Maybe it's the loving in your eyes
Maybe it's the magic in the wine
Maybe it's the fact that every time l fall, I lose it all
But you got me from my head to my feet
And I'm ready to dive
— dive, olivia dean
No. Definitely not. How would I ever have thought of that. You are definitely for sure the first person to recommend I hit the air conditioner to make it work.
[...] If your mom group has anything I'll take it. It's better than this subsection of hell I'm in.
[user laughs at the sarcasm, touché]
Well maybe you didn't kick it hard enough.
Fuck it
So then kick the landlord.
[user raises an eyebrow, quickly flipping back and forth between the apps, then attaches a couple links to some both reputable and questionable HVAC technicians)
Here. They recommend Cool R Us. If you call them Cheryl says to ask for Jon, no h, and that she sent you. She also said he's a "cool guy" and I don't know what that means.
What is the last song you listened to
uhhhh. so the last song I listened to was maine by noah kahan. i know, very ha ha. a little on the nose there but it helped me get accustomed to the idea of moving on the drive from Connecticut. I still listen to it somtimes. Clearly. However, Luna uses my Spotify and she was playing one of those trending TikTok songs. She's attempting to learn one of those dances. It's ridiculous but at least I can focus on some sewing in the meantime. Soooo technically that's the last thing I streamed!
Yeah, a whole crew! They really spared no expense. Clammy is cute! I'm not sure how he'd feel about the name, but it still has to be better then Lenny. Plus I'd be much more willing to hire Clammy the Pirate for a kid's party.
I'd be very curious to know what Clammy says when she tries to hire him. Who knows, maybe he's great with kids after all. Do you think he can make a balloon parrot? I think that would be a big hit. Even so, probably not worth it just to outdo Angela. (Whoever that is)
Luna is glad you agree with her and then gave me the biggest eyeroll for calling Clammy dumb. Maybe we can pitch Clammy the Pirate to Rachel. I say we because I saw your bussiness card.
[pm] Listen, I didn't want Rachel to see this part but I'm sure if you 'looked' into him for her she'd pay you a pretty penny. She's pretty easy to fool and she doesn't feel great about that. She accidentally took too long in the mirror the other day and i heard everything. I don't think she cares if you find anything I think she just wants to look the part.
Anyone know how to fix an air conditioner unit? My landlord is an asshole and isn’t answering my fucking calls, and the air it’s blowing out is biting me too fucking cold. I’ll take fixing the AC or locating my landlord and locking him in this fucking freezer of an apartment as a solution.
have you tried kicking it? your AC. not your landlord. although maybe that would work too. that works sometimes. i can probably consult the Housemoms of Wickeds Rest group for someone to help. They're 90% drama but they do have pretty solid resources.
Where have you been?
Do you know when you're comin' back?
Since you've been gone
I've got along, but I've been sad
— reflections, the neighbourhood
Walking after dark around here? I'd say that's probably not the best move, but then I'd be a hypocrite, because I do the same thing. 🤷♀️ But that's so weird. I mean I guess looting is best down in the darkness, but it looks like it'd be harder with less people around.
omg YES. yes. YESSSSS. I might have to join just for the drama. I mean...I should probably be more polite about this. Fuck. I'm glad it's a good resource when it comes to your kid and all. Having a quality babysitter is important.
i have quickly learned that nighttime walks here aren't the best idea here but they certainly are entertaining. hence the pirate on the beach. glad to know there's someone out there who understands the importance of nighttime walks. also yeah, he doesn't seem very...present. the parrot seems to be twitchy though.
[pm] listen. if you want in on the groupchat i can get you in as a mole. ive got a list of fake names in my notes app that ive contemplated using when im bored. anyways. all you would have to do is pretend to be a middle aged white woman named either betty or cheryl. i can't explain why. i just feel like you could nail a betty or a cheryl. it's your energy.
What are three things you cannot leave the house without
easy. my kid, my sketchbook, and a bag of those warheads sour candies. my kid is a given though. i kinda have to take her wherever i go. not that i mind. i love her. but now im thinking...she's kind of a default for me and shes not a thing. shes a person. my little person. so my revision to the original quesion is my sketchbook, the purple needoh cube that luna gave me, and a bag of warheads. yeah. that sounds right.
Babe, this could describe literally about a third of the town's population, I fear. We love committing to the bit. So, who's this about, exactly?
Also, hold up. I'm super interested in this Facebook group you're mentioning. You gotta loooove a good bit of vintage social media. Tell me all about it. Who's the power hungry leader, who's beefing with whom, who's hooking up? Also, can I join? I'm a mother of two, technically, I can't believe I haven't been asked! [user means her cats]
Fair...but I'm talking about the one that showed up after the pirate ship and stomps around exclusively after that with that weird looking parrot that honestly is more crow like in my opinion but anyways. My daughter named him Clammy and I will say Clammy is VERY committed to the but.
[pm] hi. i'm paloma. and man, this facebook group? crazy shit. run down is Angela Chapman and Rachel Klein were best friends up until recently and started the facebook group like one...maybe two, years ago. It was all good fun. until Angela accused Rachel of sabotaging her son's 8th birthday party by taking down all the decorations and replacing them with a single gnome in the backyard where they were up. So then Rachel was demoted from admin to a mere user by Angela who then suddenly teamed up with Kimmberleigh Wright (Rachel's sworn enemy since the elementary school's holiday play incident of '24) who restructured the whole group (which is impossible to do on Facebook. Rachel was just mad that the page's header was changed). Anyways then Rachel retaliated by posting herself getting mimosas with Marge Edwards (Angel's sworn enemy since the elementary holiday play's incident of '25) the next day.
[user sighs, deersprings' mothers are exhausting]
[pm] anyways. like i said. i got here in february and already know too much.
Well, I don't know about him, but if you're looking for entertainment I know of a lovely play opening at the theatre soon. I'm sure you could ask one of the actors there about birthday parties! [user thinks this will be helpful to luc, actually.]
Is that so? I may have heard about it. I think Covet Couture is helping out with costuming...or it could've been something else. I don't remember. I think there was an email...I should probably check. Oh huh. Didn't think of that. Thanks. Is there a specific actor you might recommend?
Whoever cast him needs a raise, he should be performing for way more than this small town!
You know, I heard he doesn't, but there are some great performers in town who can perform his character. [user links someone she's 99% sure is just a regular dude... By Wicked's Rest standards, so he's still a little odd]
honestly? couldn't agree more. however...he seems weirdly attached to that one pirate looking ship that kind of simply materialized so i doubt he'd want to relocate to disney or whatever. honestly he's kinda weird i doubt they'd hire him. not very 'magical' is he?
[user clicks on the link, smiles to herself, and forwards the link to rachel i hopes it will shut her up]
yeah, i didn't think so. he didn't seem like the type to do...a seven year old's birthday party. thank you! that should work. maybe it'll get rachel off my case for a while.
You mean the pirate guy? I've never met someone so stinky in my entire life.
And those teeth? Scurvycore.
Yeah? What kinda group is that? What if you live in a flat? Or you're a dad? Why do you have to state "Real" ? Do you guys often have Fake Housemoms applying to the group?
You and me both, and trust me, I've encountered plenty of stinkies out there.
[user considers rewording the statement but laughs at her usage of the word 'stinkies' and keeps it]
Listen, I didn't ask many questions. I just joined in hopes of finding sitters for my daughter and the occasional mom friend or playdate. and as far as your questions go : one, it's a facebook group for supposedly the aforementioned purposes but mainly it's a drama shitshow between petty deersprings moms. two, i don't think they mean "house" in a literal sense. three, i also think that they don't care if dad's join, they're just they're doing a play on the reality series "The Real Housewives of" whatever state. I don't know.
[pm] I had to mention this one privately to answer your fifth question but Rachel Klein has made several fake mom accounts to join and torment Angela Chapman. It's usually after Rachel has a couple glasses of wine. Angela has now added "security questions" to the group to verify the members which include your street address to see if you actually live in Deersprings, but Rachel usually finds her way around it.
You mean the pirate guy? He's probably with the rest of the actors on the ship, his dedication to the bit is extremely impressive though! Someone told me his name was Lenny? I don't know, in my head I feel like his name would be a lot cooler than that. Like...Black Eyed Brooks or something.
His act seems a little uh...morbid intense for a kid's party. Maybe a superhero would work better? There are tons of people who do that.
okay thank god, i thought i was seeing things...there's more of them? thats it no more beach after curfew i refuse to die by odd pirates thank you, i uh, thats a good thing to know.
oh. lenny the pirate? he could do better. i like Black Eyed Brooks. lets keep that. My daughter told me she heard about him at school and has dubbed him "Clammy' because "clams also live on the beach mom".
i tried to tell Rachel that this guy is a bit much...but shes insisting on Clammy aka Black Eyed Brooks. my theory is shes trying to make it memorable to compete with angela's daughter's ocean themed party from last one. but i feel like this is the wrong approach.
never join a facebook mom group. i wish i didn't know this shit
You know, I keep hearing about this guy, but I haven't actually seen him yet. Does he have a hook and a parrot on his shoulder? Oh! And an eyepatch and one of those weird hats? Wait...wait...there's a group called Real Housemoms of Wicked's Rest? PLEASE tell me they have a youtube channel or something. I'm not on facebook, but I might join just for the drama.
i was taking a walk a little after dark because apparently i have no care for scary pirate men jumping at me and saw him. i dont see him during the day when i take my daughter, but he was there that night alright
i do not think i would forget seeing that odd man
i didn't get a long enough look to really see him but yes to the eyepatch and yes to the parrot. him and the parrot are the reasons i don't do nighttime walks anymore.
[user groans at herself for admitting the dumb group name]
i've literally been hiding my presence in this groupchat for a reason now and then i do THIS
yeahhhh...the name is basically self explanatory although personally i use it for babysitters. i will say it is good entertainment though.
uhhh listen. in my short six months of being here, I've never seen quite such dedication to a character. That man is just so convincing. I mean seriously, he must have some disney parks character training type shit because that man is an inhumanly amount of weird. good for him!
ha! get it? inhuman amount of weird. javier would've liked that jo
[user backspaces immediately]
any idea if he does birthday parties? a mom in my facebook group "The Real Housemoms of Wicked's Rest" is asking.
I cannot believe I just admitted to being in that horridly named group.
What has motherhood done to me
It is literally just to find the occasional sitter I swear
Paloma Cordova She / her
"They say I’m not fate, but I am karma."
SPECIES: Wurgen OCCUPATION: Label Designer / Fashion Consultant for Covet Couture AGE: 31 Years Old PLAYED BY: Mica FC: Priscilla Quintana
BIOGRAPHY:
Paloma Cordova was a reflection from birth. She was a quiet child with a peculiar habit of staring too long in the mirror or lingering near reflective surfaces when she came across them. As she got older, she connected the whispers of others in her head through mirrors and the hunger that came.
Paloma had been born a wurgen.
Fate had assigned the role of karma to the worst candidate out there. She did not care to know the doubts and fears of others, she didn’t trust herself with that power. With no desire to embrace her fae self, Paloma taught herself control.
Paloma taught herself how to sew and found joy in creating things made out of old clothes. She learned that the whispers didn’t appear when people looked in the mirror wearing something made for them, instead only felt pride and self love. Design quickly became Paloma’s safe place.
Within years she found herself becoming a woman who didn’t hunger for self loathing in the mirror but one who taught others to find peace in their image. She started her own line of clothing — “CORDÓVA” which was full of pieces that were a testament to her life.
Around 28, Paloma moved closer to the epicenter of her work in New York City and bought a beautiful home in Greenwich, Connecticut, a town full of old money and secrets.
Paloma became a regular name around town. With quick talk she earned the unfortunate attention of the Alacran family, a family with old money and power found deep in each crevice of the world.
At first, she believed she had them all figured out — the typical wealthy and respected family that someone would never want to cross.
Nothing prepared her for what they really were.
The Alacrans were descendants of generations of cruel and deviant empaths who used their abilities for manipulation to obtain money and power. The Alacrans thrived off of pressuring alliances with species that were susceptible to their influences.
Being around them stirred a hunger within her that she hadn’t felt in years: the hunger for justice by any means necessary.
But Paloma resisted temptation.
Unfortunately for Paloma, she found a soft spot for two of the Alacrans quickly. Not the older couple, but their son and his daughter.
Javier Alacrán was a man whose eyes were kind and whose heart was full of genuine love for his young daughter, Luna.
Javier had been widowed at a young age when his partner passed during childbirth. Since then, it had always been him and little Luna trapped in the tendrils of his parents’s “business”. Luna adored Paloma from their first interaction and pretty quickly, Javier learned to adore her too.
For the first time in years, Paloma gently let herself be seen for who she was and not the monster she had convinced herself she was.
Time passed and their three little lives intertwined deeper with each day. Eventually Javier and Luna moved out of the Alacrán home and into Paloma’s. That meant a family earned for Paloma.
Eventually came talks of forever, a life beyond Connecticut, siblings for Luna, travels to her home country of Ecuador…Javier had even bought a ring.
However, the Alacráns hated that their own son had made fools of them by mingling with someone unsusceptible to their charm and control which meant they would pay the price.
Threats quietly arose from the dangerous interspecies alliances the Alacrans had forged and forced until one night, a threat came a little too close to Luna. Paloma snapped. Deciding fate was taking too long, she succumbed to become the very role of karma she had sworn never to assume.
She entered the Alacrán house through mirrors, devouring their sanity nearly entirely, driving them to the very edge of madness. By the time Javier got her to step back, the damage had been done. Paloma had made them angry and reckless. The Alacrans were too far gone to care if their son or even granddaughter got hurt.
Paloma was ready to give up. She had finally found people who had accepted her flaws and giving herself up would be her final act of love. Javier had different plans. He had already arranged everything for Paloma and an eight year old Luna to flee to a town his contacts had deemed safe — the town of Wicked’s Rest.
She tried to object, to beg that she be the sacrifice but he insisted. It was Paloma who would make it out with Luna.
The night they fled there was no heroic descent into sunset, just things thrown into suitcases that were eventually piled into the back of an SUV and a tearful eight year old who didn’t understand why her and her Mamá had to leave her Papá behind.
After Luna cried herself to sleep in the front seat, Javier approached the driver side’s window one last time with a ring on a gold chain as a promise. The ring was not a promise that they’d find one another again but instead a promise that their love had been true and beautiful.
One last tearful kiss and the black SUV peeled off into the night, carrying the two people Javier loved most in the world. Paloma in turn carried their memories in the ring on the chain around her neck and in the sleeping child beside her who knew her as Mamá.
Soon, Paloma reached Wicked’s Rest with a shameful and broken heart towards a life that Javier had set up for her. But Paloma knew it wouldn’t be that easy, because life had taught her that everything unfinished followed someone to the very end.
PERSONALITY:
Independent · Stubborn · Protective · Vengeful · Creative · Impulsive · Selfless · Blunt
OTHER INFO:
Paloma is Ecuadorian American. Her parents immigrated before she was born and she was born and raised in Miami.
Paloma and her parents are still incredibly close and her parents worked multiple jobs while she applied to the Istituto Marangoni Miami where she studied Fashion Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design.
She keeps a small bag of sour candy in her purse at all times for when she is anxious.
Her purse is always big enough to hold her sketchbook that holds design ideas full of reference pictures, fabric scraps, and color swatches.
On days where either she or Luna miss Javier a little extra, one of them will suggest a trip to Sweetwood Chocolates where they will immediately go order an eight pack of milk chocolate shaped penguins (penguins were his favorite animal) and then take a short walk to Periwinkle Paints where Paloma without fail will get a new pack of Prismacolor colored pencils and three mini tubes of paint that Luna picks out.
Paloma keeps a notes app section on her phone full of things that people have said to her or around her that have resonated with her or made her laugh. It is mainly full of things Luna says but if you happen to make it into the notes app, you’ve made it into Paloma’s heart.
Her name means dove in Spanish and Luna’s name means moon.
