Sofia opened her parasol and held it overhead. "I wonder if there's FIRE in the Vale today." She thought aloud to no one in particular. She wore her regular attire, used to the cold weather present to the north.

She looked over to the man exiting the inn, his attire seemed suitable for someone who had never visited the northern mining areas. "You ready then?"

"I wonder if there's FIRE in the Vale today."

"Well..." Gray's posture shifted into a much more relaxed one once more, the corners of his mouth quirking up a little. "If what you made me dress in is anything to base off of, I'd say there's bound to be at least a little."

"So..." He glanced around. "Where's this... 'Vale' situated... anyway?"

Gray shrugged. "Seems pretty accurate... but I don't really notice the smell myself, so I wouldn't really know."

"Okay! So the Vale River! Its quite WARM there, so bundle up as necessary!" Sofia smiled, she knew better than anyone that the Vale was the coldest part of Sharence by far.

"Grab NOTHING you need! I'll wait INSIDE of the inn for you!" She bowed slightly and exited the grand hotel.

It was warm... so then, she meant it was cold, right...? Gray glanced at his attire, then at the inside of his bag, where the only thing that was suitable to fight against the cold was a rather thick jacket he had received from Kai as a Christmas present. Shrugging, he put it on before slinging the bag once more over his shoulder. It'll do.

Twirling his hammer in his hands as if it were nothing, Gray jogged outside to where Sofia was waiting, stopping just a few steps away from her before saying, "I'm ready to go."

"Can I sleep on your couch?"

… Okay, what.

Gray was not really one for sudden intrusions in the inn room he resided in, especially when he had a strong feeling it had been his sister who had let said people in without at least warning him beforehand. Still… being rude wasn’t much of an option. The man - who was, now that he thought about it, dressed differently compared to other Mineral Town residents - looked like a nice person. Looked like one.

"Ann must’ve let you in…" Gray tugged on his cap’s brim, tilting it down as an act of recognition. "But nevertheless, it’s…" It took a few seconds before he finished his sentence. "… absolutely fine. What’s… what’s your name?" Beat. "… And you do realize that you could sleep on one of the vacant beds instead, right?"

"I-I’m so sorry— I really didn’t think twice!” Vishnal said immediately. The stranger seemed a bit annoyed and Vishnal mistook the blonde’s hesitation as dreadness. He began to even go as far as bowing down in apology(also thinking too much and had missed what the stranger said about it being okay) before he was given a simple, polite question by the stranger. “My name…? Oh, m-my name is Vishnal..” The butler was glad that now the stranger was somewhat starting small talk, but still, he couldn’t help but let his mind drift off about whether the man was angry at him or not. That was until the stranger finally told him that the building he was filled with vacant beds, and it didn’t take him long to connect the dots and realize he was inside a inn. Vishnal was utterly still before he began to apologise again with “I’m so sorry!” and other alike phrases.

Gray was honestly surprised, seeing the man bowing in front of him as an apology. Clearly, this guy wasn't from around these parts. Who bows as an apology? I'm not a person of authority or anything. It's like he's... bowing to a prince... Nevertheless, he held up a hand, as if it would silence him, before being assaulted with more apologies and the like, though his name made him a little baffled. Vishnal? Definitely foreign.

"Hey, stop apologizing." Wait, no, damn it, that came out wrong. "I mean... you don't need to apologize. You didn't do anything wrong, Vishnal." The man reached out and patted the other's shoulder awkwardly, but in a reassuring manner. "... They call me Gray."

"They are actually quite RARE throughout Norad! As the name implies there ISN'T a crystal for each of the four elements- fire, water, earth, and wind. They're VALUABLE but are key parts of certain weapons and armor!" Sofia smiled.

"So where would you like to begin Mr. Gray?"

Hmm... So the elemental crystals were a common thing around the place, so they weren't exactly very notable, but... Grandpa DID say bring anything different that I find. Alright then- wait, what? Weapons and armor?

It suddenly sank in once more that Norad was leagues different compared to where he lived, and monsters, according to most of the travelers that passed by the inn, frequented the areas out of town. Weapons would indeed be necessary...

"Erm..." Gray glanced over his list again before saying, "I'd... like to go find some platinum, maybe...?"

Now this was a face that Gray was somewhat familiar with. Frequent trips to Forget-Me-Not Valley had acquainted Gray with the faces of those who resided in the valley and those who were only visitors, and hers was one of them. He had seen her in the mines a few times, but he had never actually talked to her, much less got her name.

But then again, she was, well, a she, and this was the men’s section of the inn. Not like Kai and Cliff are here, anyway. Kai’s overseas and Cliff… I don’t really know about him. "Sleep on the couch, if you want… but there are vacant beds, you know.” He glanced at the other beds before turning back to the girl standing before him. “… You’re the farmer from Forget-Me-Not, right?”

Jill looked at the man before her, he was the only somewhat familiar person she knew in Mineral Town besides a few shop owners here. She also knew he was a blacksmith, least she thought, considering she had seen him working before while taking a few quick trips into the blacksmiths shop. He seemed kind enough.

"Yeah, came all this way to mine here actually, also I’m Jill" She replied with small smile. "Sorry for barging in like this, but i really appreciate it."

"It's not much of a problem. Ann must have pointed you to here, huh?" Gray's gaze traveled over to the mining equipment sitting comfortably near the side of his bed and the small collection of tiny unusable gems and ores that he kept as mementos before gazing back at the farmer. Jill, huh... "Nice to meet you, Jill. They call me Gray."

A hand reached up to tilt his cap's brim down a little - his form of a friendly nod - before he spoke up, saying, "If you're going mining, then... let me accompany you to the mines. I know my way around them, and..." The blacksmith paused for a while before continuing, "... it's always better to have someone with you in case you pass out in the mines."

Sofia looked over the list, mapping out where to find each ore. She’d followed Gaius on a mining trip or two in the past when she was angry at her family. ‘Platinum is the Vale, aquamarine is Oddward Valley, and iron is Sol Terrano or Privera.’ She thought to herself. “Okay! We have NONE OF these in Sharence!” She smiled widely.

"We also LACK bronze, amethyst, gold, silver, sapphire, emerald, ruby, and elemental crystals!" She listed, purposefully forgetting scrap metal. As much as it pained her to remember, not everyone liked scrap metal as much as she did.

Now that Gray was painfully aware of her tendency to say the opposite of what she said, it made everything much easier to understand, which made him smile a little. Her words made the grin on his face grow just a little bigger. "Well, that's great! Fantastic even!"

At her additional notes on the subject, however, he tilted his head to the side. So Norad did have some common ores with their area. Well, that made things much easier then. Grandpa'd certainly enjoy a lot more gold and silver... and rubies too... wait, what was that last one? "Elemental... crystals? Are those unique to Sharance?"

Gray’s hammer had been sitting next to him while he had been examining a particularly large emerald that the town’s farmer had brought in for refining, so when his child had toddled up to him, calling to him, his gaze hadn’t left the emerald as he mumbled, "That’s nice, sweetheart, you’re definitely as strong as me…"

And then the hammer’s presence suddenly became nonexistent. Gray’s gaze finally trailed away from the emerald to the hammer, which was now… miraculously high above the child’s head?! Panicking, the blacksmith immediately yelled, "Oh Goddess no, sweetheart, DROP IT! DROP THE HAMMER!"

Immediately, he scooped up his daughter, clueless to her own strength, the hammer dropping to the floor as he hugged her tightly, as if fearing she would disappear. "Never, and I say NEVER, do that to daddy ever again, okay sweetheart?” Never mind that his daughter of all people somehow managed to inherit his STRENGTH of all things; he just didn’t want her to get hurt.

Papa, papa, lookit! I founda pretty stone near the mine and it's blue just like my eyes! Can I keep iiiiit? PLEAAAAASE? I'll take care of it just like I take care of everythin' I pick up that's pretty!

Gray’s own eyes drifted over to the stone the child was holding up, noting that indeed, it was similar to his child’s eye color: a lighter shade of blue. His lips curling into an affectionate smile, he ruffled his child’s hair the way he ruffled Ann’s. "Well, if you’re sure I won’t end up stepping on it somewhere, then you can keep it. Just make sure to separate your collection from your mother’s!"

“Aw, you don’t need to apologize~ Though, you do curse a lot. You should really watch your language around a lady like me!” The second part of Maya’s statement was said with a frown, but it didn’t last for long. She gently took him by the elbow to stop him then reached into her pocket to take out a handkerchief.

“Hold still!” she said, getting on her tippy toes so she could delicately dab the blood off his face. Maya tilted her head to the side to get a better angle of the wound and poked the tip of her tongue out the corner of her mouth as she focused on cleaning the scratch. She stood like that for a few moments before grinning again and stepping back.

"There we go! All better!” Maya grinned cheerfully as she stood flat on her heels.

“Guess you had to watch out for smacking into things after all, huh? Bet you’re glad I took that ruby now~” Looking down at the blood-stained cloth, she shuddered a bit and quickly slipped it into Gray’s hand.

“Ehehe, you can have this, Gray~” Maya bounded forward up the path before he had a chance to protest. Anyway, she could see buildings which meant they were getting closer to town!

“I don’t want to talk about witches and scary stuff anymore!” Maya called over her shoulder. She spotted a wooden fence that looked like it was keeping a few cows and sheep from roaming and quickly hopped onto it to get a better look at the animals and wait for Gray to catch up.
