur shot up off her bed and rushed over to her closet and opened it up, pulling out her extreme-gear Grinder boots, she would've liked a weapon to grab too... she should really talk to Tails about a wispon one of these days...

"Thanks for telling me little guys... Where is she at right now? Do you know that as well?" She asked, her word were somewhat slurred yet still translatable as she hastily began putting on the Grinders.

Every single Wisp nodded vigorously, Cyan specifically gesturing with its flapper 'follow me!' The four of them swiftly gathered by the door, Pink tugging gently on Tangle’s tail.

A muffled rata-tap-tap sounded against the wood. Little did any of them realize that there was a visitor on the other side of the door. Only Green caught on, waggling over to futz with the knob. Struggling to maintain a grip with its little round nubs, it took all of its effort to finally twist it far enough to the door to swing open.

"Oh, hello there little guys! Didn't expect to see you all here." Came a chiming voice from who could only be the little wooden tinkerer. "Is Tangle in? There's something important I need to tell her about."

The lemur girl had just put on her Grinders, hap-hazardly throwing them on before jumping to her feet. She wasn't sure who the person with the ponytail was but that was less important than responding properly, or at least as properly as she say it, to what the wisps told her.

Tangle wasn't just going to sit around after being told the love of her life (don't tell tangle i said that, she'd fire me) got into a fight withour the lemur knowing and not only that, but being severly injured from it! Tangle jumped to her feet and was about to rocket out the door just as it opened.

Upon seeing Belle she came to a sceeching stop and fell on her butt. "Oooow... Hi there Belle!"

Tangle picked herself up, dusting off her clothes and rolling her shoulders, "sorry, i'm in a bit of a rush right now. Do you need something?"

Recalling the Wisps, and knowing who they belonged with, Belle quite easily put together that they had come here for the same reason she had. "Actually, about that," Belle started, lacing her fingers together. "I came here to tell you; Whisper got into a fight. With Surge." She eyed the wisps carefully. Cyan gave the puppet girl a reassuring nod. She returned its approval with a soft, sad smile. "Tails told me he found them both unconscious, and dragged her safety, b-but by the he came back for Surge, she was gone. I came over to let you know where Whisper was recovering." Belle braced herself for the lemur's reaction.

"So that's what these guys were talking about huh?" Tangle muttered, she placed a hand on the pink wisps head and ruffled its spikes as if ruffling hair. "These little guys already told me about Whisper in their own little way, i didn't pick up on it being Surge who attacked though... I don't think that I would've guessed that anyway, but I can't say im suprised either, I know those two are trying to be better but I have my reservations about Surge."

The lemur sighed and put her hands in the pockets of her leggings, leaning back slightly. "Well, thank you for coming and telling me. Is Whisper going to be ok?"

The arboreal automaton allowed herself an unsounded sigh of relief, letting her shoulder motors relax as her hands fell down to her sides. "That's what I was intending to find out after coming to tell you," She answered. "I was thinking we'd both head to the hospital together. According to Tails, she should still be comatose, but hopefully by the time we get there, she'll be awake."

Hopefully. Belle hadn't high hopes, but she knew Whisper has pulled through worse before. There was also... him to think about. The longer she put off that visit, the better. The Wisps, on the other hand, were more than ready to get going. Green and Orange shoved up against Tangle's backside, and Cyan was tugging at Belle's collar.

Worried Wisps waft into view to warily warn of wounded wolves

The room of the Diamond Cutter’s badass lemur was rather plain, a large and open room with wooden floors and walls painted a dull blue not too dissimilar from the shade of Whisper’s mask. The most extravagant parts of the room was simply a mirror that lined a good portion of one of the walls, a rack of weights and small workout equipment in front of it as well as a yoga mat rolled on the floor. In one corner of the room was a wooden desk setup with built in drawers, cabinets and a mirror. Strewn across the desktop in an organized yet chaotic manner was a series of notebooks and pens alongside makeup brushes and containers, to the right of the desk was a wooden door, presumably too Tangle’s closet, speaking of whom…

Across from the desk, in the other unoccupied corner of the room, was Tangle sitting on her bed, book in hand, she didn’t read all too often, she never exactly could get herself into any books but Whisper had recommended this one so of course the Lemur would end up reading it!

Suddenly a knock could be heard echoing through the room, originating from the window next to Tangle’s bed, she looked over and saw some Wisps floating just outside. She chuckled, unlocking the window and slid it up and open with a quick motion of her tail, letting in the Wisps. “Well hey there little guys! What’cha doing here?”

The Wisps were quick to soar over and embrace the lemur in a flurry of pink, green, cyan, and orange. The four immediately glued themselves to her sides, all but pinning her to the mattress. Cyan glued itself to her chest. Green and Orange snuggled up under the lemur's armpits with eyes wide and worried, whilst Pink gripped onto her head like it were afraid to lose her.

Cyan was the first to pull away from the cuddle pile, flailing its tentacles this way and that, squealing and chittering in that indescribable language of theirs. When it finished speaking, it held its tentacles forward as though inviting Tangle to react, but it was clear by the dumbfounded look on her face that she had no idea what it was saying.

The Cyan wisp deflated with a frustrated sounding shudder. Changing tactics, it pried Pink off of her head and positioned its spiky colleague opposite before chittering what sounded like instructions.

Cyan then covered one eye with one appendage, pointing another and sweeping it around as though miming a weapon being aimed. It signaled Pink, but upon receiving a blank stare in return, it grabbed Pink once again, flipping it upside down and tweaking the other's appendages to appear like an angry looking pony tail, and repeated its initial routine. At Cyan's prompting, Pink reciprocated by growling exaggeratedly. This back and forth continued for a while, long enough for one to notice there was someone missing from the flock.

Tangle cocked her head, initially she was chuckling as she watched the Wisps stumbling around and their silly noises, though she locked in when she realized they weren't just randomly flailing about, the Wisps were trying to communicate.

"... Ok um... you're aiming something right, something long and... your face is covered... Oh! You're meant to be Whisper! I get it!"

Tangle said, bouncing on her bed slightly in her excitement, she leaned in closer, paying better attention to their charades. "Alright, so Whisper was... Aiming at something? No, she was looking for someone right!? Ok, so who are you meant to be then?..."

The lemur stared at the pink wisp for a while, all she had to go off of was a ponytail for who they were meant to be... Who did she know with a ponytail besides Whisper?

Cyan gurgled a small sigh. It signaled Pink to come closer. It made a show of gingerly planting a tentacle on one of the other Wisp's spikes. Then, it flailed its other limbs erratically as though it had plugged a fork into a wall socket before jerking back suddenly. Circling back around, it tackled Pink, and the two engaged in a mock fight.

Once the multi-colored dust settled, Cyan floated daintily on its back, seemingly defeated. Pink growled victorious, trying its best not to accidentally look towards the floor as it roared towards the heavens. Cyan flapped a feeler in Orange's direction. The rocket wisp wasted no time in flying in behind Pink. It mimed an explosion, and Pink took a dive next to Cyan.

The two stay like that for a time, waiting. Orange had returned to Green's side. When Green doesn't move, Orange pokes its companion. The little hover wisp, realizing that's its cue, rushing over to drag Pink away. Eventually, Cyan's eyes pop open, and it speeds back over to Tangle for her response.

Eggman arrives back at his empire, he looks around for his henchmen, but while doing so he runs into his office searching for his papers

“I wonder what I set its power limit at.. hopefully it didn’t collect to much dust..”

The doctor chuckled and speaks as if expecting the platypus to be watching somehow.

“You know, I’d hate to be you right now. But I’ll continue to humor your game.”

He presses a button and an alarm goes off

“ORBOT!CUBOT!SAGE,METAL! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU!”

The bot shrunk in on himself. Robotnik had a number of plans on roboticization- he'd have to spend HOURS digging through the files- the old paper only ones too, to make sure he found the right one.

"I- Well, everything has been going smoothly in your absence, sir. The lesser bots are non-the-wiser of your brief absence thanks to Sage."

He avoided the topic, glancing around at the other's, trying to see if any of them knew a thing about what plans the doctor had been talking about.

"Oh dear..."

"G-good talk Met—" The little Tinker poked her head out through the hole Metal left, only to quickly reel herself back into the shadows of the closet. Her hands shot up over her mouth to try (and fail) to stifle the simulated gasp that left her artificial lips. No. No. He couldn't have recovered that fast, could he? How long had He been back for? It couldn't have been more than a few hours, could it? She checked her internal clock. Two Days. That's not possible. Had she really lost that much track of time? Did Sage do something? Was it something to do with that awful humming from earlier? She desperately hoped Motobud had made it out alright.

The front door swung open, its mechanisms offering little in the way of resistance to the struggling wooden puppet girl pressing against it. It swung open with a mighty screech. "Hello? Is anyone home?" She called out into the darkness beyond. "Orbot? Cubot? ...Metal Sonic?"

Tinker jumps slightly at the sound, he pokes his head out from the end of the hall

“Hello? Can I help-“

His eyes widen as he rushes towards the other

“Belle!!!! Oh my goodness is that you!! Ohh my sweet daughter!! I was looking for you! Where on earth did you run off to?”

"BELLE!!!—" >MEMORY ERROR: LOGIC FAULT She jolted upright, arms snapping to her sides, her eyes going wide. She took in the bright, bubbly, big-bellied figure before her.

Circuits surged with static as simulated emotions rolled over her in waves. Electric surprise, followed by cool relief, and chased by mellow ambivalence. There was a burning sensation in the back of her motherboard. If the man formerly known as Doctor Robotnik stood close enough, he'd probably catch a whiff of burning plastic mixed with smoking wood fibers. "So it's true. Y-you're really back."

She dared not blink, dared not look away for fear of the man she called her father turning back into that monster the minute she turned away.

“What do you mean back I… oh..”

He scratched his head

“Was I out long..?”

He doesn’t seem to remember how he ended up back as eggman, nor is he really aware of him besides the notes all over the empire signed by eggman.

She stepped forward—no, ran forward—until she collided with his ample belly, arms outstretched to encompass as much as of the old toymaker as she could. There was a welling of pressure in her chest cavity. A warm, wet feeling eked out of the corners of her optics... Were these tears? No no no. It must be a coolant leak.

Her jaw mechanism clicked and clacked, wobbling like it had encountered a fault in its coding. Synthesized breaths came fast and shallow, devolving into hiccups as her processors skipped and scratched.

He catches her and engulfs her into a big ol tight hug

“Woah- hey! What the matter love?”

He rubs her back

“Hey.. I’m here it’s okay. What’s the matter huh? Why are you shaking? It’s okay.. papa’s here..”

He wiped the coolant from the bots eyes

She glances up at her father's face, staring down at her with those kindly eyes... well, specs. In the shadows cast by the light pouring in through the door, those glasses gleam with the intensity of the old doctor's glare. It's enough to snap her out of her reverie. All at once her system glitches grind to a halt. Her motherboard freezes over in terror. She pushes herself away from him, only to bump into Motobud, who'd rolled up from behind. His presence is calming, reassuring, and the shadow of a monster dissipates back into the calm, yet worried visage of her creator. "It's... A long story. To be honest, I never thought I'd get to see you as, well, I'm glad I've found you again. You've been missing a while."

Mr Tinker looks down at his daughter confused at her sudden movement, he decided to not think deep into it.

“Missing..? I went missing? And oh? Who is this little guy?”

He crouches and looks at the motobug, reaching out to touch. He looks at Belle with a smile

“Did you build him yourself? I’m impressed, your capabilities are always improving y’know.”

Motobud readily accepts Mr Tinker’s offered hand, letting his gloved hand rub the goodnik’s tempered steel carapace.

“You did, actually. I just fixed him up after—” The memory of her tearing out the wires keeping her best friend functioning flashes in her eyes. “After he had a bad accident.”

He really didn’t remember building Motobud to find her?

“Oh my, I built him..?”

He rubs his head and stand back up

“I been rather forgetful lately.. I’m sorry dear.”

He stretches and paused for a moment

“An accident? Well I’m glad he’s doing well now. Are you staying awhile?”

"I... Honestly didn't expect to find you here at all, really, but..."

Why doesn't he remember? The question crossed her mind. It still didn't feel right, to simply pick up where things left off after putting him to rest in her heart not so long ago. “Those two have been rather sweet. No issues. Oh and met whomst? Please tell. It’s just so odd your saying I was missing but I don’t think I’ve gone anywhere..”

She couldn't bring herself to do much more than let him drag her around and inspect her construction. "Uh... nobody important." Motobud huffed in a buzzy, electronic tone, wheeling over to a nearby console and parking up. His rear bumper hit collided with hard THUNK, waking the computer up and startling the little bot. "And, I say you were missing because... You kind of were. For a while, I thought you were gone for good. But here you are! Safe and sound. Safe, and... Sound." She pauses, rubbing her arms, her gloves catching on the occasional splinter. She catches a glance of the face on the screen.

The man tilts his head in confusion, nobody important? That’s sorta rude to say. But he shakes it off and straightens up

“Where was I if I was missing? I thought I was here the whole time..”

Safe and sound…?

“Are you okay Belle? You can tell me if something’s on your mind.. you seem a bit off”

If she had a throat, she’d have a hell of a lump in it right then and there. She exchanged a glance with Motobud. He returned only a sad wilting of his remaining antenna.

"You weren't just... missing. You were... gone. Like Gone gone. I mourned you. I accepted it. But now here you are, acting as if the very thing that took you away from me? Never happened." An emulation of a sigh escaped her synthetic lips. "And the man who took you away? I'm pretty sure he's the one who brought you back."

Tinker froze for a moment. He could feel something abnormal within himself. He can feel his heart pound

“Mourn? Gone? You thought I was dead?”

DEAD??!

His eyes widen, he couldn’t even process what was happening

“Acting? I don’t recall any of these events- Belle.. I.. I’m sorry..”

He reaches out to his daughter but hesitates before pulling her into a tight hug

“Nevermind that …I.. I’m back now then… yes?.. let’s… not dwell on this..the best we can.”

Yet she had seen what he was capable of, when compassion and empathy was stripped away, and only egomania and apathy remained. She knew this couldn't last. The tears that flowed were bittersweet. MotObuD simply watched the display, unable to compute an adequate response. Unbeknownst to him, the webcam built into the display behind him clicked on.

The screen flashes and slowly adjusts

“Father. Metal Sonic is nowhere to be seen and-“

Sage analyzes the scene In front of her, the screen soon turns off, then at the corner of Belles eyes she can see a bot that suddenly teleports and is now there in the room with them. Sage never dealt jealousy, after all she was always her father’s favorite, whether people debated if it was metal or not, however now seeing another bot in her father’s arms didn’t sit right. Especially since he isn’t himself.

“Oh.. hello Belle.”

Sage tilts her head and walks forward, she tugs Tinkers arm to get him to stop hugging the other.

Tinker jolts up letting go of Belle then looks at the bot in the room

“Father? Did.. I make you as well and forget..? Oh my.. I really am forgetful as of late..Now what were you saying..? Metal..?”

He looks back at Belle and makes sure she was okay after his quick sudden movement

Coolant tears trickled to a slow stop once she realized who it was in the room with them. She wiped her eyes. The puppet girl stood defiant, arms at her side. "Sage." Motobud looked between the two artificial girls, not too enthused by the possible ways this could turn out badly.

The front door swung open, its mechanisms offering little in the way of resistance to the struggling wooden puppet girl pressing against it. It swung open with a mighty screech. "Hello? Is anyone home?" She called out into the darkness beyond. "Orbot? Cubot? ...Metal Sonic?"

Tinker jumps slightly at the sound, he pokes his head out from the end of the hall

“Hello? Can I help-“

His eyes widen as he rushes towards the other

“Belle!!!! Oh my goodness is that you!! Ohh my sweet daughter!! I was looking for you! Where on earth did you run off to?”

"BELLE!!!—" >MEMORY ERROR: LOGIC FAULT She jolted upright, arms snapping to her sides, her eyes going wide. She took in the bright, bubbly, big-bellied figure before her.

Circuits surged with static as simulated emotions rolled over her in waves. Electric surprise, followed by cool relief, and chased by mellow ambivalence. There was a burning sensation in the back of her motherboard. If the man formerly known as Doctor Robotnik stood close enough, he'd probably catch a whiff of burning plastic mixed with smoking wood fibers. "So it's true. Y-you're really back."

She dared not blink, dared not look away for fear of the man she called her father turning back into that monster the minute she turned away.

“What do you mean back I… oh..”

He scratched his head

“Was I out long..?”

He doesn’t seem to remember how he ended up back as eggman, nor is he really aware of him besides the notes all over the empire signed by eggman.

She stepped forward—no, ran forward—until she collided with his ample belly, arms outstretched to encompass as much as of the old toymaker as she could. There was a welling of pressure in her chest cavity. A warm, wet feeling eked out of the corners of her optics... Were these tears? No no no. It must be a coolant leak.

Her jaw mechanism clicked and clacked, wobbling like it had encountered a fault in its coding. Synthesized breaths came fast and shallow, devolving into hiccups as her processors skipped and scratched.

He catches her and engulfs her into a big ol tight hug

“Woah- hey! What the matter love?”

He rubs her back

“Hey.. I’m here it’s okay. What’s the matter huh? Why are you shaking? It’s okay.. papa’s here..”

He wiped the coolant from the bots eyes

She glances up at her father's face, staring down at her with those kindly eyes... well, specs. In the shadows cast by the light pouring in through the door, those glasses gleam with the intensity of the old doctor's glare. It's enough to snap her out of her reverie. All at once her system glitches grind to a halt. Her motherboard freezes over in terror. She pushes herself away from him, only to bump into Motobud, who'd rolled up from behind. His presence is calming, reassuring, and the shadow of a monster dissipates back into the calm, yet worried visage of her creator. "It's... A long story. To be honest, I never thought I'd get to see you as, well, I'm glad I've found you again. You've been missing a while."

Mr Tinker looks down at his daughter confused at her sudden movement, he decided to not think deep into it.

“Missing..? I went missing? And oh? Who is this little guy?”

He crouches and looks at the motobug, reaching out to touch. He looks at Belle with a smile

“Did you build him yourself? I’m impressed, your capabilities are always improving y’know.”

Motobud readily accepts Mr Tinker’s offered hand, letting his gloved hand rub the goodnik’s tempered steel carapace.

“You did, actually. I just fixed him up after—” The memory of her tearing out the wires keeping her best friend functioning flashes in her eyes. “After he had a bad accident.”

He really didn’t remember building Motobud to find her?

“Oh my, I built him..?”

He rubs his head and stand back up

“I been rather forgetful lately.. I’m sorry dear.”

He stretches and paused for a moment

“An accident? Well I’m glad he’s doing well now. Are you staying awhile?”
