Said i was gonna elaborate on my Rod/Impala XIII headcanons the other day and NEVER DID so here's what I got today:
- They met as kids and basically grew up together. Impala XIII was rather reserved, and admired how brave and apologetically himself Rod was. How can one be that confident ALL the time?? amazing
- The two became fast friends, and Impala XIII gets caught up (willingly lol) in a lot of Rod's shenanigans when they were younger. This gets him in trouble with his parents quite a bit.
- Impala XIII actually struggled hard with his own self-confidence a lot, and was rather aloof. He had trouble believing in himself. He learned all that from being with Rod, who by comparison is much more outgoing and self-assured.
- Rod is the only one who knows Impala XIII's real name (and will take it to his grave. ;} )
- i'm feelin very Unhinged Daredevil (Rod) and his more Reasonable and Level-headed partner in crime (Impala XIII) for these two...chaotic, but they mean well
- Neither of their parents were that great. They spent more time away from their respective homes then they'd probably care to admit. Rod was raised by a single father + his grandmother. Impala XIII's parents are divorced.
- Rod was the only one who really encouraged Impala XIII towards his goals of becoming an Autonaut. "Ya know what they say; 'If the sky's the limit, it only makes sense to keep going up.'" "I'm sure you added a few bits to that sentiment, but thanks bud."
- They grow kinda distant once Rod is "deployed". He was the one friend Impala XIII had to confide in his insecurities and hopes with. He's real messed up about not having Rod's presence around to kinda ground him when he gets too in his head.
- Rod sends him letters and calls frequently. Sometimes it's silly (mis) happenings in his day-to-day. Sometimes it's motivational snippets for Impala XIII. Sometimes it's Rod confiding in insecurities of his own.
- Impala XIII has to talk Rod out of brawls often. Rod's rather hot-headed and doesn't always know when to hold his tongue OR back down from a challenge. Impala XIII has to play mediator A LOT. It's entertaining, really. Except when Rod gets dented up pretty bad.
- Both of them are smart. Very smart. Maybe too smart. But not smart enough to deal with the intricacies of Emotional Constipation. These two have a harder time being completely honest with each other as they get older after Rod becomes more involved in spy work
- Rod's rather protective of him. Often uses himself as a "shield" of sorts in tense situations. It's become a habit that Impala XIII definitely notices, but doesn't comment on 👀
