Over the last eight years playing music with The Long Holidays has been an incredible experience. Kevin and I started the band at LMU with the loose mission of writing and performing weird songs that would make our friends laugh. We wrote and recorded ‘The Adventure Through Liquid Space’ in various apartment bedrooms with equipment of questionable quality. When Andy joined the band he galvanized the creative process. We recorded the 'Through Two Lenses EP' in various garages and bedrooms with slightly better equipment. When Sean and John joined the band we all knew that the group was complete. We got to hone our act in various dives and pubs around LA, we came into our own as a studio band working on Hello The Future’s 'Giant Robot Album', and we finally got to record our Self-Titled album in a real studio with really good equipment.
I’m very proud of everything we’ve done.
But it’s time to move on. During the last eight years I’ve also managed to get a science PhD, and a fiancee. I’ve accepted a research fellowship with the Smithsonian starting in June. Just a few days after our wedding we’re moving to Maryland.
We’re very sad to leave, but it’s not the end of the world.
Mark your calendars for April 25th because we’re going to throw The Long Holidays a viking funeral that will live on in legends. It’s going to be at Molly Malone’s, it’s going to be free, we’re having some of our best band friends open, and the show is going to be recorded. That way if the world doesn’t end we can listen to it later.
In addition to announcing the end, and promoting this show, I want to say a bunch of thank-yous. Thank you to everyone who has been in the band over the years, or featured with us, or played on our records, or covered for one of us last minute: Tony, Carl, Sam, Sean, Rob, Gabe, Taylor, Nicole, and Olivia. Thank you to Matt and JJ for making epic album art. Thank you John A. and Corey for making our self-titled album sound so professional. Thank you to all of the other great bands and musicians in the community that have shared the stage with us. I’m your biggest fan. Thank you to everyone who’ve been coming out to shows and listening to our records. Making music is fun but it’s even better when people care that you’re making it. Thank you to Jenny, Andrea, Stephanie, Kirstin, and Jamie (someone loves Kevin) for being such great wives and girlfriends.
Last of all thank you Andy, Kevin, Sean, and John for trusting me to be your songwriter and front man, for challenging me when I needed it, for being such good friends, and for making The Long Holidays such a great music making outfit.
