Today I had two friends tag me in a photo of them with the hashtag '#20beatutifulwomenchallenge,' which I understand is a compliment, and my friends just encouraging me to embrace my own beauty by posting a picture of myself that I feel shows my beauty. Unfortunately I struggled with this, because I have been struggling for a while with how I want to identify as a person, but most of the time I don't feel that I am just the female gender. Every morning I wake up not knowing how I'm going to want to express myself that day. My gender changes from day to day- therefore I have chosen the identity of gender fluid, and this is essentially why I am struggling with being involved in this new Instagram hashtag. (Along with my desire to deconstruct the institutionalized ideology of beauty, but that's a whole other post.) I am not woman or man alone, but I experience many variations of gender, which evolve day to day. I am gender fluid, and I am proud of this. Beauty comes in many forms. The hashtag should be #20beautifulpeoplechallenge.
