Why CanātĀ āWeā Live Happily Ever After, Too?Ā (Ronald Forsythe, New York Times; Feb 23, 1969)
There is no stronger energy I want in my life than what this is handing out.
gonna sound bitchy but randomly pairing eliot off with someone after seasons of queerbaiting makes me more madāeven though im glad he got a somewhat happy endingāsince it felt lacking of genuine build up and connection that Q would have brought to the finale
If you ever need to ask why I love Eliot Waugh so much, look no further, because itās all right here:
This is mainly about The Magicians, but it applies to a lot of sff shows - I'll just never understand that writers for a fantasy show are more interested in the anyone can die narrative than the anyone can live narrative.
i call this comic āThe Reunion We Never Got But Yearned Forā
Venting About 'The Magicians' Cancellation

Did the writers and producers not know this was going to happen? Seriously?
They took a gamble (pun fucking intended, bitches), screwed what was an amazing show full of potential and wonder into the ground, and expected people to, what, fall all over themselves to watch it? Praise killing off a character that was:
A.) canonically suffering from crippling depression and suicidal thoughts
B.) canonically a LGBT character
C.) An openingly bisexual character
D.) lives through the entire book series the show is based off of
There are lessons here, folks.
1.) Know. Your. Audience.
This is a fantasy show that people watch to escape real life. People relate to Quentin Coldwater's struggles with depression. A large portion of the show's demographic consists of LGBT people. All of these things are clues as to not killing off the magic and fantasy loving LGBT character that suffers from suicidal thoughts. People might not watch your show anymore because they no longer trust you or your storytelling. Just FYI.
2.) The "burying your gays" trope is not "new", "edgy", or "innovative". It is awful and people are so tired of it. By going that route, you show yourself to be a lazy writer, you have alienated your audience, AND just told LGBT viewers that you don't see LGBT relationships having a happy ending.
3.) Fanfiction writers and artists have your back. The show might have gone to shit, but it lives on through the fans. Make new art. Keep the good stuff alive.
4.) Don't blame the actors. They are just as much victims as the fans are. They are losing a job that could have last so much longer. Give them all of your love and support. Follow them on Twitter. Check out their new stuff. We still love them.
I am still going to be writing fic for this fandom. I love you all, and it is my home. My conviction is even stronger now. We fanfiction artists will make damn sure that Quentin Coldwater and the rest of the characters get the happy endings they deserve.
God bless fanfiction!
Difficult to know exactly how to feel.
On one hand, Iām sure the cast was prepared for this and it is in no way surprising. On the other hand, I know a lot of the crew (and I imagine the cast) is pretty bitter about the way the last season and a half of this show was kamikazeād into oblivion by the writers and Sera + John.Ā
Iām sad because when it was good it was great. Iām sad because I fucking adore this world and the characters in it and this beautiful cast. Iām sad because I feel like I just got here.
But Iām also relieved.
Iām gonna miss this dumbass show. I feel like everyone has been in indefinite mourning for a year now and at least there finally is an end in sight. I hope all the best for the cast and canāt wait to see what they do next, and all the best for the crew here in Vancouver that are out a job today.
One lastĀ āfuck youā to Sera Gamble and John McNamara. May they never be handed the opportunity to do this to another show again forever and ever amen.
Endless thank yous to the cast for working and playing and loving so hard throughout the seriesā run.
Endless fuck yous to the showrunners, you absolutely did this to yourselves, may you swallow your egos long enough to fucking learn something from it.Ā
The Magicians is officially cancelled. Iām honestly so relieved. The show couldnāt and shouldnāt go on without Quentin.
Thank you to the amazing cast, you are all amazing!
Sera Gamble and John McNamara, you still suck.
The executive producers explain why it makes sense to bring the enchanting drama in for a landing now.
