There is legitimately nothing that brings me more joy than seeing a handful of notes on this blog, opening them up, and seeing that one person has clearly read their way through several stories and enjoyed them.

Also, the main reason I’ve been away for so long is that I’ve been writing a lot of smut and don’t know if this is the right place to put it. So it’s just living on my computer for the time being.

Pairing: Clint Barton x Reader

Content/Warnings: Soulmate AU, description of injuries

Description: In a world where soulmates share injuries and bruises, Clint finds himself covered in injuries that look like they came from fights he was never in.

A/N: Sorry I’ve been away for a million years! I can’t promise to be back posting consistently, but I found this WIP in an old journal and was inspired to work on it. Please let me know if you’d like to read the rest!

Clint was getting worried. He had always felt bad for you. Carrying his bruises your whole life, from his father to the circus to crime and heroism alike. Suddenly, though, he had more of yours than his own. 

It started when he woke up with a black eye a week ago. Usually he found normal bruises from you. A stubbed toe, a bumped knee, nothing concerning. But the black eye was followed by a dark patch over his ribs, then hand prints around his throat. He feared abuse, not thinking of any other reason this could have started so suddenly. 

But then he developed bruises across his knuckles, then his elbows, as though he had been striking something repeatedly. The injuries didn’t add up to abuse, but fighting. 

Clint’s anxiety had been rising for days, but this realization sent him over the edge. That’s how he found himself in front of Steve’s apartment at 4 am on a Monday.

The door opened with the second knock. 

“Barton?” Steve’s voice was concerned. “Barton, what are you doing here?”

When Clint didn’t answer Steve grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him inside. 

Sitting on the couch, Clint held out his bruised right hand rather than speaking. Steve’s eyebrows pulled together. Clint unzipped his hoodie to show the fading handprints on his throat and the elbow bruises. 

Steve waited.

“They aren’t mine.” His voice broke, as he’d feared it would. “Something is wrong, I know it is.”

tony: no, I know, but you're the only PA I've had for this long and you deserve it. now what can I get you

I love this scene for the pure fact that despite his self-hatred tendencies, Tony knows exactly what he can contribute here. He just went through the shittiest couple of years of his life, and this guy is trying to tell him he’s not worth it ? Okay, boomer. That’s nice. Tony was, is, and will always be the first official Avenger in the infinity saga. He’s the heart of it, and at least in this one moment, he knew it, too.
