#Repost @itsjustjeriel with @repostapp. ・・・ Welcome to another year and another Black History Month! During this month we should take time to learn about the contributions from our Black American men and women. Our learning should cover civil arts to technology to music to science etc. Today lets turn the spotlight on Detroit's own, J Dilla. Most hip hop and soul musicians or enthusiasts are aware of his musical contributions, but to the average listener you're probably unaware that many of your favorite soul infused hip hop records were created by him. Once a member of Slum Village then strictly producer to many such as, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Common, D'Angelo, Dwele, etc. Sometimes we normally focus on those in front of the camera and we forget the geniuses on the other side. Sadly Dilla left this world far too soon, but his creations and influence will live forever. I guarantee that there's someone in a basement or a silent room perfecting their production similar to that of J. One in particular is @themelvinthomas...a Memphis bred artist who has been heavily inspired by Dilla and who's work such as, "Candid," prove how influential Mr. Yancey has been. @themelvinthomas has prepared a tribute of weekly musical releases to pay homage to the life and death of J Dilla in a project perfectly titled, #dillaseries #jdilla
