I don’t want to be the person you think of at 3 a.m. when you’re lonely. I want to be the person you think of at 3 p.m. in the middle of a stressed out day, when you need peace.

praying
Pray for Mizzou. Pray for Kenya. Pray for Paris. Pray for Baghdad. Pray for Yale. Pray for Mexico. Pray for Beirut. Pray for Japan. Pray for _______.
The list is growing, Lord. I don’t want to fight about whose pain is more deserving, Lord. I don’t want to craft the oppression one sided, Lord. I want to be a loud prayer in a still room. I want to offer the wreckage a place to fade. I want what love can only guide. I want what safety can only ensure. That these prayers will find us when we need it most. Lord, we need it most.
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human. It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!” It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

sending light and love across the globe. i am sorry, my heart hurts for you.
Ha, I wish
Here’s to all the hearts that didn’t make it home. All the hearts left on someone else’s doorstep On street corners and calloused hands In gutters with broken glass, Under unmade beds and moving boxes back pockets and subway seats, An unchecked lost and found. All the hearts still crying for a chance, Orphan hearts Transient hearts Hearts that never meant to be drifters, but always caught the wrong wind.

You are fierce. You’re a survivor. You’re a fighter through and through. Little brave, breathe. There is a warrior within you.

It is okay to be at a place of struggle. Struggle is just another word for growth. Even the most evolved beings find themselves in a place of struggle now and then. In fact, struggle is a sure sign to them that they are expanding; it is their indication of real and important progress. The only one who doesn’t struggle is the one who doesn’t grow. So if you are struggling right now, see it as a terrific sign — and celebrate your struggle.

I practiced patience, through the testing of it all. I practice it still.
