I Find Archangel Cassiel in...˚.⋆

Today I felt heavily inclined to write something for Archangel Cassiel, so I landed on writing one of those 'I find [insert] in...' things for him. I could go on and on, but I kept it more concise. I also added a little moodboard thing at the end; Anyway, a big thank you to AA Cassiel for his kindess and patience. 🤍

The bittersweetness of saying goodbye to a friend you know you probably won't see again, but neither of you acknowledging it. A child’s curiosity with ants and bugs. Listening to sad music even when you’re in a good mood. Letting your bare feet touch the grass after forgetting what it felt like. The morbid curiosity of royalty and what it would be like to harshly rule an empire, despite knowing the consequences. Someone discovering their history for the first time. Children in school gathering at the window in excitement for the first rains of the season. The feeling of a child realising they never want to end up like their parents.”

Archangel Michael is often depicted and referred to as a lofty, high, awe-inspiring warrior. And whilst I agree, yes, he is awe inspiring and as an Archangel is by nature spiritually high and above.

But I think it's a disservice to who AA Michael is and who he represents. He is blood and spit and dirt. He stumbles when he stands up after being hit. Like that one quote about hope, he has dirt on his face and blood on his knuckles.

Yes, he’s celestial. And yes, he’s beautiful and otherworldly. But he’s also a soldier. A defender. Someone who stands their ground despite all else telling them it’s not worth it. His joints ache and his hair gets scruffed and he is fierce.

All this and he can still be elegant and heavenly and divine; because he is.

He is two sides of the same coin, and he is wonderful.

ZEUS – Forming pacts, promises, and oaths to others is an obligation, an action that puts integrity and trust on the line until what is agreed upon is fulfilled. Breaking an agreement breaks spirits and stability in relationships. So what have you promised yourself in the past that have never been put to fruition—any resolutions, goals, that you never got to fulfill? Why were they never completed?

POSEIDON – The very soil you stand on is supposedly the safest place to be, but the earth moves and shakes unapologetically, taking down all that towers above it. Have you had moments where what you built and stood for crumbled to the ground mercilessly, and you were left to pick up what had been destroyed? Could you have stopped it from breaking even if you couldn't prevent it from happening?

HERA – Life is a journey traversed through both familiar roads and unpaved paths. These journeys can be literal expeditions and long travels to be in new places, and for some, it is a long-winded path to a less physical but equally beautiful destination. Write a letter about your travels to your past self, who was yet to begin their long journey just to get to where you are now. Thank them, thank yourself.

HESTIA – Transparency is the lesser mentioned but equally important partner of communication as a key aspect of negotiation and bureaucracy. Is there ever a time when you or somebody else had twisted the truth or altered the manner in which to express it to raise the chances in your favour, or has somebody else done it against you? Do you think it was worth it to do so?

DEMETER – Abundance is never ensured or constant, and there will be inevitable periods of darkness and drought where one feels as if they are losing everything and gaining nothing at the same time. Whenever you are hopeless and feel as if nothing good will ever replenish all that you have lost, there are reasons as to why you're still here despite it. What or who are these reasons that stayed even when all else has vanished from you?

ARES – Respect for another person's inborn dignity is respect for human life and existence. Most of us attempt to be gracious and polite to preserve the dignity of others. Ignoring your own, and therefore disrespecting yourself, is not an exception to the rule. How many times in the past six months, up to a year ago, have you shamed yourself, been self-deprecating, and been cruel to yourself?

HEPHAESTUS – As much as our passions and specialties fuel us, there will be inevitable times when burnout exists. In periods of creative rut and artistic block, even the greatest artisans feel as if nothing they create is good enough. In the worst cases, these periods may last so long and so painfully that they stop altogether. If you are still a creative now, how do you get over these artistic dry spells? If you've given up and dropped an art form, is there still an ember of passion within you, or has it truly died out?

ATHENA – Intellect is not merely measured by academic excellence or the ability to quickly solve a problem on paper with genius skill. It also involves displaying a deep understanding of concepts and experiences, and the ability to apply learnings in profound ways. What are the greatest realizations, revelations, or life lessons you have had in the past year? Do you think understanding these has made you a smarter person about your life, or at the very least more aware?

APHRODITE – Passion and love are forces with no morality, only power. When harnessed healthily, these can fuel perseverance, healing, improvement, and even renewal. When left uncontrolled and unsupervised, they can quickly corrupt and turn irrational as fast as they can influence. Are you somebody who allows themself to be thoroughly ruined by its intensity, or do you attempt to rein it in as much as you can help it?

APOLLON – The excess of anything good becomes bad, and the indulgence in something seemingly beneficial can be blinding. Potent medication is administered with specific doses for a reason. And many good things in life are not meant to be had all at one time, though it is undeniably irresistible. Do you have any guilty pleasures or vices that you struggle with working on or experiencing, and are you aware of their long-term effects on you? Do you still take care of yourself regardless of or because of it?

ARTEMIS – Many people look down on others for reasons they cannot prevent, deny, or remove from themselves. Race, gender, sexuality, conditions, you name it, and some people feel the need to belittle those who are different from others. If you are not part of these minorities, or if you are somebody who experiences some forms of discrimination, how do you advocate and fight for yourself and those who are alienated by others?

DIONYSUS – Merely realizing the utter chaos and clamor of life can render even the most well-adjusted individuals in society to develop an existential crisis that uproots their motivations and reasons for being. In this ever-changing, ever maddening, potentially meaningless existence we live in modern day life, how do you keep grounded to reality, experiencing it, shaping this reality to be distinctly suited and meaningful to you?

HERMES – Luck is a leap of faith, and you never know which side of the probability you will end up having. There are times when the world leaves us no opportunity to choose wisely, and we are thrown into a fit of quick decision-making that may or may not end in catastrophe. Usually, they do end up horribly, but on the rare occasions that chance is on your side, recall a time you made a reckless, potentially dangerous, and non-advisable decision that, by a stroke of luck, ended better than expected. Would you ever dare do it again with the same stakes at hand?

A Guide to Greek Alphabet Divination (Runes)

As many may already know, Runes are a popular form of divination in order to communicate with the gods! However, aside from the popular Norse runes (elder futhark) that everyone might be aware of, did you know that there’s also a form of “rune casting divination” for the Greek alphabet?

First found inscribed in Olympos, a city in ancient Lycia, the Greek alphabet divination system uses the 24 letters from the Greek language and assigns them meanings, and based on what rune you pull, can give you advice from the gods on your current situation!

There were many Alphabet Oracles in ancient Greece, and the idea of reading the Greek alphabet for signs of the gods is one of the oldest divination methods that we know of.

How do I create my “runes?” 

To create your runes, any way of making them works! Historically, they would be painted onto pottery shards, but any way you can think of to have them accessible to throw/draw is completely okay. I have personally used black stones with gold paint on them.

You create one piece per letter, and in total there will be 24. Each letter will be listed and elaborated on later on in the post!

I’ve made my alphabet set. How do I use them?

In order to call upon the Theoi to get an answer, you can firstly call upon them in an invocation. After you have called upon them or asked your gods to give you an answer (sometimes no formal structure is needed) you can reach into a bag which contains the letters and pull out one at a time and read that, or you can grab them and throw them and look for patterns or groups of letters that are clumped together. 

THE LETTER MEANINGS

Α - Alpha - “The God Apollo [Apollon] says you will do everything successfully.” With his luck and good fortune, the current thing you are working on will turn out well and you will be the leader of your situation and have good transactions with others.

Β - Beta - “With the help of Tyche, you will have an assistant [Boêthos], who is the Pythian Apollon.” You might be at a time in your life where you’re struggling, but this divine-coded letter tells you that the gods that you worship are going to help you soon, so the signs you get might be more prophetic in nature. 

Γ - Gamma - “Gaia [Gê] will give you the ripe fruit of your labors.” It is time for you to take a break and admire the hard work you have put in. Gaia will reward you, and you will have abundance in happiness, emotional fulfillment, food, or all of the above. 

Δ - Delta - “In customs inopportune strength [Dunamis] is weak.” Timing is everything. Wait for the right time to act, and do not act to hastily. Wait for your time, but at the same time, use your strength for good to make a change in your situation.

Ε - Epsilon - “You desire [Eraô] to see the offspring of righteous marriages.” You need to surround yourself with good friendships, romances, allies, or relationships in general in order to get the most out of it. Surround yourself with positive people or situations to bring yourself up in a righteous way.

Ζ - Zeta - “Flee the very great storm [Zalê], lest you be hindered in some way.” If you’re already struggling, know when to pick your battles. Sometimes flight is better than fight, and only you know your own limitations. 

Η - Eta - “Bright Helios [Hêlios], who watches everything, watches you.” Helios knows that in the past you feel like you have been wronged. As the enforcer of oaths and promises, if you are honest with yourself and the situation the truth will come out and you will be aided.

Θ - Theta - “You have the helping Gods [Theoi] of this path.” If you are taking a plan of action do not worry! The Gods are guiding your way and you are in good hands. 

Ι - Iota - “There is sweat [’idrôs]; it excels more than everything.” Within your situation, there is going to be a lot of work. The gods recommend you buckle down and work as hard as you can, and it will not be easy. But it will be worth it.

Κ - Kappa - “To fight with the waves [Kuma] is difficult; endure, friend.” Now is not the time. You should wait until the vicious waves die down, and then take action.

Λ - Lambda - ““The one passing on the left [Laios] bodes well for everything.” Something that may seem really bad currently or in the future is actually going to turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Pay attention to your intuition!

Μ - Mu - “It is necessary to labor [Mokhtheô], but the change will be admirable.” You might feel distressed right now and that nothing is going right. But keep working to change either your situation or yourself, and the results will be in your favour.

Ν - Nu - ““The strife-bearing [Neikêphoros] gift fulfils the oracle.” Something will be given to you and enter your life. While it might not be obvious at first, this is the first domino in a line of changes that will happen in your life and make prophecy come true. 

Ξ - Xi - “There is no fruit to take from a withered [Xêros] shoot.” Being bitter and angry is not the way to go about things. Don’t keep trying to pull water out of a well that is empty, and know when to let go. 

Ο - Omicron - “There are no [Ou] crops to be reaped that were not sown.” In order to get things out of the situation, you have to plan ahead. What goes around comes around. 

Π - Pi - “Completing many [Polus] contests, you will seize the crown.” After many trials, you will achieve your goal. Persistence will give you your rewards, and do not be afraid to use your talents. 

Ρ - Rho - “You will go on more easily [Rhaion] if you wait a short time.” You should act, and quickly. Now is the best time and waiting longer is not a good idea. The stars are aligned and while it not be easy, there is no better time than the present. 

Σ - Sigma - “Phoibos Apollon speaks plainly [Saphôs], ‘Stay, friend.’” The gods want to inform you to wait for more information before you make any decisions. In this time, relax, and let the signs come to you.

Τ - Tau - “You will have a parting from the [Tôn] companions now around you.” Soon, people in your life might not stay the way they are. Friends might leave or enemies might leave. You might grow apart or distance or travel might force you away. Be wary of this, and act accordingly. 

Υ - Upsilon - “The affair holds a noble undertaking [Yposkhesis].” The task at hand is certainly a grand one, but with confidence, you, the hero of your own story, can pull through. You must acknowledge your strength, but also acknowledge the size of the task. 

Φ - Phi - “Having done something carelessly [Phaulos], you will thereafter blame the Gods.” Something is going wrong, and you may be trying to blame other things than the cause of the problem. Don’t resort to pointing fingers. The Gods will help you if you do not take out your anger on them or others needlessly. 

Χ - Khi - “Succeeding, friend, you will fulfill a golden [Khruseos] oracle.” Luck is on your side, and by mere chance, things might fall into place. The answer is positive, and you might be pleasantly surprised at all the riches that the world gives you in addition to your solution.

Ψ - Psi - “You have this righteous judgment [Psêphos] from the Gods.” Truth will be brought forwards, so be careful in your actions. The Gods are watching, and they will be fair, honest, and unforgiving to those who deserve it. This includes those who might be harming you, as well.

Ω - Omega - “You will have a difficult [Ômos] harvest season, not a useful one.” The times will be rough, and you will not get what you wish for at the end. You also might be forced to make tough decisions that you are not ready to make.

Theoi Info Sheets Series Part 5: Aphroditê

"Moisa, tell me the deeds of golden Aphrodite... who stirs up sweet passion in the gods and subdues the tribes of mortal men and birds that fly in air and all the many creatures that the dry land rears, and all the sea..."

Aphroditê, to me, is Goddess of more than just love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Lady Aphroditê, born of the severed phallus of Ouranos, is a transgender goddess in form and also function. I believe She is the mother and creator of transgender and non-binary humans (this is partially cannon in myth, as She is the mother of Hermaphroditus).

Growing up, I saw Lady Aphroditê portrayed as a vapid, sexual, and self-centered entity; and for many years I never gave those portrayals a second thought. However, since I began my journey into Hellenic Polytheism I have come to revere Aphroditê as a honored member of my personal pantheon. Aphroditê has helped me with self-love, self-image, and sexual intimacy. She has helped me fully embrace the complex relationship I have with masculinity and femininity - and has also helped to guide me towards better understanding my gender.

Lady Aphroditê has helped me heal, grow, and evolve - and for that I am eternally grateful.

I implore any trans/enby Hellenic Polytheists to not overlook Aphroditê in their worship - she is so much more than the portrayals we all grew up consuming.

My trip with demonolatry and Prince Vassago

I have always been interested in demons, the occult and all those things that orthodox Christianity, the religion of my country, would absolutely detest. And so, despite my long time interest, I never really attempted to come into contact with all of that. Despite not believing in the Christian God since my early teens, the cultural aspects of my vaguely Christian upbringing (vaguely because my family treated all Christian beliefs and practices as a given, as tradition, or as ethnic customs, since none of us were heavily religious) still didn't allow for a very small amount of taboo things.

And so, even if I didn't believe in it, the cultural upbringing I had made demonolatry taboo. I was scared of what it would mean. Socially? I would be a pariah if someone knew. The thought of doing something 'wrong' teared me apart. But I was also scared this would mean I *did* believe in the Christian religion after all, something that just didn't sit right with me. It took a lot to convince myself to actually explore that part of my worship.

When I finally sat down, determined to worship a demon, I did so much research, read so many books and tried to take the best, non-appropriative approach. At the time, I also wanted to further my divination skills as well, and that's where prince Vassago comes in.

Some basic facts about him;

He's recorded in Solomon's Lesser Key, he's the third entry, he is a Prince. He is said to be of good nature, and of the same nature as Agares. He presides over all things lost and hidden, over the past and the future.

...and that's about all of canon info we have on him! Of course, people have recorded their experiences, but it's hard to discern what's UPG and what is SPG. But I thought I'd challenge myself and go forth with discovering who he is, at least how he appears to me on my own.

What I have learnt so far is he is of good nature; the first time I attempted contact and meditated with him, I had an immediate image of a smiling man. Furthermore, his energy was still quite strong, as I've seen many demonolaters say about infernals. So, don't mistake his good nature for any lesser (also note; this doesn't imply other demonic entities are inherently bad!).

Another thing I've come to find out, at least in my practice, he is somewhat particular about what kind of divination method he wants me to use. He will toss me absolute gibberish if he doesn't enjoy the method, or will just mess up my shuffling with irl cards. Furthermore, he is quite secretive, at least when he speaks with me. He won't just tell me everything I wish to know and I've been often told 'I'll tell you when I wish to," or something along those lines. That's a tad frustrating when you're literally trying to find out things about him— symbols, associations I could use, and the like. However I've been learning to be patient, accepting no with no frustration and moving past things.

Another thing that is entirely UPG, is I associate him with garden roses— specifically the green kind, but he said all roses are okay and if he were to choose one, it'd be green (note; I do divination via cards and other means, so he didn't say those things directly, but that could be inferred after 30-40 mins pestering him about what it all meant). I was looking for a flower to symbolise him with, and he pointed me towards that.

Overall, I've yet to learn a lot about Prince Vassago. It is a reminder that he is a very old being and I've only been worshipping him since October. He is very patient, which I am. His presence is also very vivid to me — as someone who usually doesn't feel shit and only have my faith as an anchor and a guide — and I've taken it as a sign of good favour. I can only hope to hone my practice into so much more over time and to grow our bond.

keep in mind that typical offerings to any god includes meat, wine, honey, and incense (myrrh and frankincense would be period appropriate), but i'm listing some specific offerings that can be given if you'd like

colors can be used for candles, banners, decor, whatever you want

HADES

Colors: black, red, and white for association with death. purple and metallics for association with riches/wealth

Offerings: mint, asphodel, white poplar, pomegranate, coffee, cinnamon, elm, money, chocolate

Crystals: gemstones, black crystals (obsidian, black tourmaline, smokey quartz, etc.), pyrite, hematite, labradorite

PERSEPHONE
