― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Idiot
Cathy Park Hong, from "Spring and All"
“Some periods of our growth are so confusing that we don’t even recognize that growth is happening. We may feel hostile or angry or weepy and hysterical, or we may feel depressed. It would never occur to us, unless we stumbled on a book or a person who explained to us, that we were in fact in the process of change, of actually becoming larger, spiritually, than we were before. Whenever we grow, we tend to feel it, as a young seed must feel the weight and inertia of the earth as it seeks to break out of its shell on its way to becoming a plant. Often the feeling is anything but pleasant. But what is most unpleasant is the not knowing what is happening. Those long periods when something inside ourselves seems to be waiting, holding its breath, unsure about what the next step should be, eventually become the periods we wait for, for it is in those periods that we realize that we are being prepared for the next phase of our life and that, in all probability, a new level of the personality is about to be revealed.”
— Alice Walker
May we never be our daughter’s first enemy.
remember 2001-2004 though???!? remember windows xp and kerrang and neopets and shrek being a big deal and beyblades and ps2 skating/snowboarding games and “i believe in a thing called love” and flash video sites and avril lavigne and wearing chains on jeans and t.A.T.u. and seeing LOTR and PotC in cinemas and how every boy looked like reese from malcolm in the middle
meet me in my dreams tonight and stay there for a while
if my bones must age, i pray they do so with you.

“To touch a heart, somewhere in the world, only externally, only gently, like the night wind from the sea, like the sudden feeling, of being human.”
— Rudolf Henz, tr. by Beth Bjorklund, from “Meditation at Seventy,” (via weltenwellen)
will you follow me through the doubt, or will i be left to shatter my hesitation alone? either way, do what must be done. it was not companionship that made me a survivor.
Noor Shirazie, Into the Wildfire: Battle Scars (via noorshirazie)
i prayed for you on nights i didn’t even pray for myself
2017 taught me a self-governing way of life. I know my own anatomy, and my own anatomy knows me. 2017 didn’t dust or do the laundry, it didn’t call my parents or finish that book, those are the things I did for myself. 2017 spoke on behalf of Love, who apologised for being so volatile.
