[cis woman, she/her] Welcome to Aurora Bay, [LOGAN WILDE]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [MOLLY GORDON]. You must be the [TWENTY-SIX] year old [CHEF AT LA VIE EN ROSE BISTRO]. Word is you’re [DETERMINED] but can also be a bit [QUIET] and your favorite song is [THE PROPHECY BY TAYLOR SWIFT]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [OCEAN CREST APARTMENTS]. I’m sure you’ll love it!

Logan was born the middle child of her family, and made truth of every cliche about it. The spare one, the forgotten one, the one that was satisfactory in everything and never quite superior and always just...there. And it's not that her parents didn't love her, because they did, it's just that she was always self-sufficient enough in everything, that at times it was like they weren't needed. At least, that's how Loe justified it in her head. She was adequate enough in everything she did, that her parents never bothered to make her strive for more (or to be less).
And the thing was, for a long time Logan was okay with blending into the background, okay with being just okay. A solid B+ student, good friends, the one the entire Wilde clan never needed to worry about. The one no one worried about and often overlooked. But she was okay with it until she wasn't. Until she wanted to be more. And while she wasn't a perfect student or a perfect daughter, there was one thing she was actually really, really good at: cooking. Chalked up to countless hours as a child of watching Julia Child and The Barefoot Contessa, while her siblings whittled away at all their other hobbies and lives, Loe often found herself in the kitchen, handling knives and kitchen utensils no kid should, and slowly but surely, she got better and better at it. Her mother started asking her for help to make dinner, her dad was bragging about her dishes when eating his leftovers for lunch at work. Suddenly, she wasn't in the background anymore.
She worked on it to the point of obsession, and when she got accepted into the Culinary Institute of America, Logan felt like she finally was doing more with her life than just being in the background.
She chose to go to the California campus to remain somewhat close to home (ten hours north, but still) and while in college, she thrived. Loe wasn't in her siblings' shadows, wasn't skipped over. She actually felt pretty...important. She'd even started putting herself out there and dating around, and when she was twenty-one she met Ryan. He was an art student nearby and they hit it off pretty quick, the textbook definition of a whirlwind romance where Logan was moving in with him within a couple months, met each others' friends and families. She felt like he was it.
So a year into their relationship, Loe was kind of convinced there'd be a ring coming soon enough, convinced that she'd finally been chosen. So much so, that she found herself putting him and their relationship first and she turned down one of her professor's offers to put in her name to be accepted into a prestigious culinary class in Paris. After all, how could she fly across the world and leave when her life was now here?
Instead though, what came soon after was the revelation that Ryan was seeing someone else. Not just someone, but his high school sweetheart. One who'd recently moved back home. And it turned out, Logan hadn't been the one, she'd just been a replacement. A stand-in for the main girl Ryan really wanted.
Once again, she'd been overshadowed.
Not able to stomach any of it, Loe packed a bag, spending a night in a hotel room as she contemplated just moving back south to Aurora Bay. Instead what she did though was contact her professor, going to him the next day with tears and determination in her eyes as she begged to be reconsidered. And she not only had been, but Logan had been accepted soon after to Ecole Ducasse, and before she knew it, she was packing all her belongings and hopping onto that plane, flying to Paris.
And what started as simply entering a 22 week program, became Logan permanently moving to Paris, getting herself steady sous chef jobs and a cute little apartment. And again, for a long time, she was happy, she was content. But after being passed up twice for head chef, Loe was again feeling that same twisting inside herself, that same melancholy that she wasn't anything special and someone else would always be chosen ahead of her.
Over the summer though, her mom told her about a French bistro that'd opened home in Aurora Bay, and just a few weeks ago, she'd been told that there was an opening for head chef. Logan sent in her (admittedly impressive) resume, and with added recommendations from her teachers in Paris and in the states, Logan was hired.
Once again, she'd packed up her life, this time heading back to California, back to home, a place she hadn't been to aside from holidays, since she was eighteen. She figured a lot would have changed by now, but then, so has she. Logan refused to continue to be the one overlooked. Now, she was going back with her head held high and determined to prove, once and for all, that she deserved to be a first choice.
