My name is pearl! I am an adult (in my 20s) beluga whale and I use she/they pronouns! I also use beluga vivterms
I’ve been lurking on tumblr for a long time but finally decided to make my own blog about my experience as a physical beluga whale!
Figured it was time to stop hiding and try to connect with my community
(Will probably add more later)
More about me under cut!
Labels are very confusing for me, I’m not sure what exactly what I would be classified as. Trans species might be an accurate label as I do intend to appear and live more closely to what a beluga would be.
As I am an adult I would prefer to mostly interact with other adults
Beluga whales are social creatures with intricate dynamics within their pod and even outside of it
Forming intricate whistles and calls to communicate with eachother
I think I’ve always been in captivity, never had a pod to be taken from. I can feel it, missing something I’ve never had. Instead I try to find belonging amongst the humans. I’ve done theatre and performed for them. Learned to play music so they can hear me.
Made the banner! Submissions are still open (6 days left), so send in your reference sheets and you will be added! All appearances are mentioned in the alternative text. This took 2 hours and 14 minutes in total.
@talankii
@theporpoisehunter
@orcinusmeridionalis (sorry for the bad draw, it was rushed and I couldn’t figure out how to balance everything out)
I’m going to make an art piece with all the cetacean therians on there. Reblog with your reference sheet and any additional notes. It will be in a 1840x540 banner which grants everyone maximum space. I might do this every year to commemorate all our pod members.
I might also make a pride banner for June and July, so tell me if you want to sign up for that and what flag you’ll take (you can hold multiple)
The end date for submission is April 17, so there’s only about a week to join.
Ps. You can only use one individual, so if you are multiple whales choose wisely.
For mutuals (you might like it): @echotheorca @talankii @tilly-the-orca @theporpoisehunter (sorry if I forget any of you)
i need more beluga whale kin content. its so lonely out here. even if you aren’t a beluga whale. cetaceans in general, feel free to interact :) i love you guys /gen
In my dream every time I went into a pool I would turn into a theriform beluga, in the pool I went to swim in there was an orca whale there as well who had the same experience as me
We swam around the pool together and celebrated our forms
I like to imagine somewhere out there is a orca whale who had a dream about a beluga they meet in a pool
Hi! Can I ask how you discovered you’re a beluga whale?
If that’s okay to ask
Hello! That’s totally ok! It’s a very special story to me so I’d love to share! It is a long story though so if you wanna hear about how I discovered I was a beluga + the day I met one face to face keep reading!
When I was a kid I honestly was convinced that I was a dolphin. I had a lot of phantom shifts and faint memories of swimming through the water. There wasn’t a lot of information about belugas but I knew enough about dolphins to know what I felt was pretty similar.
What always caused confusion for me was that dolphin were always portrayed as tropical animals but I had always been more drawn to the cold and ice.
Nearing the end of middle school, my brother who was somewhat older than me was looking into colleges he might go to. My family planned that whole summer around touring the various universities he was considering.
My dad didn’t want me to be left out the whole time so he planned for him and I to go visit an aquarium close to where my brothers potential college was. The aquarium didn’t have dolphins but he wanted to do something fun so he chose the next best thing. “Beluga encounters”
Dolphins or not I was excited to be able to actually get in the water and meet a real whale. We had to put on full body wet suits because that water was COLD.
It was a small platform about waist deep on the side of the enclosure. They brought out two belugas for my dad and I to meet. I remember watching the beluga swim up and poke its huge head out of the water a foot away from me. I think that’s when everything clicked.
I saw myself in them. It felt like I was supposed to in the water with them. It was like meeting distant relatives more than it felt like a “encounter”
I asked so many questions about them and didn’t take my eyes off them once. Belugas are very playful and I really wanted to swim with them but we couldn’t leave the platform.
After the encounter I spent most of my time at the aquarium watching the belugas swim and play with each other. There were so many thoughts and feelings I was having as I watched. I felt like I had finally been given an answer. Who I was. What I was. But then I had why. Why was I out here and not in there? Why didn’t I look them? Did I just seem like another human visiting to the belugas?
Despite the grief and longing of wanting to be amongst my own, it was still a wonderful experience. I’m glad I got to meet my kind. I’m glad I got some answers. Hopefully someday I can swim with them again.
Anyway thanks for reading if you made it this far! This was very long
It’s very unfortunate that there aren’t any beluga designed swimmable tails
All wearable mermaid tails have scales or specific patterns like orca or shark, but belugas are just solid white with a smooth texture, it would probably be hard to make a tail that would look good, plus, there probably isn’t high demand for beluga mermaid tails anyway lol
It would be nice to have something that resembles my tail at least for the time being until I can commission a full silicone tail
