This is a big problem for you, isn't it? Well... If they've been distant, it doesn't mean they're angry with you, so to speak. Did you two fight recently? If that's the case, then he probably just doesn't know how to get rid of the awkward atmosphere.

If you're certain that this person in question's upset, then they might be, and just won't admit it. In that situation, I think you should try and confront him directly! If he's close to you, he can't lie to you! That's just not right, and it's just ending with the two of you being upset, right?
