no. 1: Black Messiah by D’Angelo and The Vanguard #top10albums2014
this album came in late in the game, but I’m glad i waited some time to decide on my fave album. the relevance of 1000 Deaths added to the attraction, but overall a stellar album. welcome back, D’Angelo.

well hello 80’s!! TWOD reminds me of cheesy eighties rock (think Springstein, Bryan Adams) but in a good way. and this album is just a breathe of (nostalgic) fresh air.

with my love for everything-DFA-records, you know at least one of them’s going to end up in my year-end list. if i can’t have LCD Soundsystem, Pat Mahoney will do. it is a fairly tight album - and easy to sneak into any DJ playlist.

no. 10: Morning Phase by Beck #top10albums2014
to be honest, I could think of a handful of other albums better than Morning Phase released this year - but I like surprises. it may not be as impactful, or as good as his previous work, but i like that he constantly changes things up. besides six years was too long a wait since Modern Guit.

This album is my top pick for 2013 for one reason alone - it made me dance. I'm picky with this sorta music (dance music doesn't figure much in my playlist), and this one's pure class. Thanks Disclosure, for making me dance in 2013!

no. 2: Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend #top10albums2013
Definitely my favourite of all the Vampire Weekend albums - it’s darker, more mature, more vulnerable. The track ‘Hannah Hunt’ won me over at first listen, and had me listening to the whole album over and over again.

To a self-proclaimed Arcade Fire fan, my list for the year will not be complete without it. I love this band to pieces, and I love how they continually surprise us with their music. A lot of things have been said about the band, and they've been scrutinised as they gain massive popularity (but really for a band well-loved by Bowie and Murphy, that says a lot, eh?) but I've adored them since Funeral. We have still to give them props for making a name for themselves in a Rihanna-infested music scene. I love them. I just do.

no. 5: Cupid Deluxe by Blood Orange #top10albums2013
This album came late in the game, but am I glad it made it in time for the new year. Have been playing this non-stop for a month now and Dev Hynes' solo project is such a gem. Sampled here is my fave track from the album remixed by one of my fave DFA artists Holy Ghost!

You know it. We waited 17 years for this and aren't we glad it didn't disappoint. To one of the most anticipated sophomore albums in our lifetime, hooray for making the year a little more interesting.

If you're into 80's post-punk, you know what I mean how this band reminds me of Siouxsie and the Banshees (oh and how we loved them!). This album was so refreshing to hear at this time, and the tracks are all pretty tight. I can just imagine how good they are live.
