NEWSPAPERs!!!!!!!!!! Newspapers to me are a great source of knowledge though there is nothing new to this but the fact remains that they are indeed great providers of knowledge to us. I believe that if one develops the habit of reading a newspaper it can end up being one of those that they can treasure in their life. I really like reading stuff and enjoy it a lot unless it has interesting news to provide and I’m very much amused that I haven’t yet opted for a newspaper at home and this assignment may help me to continue this habit of reading newspapers regularly and also select one of them to get issued everyday at home.
My early experience of Newspapers was during my High School as my school used to issue THE DECCAN HERALD newspaper to us every day and the first thing I remember doing was to look for the sports page and then would just glance through the sports page and would end it up as we could read the newspaper for about 5-10 minutes in the break and the rest of the reading had to be done at home, so this was my first connection with the NEWSPAPER. My style of reading the newspaper remains the same even today I always open the sports page first as I love cricket and then read one of those trending stories or the stories that have been the talk of the town and then look for the supplements and checked on for articles.
We have never bought newspapers at home just because of the simple reason that there is no time left in the morning to read a newspaper and in the evening all are busy at doing their own stuff or watching television. Lately my father has started reading the Kannada newspaper UDAYAWANI and also has got it issued issued everyday at home, when asked why this particular newspaper he told me that he has been reading this edition whenever he and his friends meet up for a cup of tea in the morning near his workplace and feels more comfortable reading it and also told me that they have a good coverage of politics and I could understand why as my father is very much interested in politics. So the Kannada newspaper UDAYAWANI is the one which we get regularly at home. Since I can read and write the language (Kannada) I end up most often than not reading the paper I directly go to the sports column then flip a few pages backwards were I find the daily horoscope and then they have the BALCONY section which covers bollywood and sandalwood movies and then read through the VISHESHA section which means special it covers the latest trending and special news and then just have a glance at the paper, the VIJAYAWANI usually has many catchy lines for the different stories they print so I stop at the one which attracts me and then read through the piece. With every edition they have a supplement which gives all the details of various bollywood, sandalwood, kollywood and tollywood movies being screened for the day in Bangalore ,the theatres in which they are screened and their timings. The most fascinating part of UDAYAWANI is that they have a special supplement edition for everyday of the week that is for Monday they have the AISIRI ,for TUESDAY its JOSH, Wednesday its AVALU, Thursday its BAHUMUKA ,Friday its SUCHITRA, Saturday its I LOVE BENGALURU and finally for Sunday its SAPTHAHIKA SAMPADHA.
I read a piece on how it’s been 100 years since the first WORLD WAR and how Indians also have been a part of it. I then in the sports section I read that Shreyasi Singh of India has won silver medal in women’s double trap shooting in the Common Wealth games and in men’s India had won bronze. In the special edition AISIRI which deals with articles relating to saving income and there’s a section for new ideas which speaks of newly discovered stuff around the world and then there is a section for interior designing with images of beautiful and furnished homes along with it, there are office jokes printed and there was a satire on the boss’s which was quite funny and there is also a section for agriculture which speaks of farming and new technology used in farming and articles on farmers and I read one which told the story of a farmer named Bassawanna Gowda who ploughed and also sold his vegetables all by himself, so the special edition AISIRI contains all these sections every Monday.

In the special edition AVALU which is completely for female readers as everything is for women starting from section which provides steps to make natural facepacks, then there is section called RUCHIGE THAKASTU were recipes are provided there was a recipe on masala chai which I thought was quite easy to make and there is a section for providing fitness tips and a section called MAKEUP where a images of cosmetics and designer outfits and information about them are provided, there is a column containing short stories which also is female oriented the story I read was very funny and interesting about the relationship shared between mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law.
