Wee Dragon

         {A}t first, Dragon was a little bit surprised when she gave him advice. He hadn’t really expected that she would do that, actually. He had expected her to scold him. But it was nice. “Yeah, there’s no doubt that he would do that. And I will definitely keep that in mind. Mom, did you know that this whole throwing stone thing has become a legend amongst the nobles? It’s hilarious!”

“Aye? So you have become famous then for throwing stuff. Do tell what have you been doing out of my eyesight my wee boy?” she asked curiously that there was even a legend around already by the boys mischievous actions. This was probably not something to feel proud of but Ellen sure was one proud mother right now. Most nobles were scum which happened to live in the upper levels of Goa and if they came out of their little bubble why not give them a good beating or scare then~?

        {H}e jumped down the tree and landed on the ground– out of sight of the nobles, of course. “I don’t care, I don’t like them. They don’t even know it’s me yet, they think that it’s a ghost.”

Nothing to be done then. He took after her when it came to harassing nobles. At least he didn’t beat them up like she had done. And still does from time to time *cough* “They are stupid. When your father gets to know what you’re doing you’ll get a few fists of love though. Not that I’ll tell him. Plainly support what’cha doing. Keep at it. Throw it maybe a bit harder against their heads or in the groin area I bet’cha that would be fun to see~!”

“When ever I have a nightmare..It’s usually the same one and it  always ends the same way. Ace is dead. Sometimes it gets worse and Luffy doesn’t make it either…”

Sabo had talked a lot about Luffy and Ace when he had been little. When Dragon had saved him. She hadn’t been there when he had that breakdown but Ellen had heard how terrible the young revolutionary had taken it in. The elderly woman smiled slightly and took his hat from his head to ruffle his hair. 

“Atta boy.” she didn’t tease him for his girly looks this time. “That fear is understandable. You lost someone dear to you. Someone special. And you almost lost another one.” after hearing from the war.. which everyone had tried to hide from her Ellen was close to raging. She had lost a grandson and the other one had disappeared. Surely Luffy had been alright but still.. She counted all three boys as her grandsons and the marines would eventually pay dearly for their crimes. Dragon and Sabo would make sure of that. She was sadly to old to play any major role in the war against the goverment.

“Luffy is alive though. He won’t die.. We won’t allow him to share such a fate. And neither will you Sabo. You both will live to get gray and old yah hear me?” she glared slightly at the boy now. Ellen would be mad if she outlived her other two grandsons as well.

Dadan awkwardly scratched the back of her head. "Uhhh, Hi?"

"You’re the mountain bandit Garp had been talking about. You wanna piece of me?"

"An idiot indeed" she sighed. It was the one, unequivocal truth that applied to Garp.

She soon burst out in raucous laughter at the young woman’s statement. “Now that’s something I’d pay to see! Garp getting solidly punched in the face!” She clutched her stomach as the barking laughter broke into giggles. Not exactly the sound you expect to hear from the bandit.

It was a moment or two before she managed to calm herself back down to a level where she could talk again.

"So where’d ‘e find you then? Ya must ‘ave done something interesting to catch his eye."

She chuckled along. It seemed that many people seemed amused by her statement of punching Garp in the face. Dadan wasn’t the first one. Ellen loved to see the people’s surprised face when she and that idiot argued. Deep down though.. both of them had feelings for one another. 

Was it shyness or something else which prevented them from confessing? Ellen wouldn’t know. This was a first for her after all. 

“I.. actually dunno why he took an interest in me. At first he wanted to arrest me for punching nobles haha.. and then eventually we kind of became friends.”

     It was pleasant to talk to this woman, far more so that it was to talk to Garp on even the best of occasions. Though, perhaps that was because her personality was similar to his in a way than to that old man’s. He smiled back at her, oddly relaxed considering he really didn’t know Ellen as well as he knew the rest of Luffy’s family. Still, it was interesting to think about how things might have changed if it Was Ellen watching over them all as kids and not Garp. 

     “Yeah, well he had Sabo and I to look out for him so I think he turned out okay.” His smile spread further at the rush of memories, back when the three of them had been so carefree and spirited. Not much had changed really now that he thought about it… 

     He paused at her last comment, smile faltering if only by a margin before it grew across his face once more, warm and easy. “I’m glad you think so. It’s nice to have nakama, I suppose. I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without them by this point.” They had brightened his world more than any of them would ever know, thankful for each and every one of them.

That certainly was an interesting thought. Sadly enough Ellen had never really spent much time with the boys considering she had left with her son. Eventually she got to know a lot more through Sabo’s talk about the other two brothers then. She was very grateful for that. 

“Aye I trust that you two took good care of him. Without you two Luffy would have been lonely.” and she was glad that, that hadn’t been the case. He didn’t have his parents at his side and neither of his grandparents. Garp had been there, probably but only from time to time considering he was the hero of the marines and a vice-admiral who got called a lot to headquaters to take care of things.

She noticed his hesitation. Even if it was only for a few seconds with age you noticed a few things. Age and experience did a lot to mellow the once wild Ellen down, quite a lot actually. Considering how she had been in her youth this was quite a change she had went through. “Everyone deserves a place in this world. Friends and family as well as love.” she told the boy with a warm and motherly smile as she ruffled a hand through his hair.

"Well..yeah he has before." Bunch of times. It wouldn’t be Aceif he didn’t tease the blonde once in a while. The only problem was that he was teasing him by calling him a girl and he knew one thing for sure. Rumors were gonna spread and fast. ""what makes you think I’m a girl anyways?"

“See? So don’t go around blaming others now.” she scolded him rather playfully. At hs next question she tilted her head but soon smiled, as if the answer was obvious enough. “Do you really want me to answer that question m’lady?”

          {D}ragon was quiet as he thought about the right thing to say in response. He did love his dad, really. “I also love dad. But he always keeps asking me if I want to become a marine. I don’t want that.” Dragon does buy him a lot of senbei sometimes, though. Does that count?

“Ah that man is just too persistent.” the elderly lady sighed softly and shook her head. Garp and his damn antics. He never changed since before. Ever since she met him actually. “He never gets it when people tell him no.” she had her own troubles with that in the past. And even now from time to time. “Let’s change the topic though mah boy. How have you been doing? Are you eating alright?”

     ”Well, it’s never too late to start now is it? Bet she doesn’t even know how to properly walk in heels.” He clicked his tongue as if in disappointment, desperately trying to keep his grin at bay. “At least she knows the waltz already, though she always tries to lead.” 

     He couldn’t bite back his smirk this time, amusement plain t see across freckled features at even the thought of Sabo having to actually act like a lady. Briefly considering what Sabo would look like in a dress, he burst out laughing, hand rising to cover over his lips as he muffled the laughter as best as he could. 

     ”It’s understandable that he would keep a secret though, even if Luffy deserved to know about his family. Still, even if Garp pisses me off sometimes, it did, in a way, keep Luffy safe.” One of the few decisions that old man had made that he could actually kind of agree with, not that he would ever admit as much to that man. “Still, I’m glad that Lu has such a large family. That kid deserves all the happiness in the world.”

"Aye it's never too late to learn things. Even when you are as old as me yah can still learn a lot of stuff." she agreed with the freckled pirate and chuckled softly. The boys Garp had taken care of had certainly grown up to be good adults. At least he did that right. Seeing their son had grown up to be a troublesome fella for the world she was rather proud of him as well of course.

When Ace laughed Ellen couldn't help but smile. It was always good to see children laugh so freely, especially this one kid in front of her who had been so grumpy as a little boy. He had certainly grown up loved by others. He seemed rather content with his life he was leading now as well.

"It had been quite a big secret for wee Luffy.. and he grew up without caring about his parents much. Typical. He has that definitely from his grandpa's side to be so cheerful." Garp had been similar when he was young after all, it was almost weird that Dragon was the serious one in the family. It probably came from her side of the family. At the mention of happiness she smiled at the whitebeard pirate. "You do too you know? But yah seem happy enough as it is Ace." and boy was she glad that he wasn't as grumpy and angry at the world any longer.

She only chuckled softly. "Aye is it really my fault now? Didn't Loverboy tease you before as well?" he probably did just not with being girly or being called a lady by someone of the exact same gender which he was being teased to be.
