I can’t think of a more beautifully minimalistic way to drive this point home.

A minimal wedding cake doesn’t have to mean no pretty and no flowers. Sometimes it’s just reducing the traditional elements to their simplest forms. Take these wedding cakes. The cake itself is plain, combining unadorned tiers with a single tier featuring vertical grooves. No puffy or intricate icing blobs. Then the white flowers, which provide an opulent and romantic texture juxtaposed against cakes that would otherwise seem uninspired and austere. Sans serif tone-on-tone font gives the option for personalization without disturbing the calm and elegant beauty of the cake itself.

One of the little-known tenets of luxury minimalism is that it needn't be the domain of giant spaces. Take this perfect, small, quietly lavish entryway, for example.

The door is to the left, and we can see from the reflection in the mirror that the entryway is not large and blends into other rooms. This vignette is likely only around 4' x 5' wide.

But, no matter. It's what the designer did with that area.

Its sumptuous details lie in the elegant lines and proportions, the play of sheens and textures, the quality of the materials, the selection and placement of the shapes, and the pattern-matching of the marble floor, which you can see faintly on in the mirror on the right-hand side.

The Il Pezzo Mancante 12 Round dropped pendant lights provide a surprise in its beautiful yet almost alien-like form; the matte gold metal canopy sitting at the opposite extreme of the stool's silver metal mixes to pick up the grey and tan nuances of the marble flawlessly. The bronze metallic vase in the middle leans silver and gold, creating mysterious tension.

The photo stylist's decision to include this classic pair of stilettos not only echos the black mirror frame and the grooves of the acoustic panel but supports the fluffy dried grasses in the vase, an ode to the feminine.

I'm sure it is a sanctuary of tranquility. It certainly makes me feel this way, whispering "Welcome home" with an air of indulgence, simplicity, and joyous calm.

This stunning structure is the Florida Polytechnic University designed by “starchitect” Santiago Calatrava, and had been on my “to see” list for a while now. Here are my photos from my visit.

Jaw-dropping, futuristic, minimal, organic, uplifting, and oddly comforting, its soaring frond-like arches feel like an airy spatial embrace. Perhaps a small influence from M.C. Escher’s “Architecture?” Calatrava is known for this beautiful modern architecture style, simplistic in lines yet complex in construction.

Inside, polished concrete floors and white curvilinear walls are both practical and beautiful, and the encircling “moat” surrounding the building is stocked with aquatic life, landscapes with palm trees, and lush lawns.

The lounge up the stairs from the main entrance’s furniture gives LeCorbusier LC2 feels, surely an intentional nod.

It’s a rare talent that can envision concrete and steel elevated into such an incredible lightness of being. No wonder Santiago Calatrava’s designs set my heart a-flutter.

I've been enamored by the Kou "Fireworks" chandelier for years now. It really does look like fireworks reduced to the most minimalistic expression with its unassuming glow. The smooth, shiny white sculptural bone china arms give it a look of quiet radiance whether it's off or on.
