“I haven’t seen any around here, but I do know that Eden may have some. She’s helped with a few herbs I needed before.” Kiara hummed, leaning back on one of the nearby rocks and looking up at the canopy of trees.
Allie leaned on her cane and considered for a brief moment, “I think I’ve used her before, when I wasn’t able to find the herb I was looking for in the forest,” She informed the other witch, looking thoughtful, “She’s the nymph, correct?”
“I’ve never had hot chocolate actually. Pity they don’t have it. Mmmm… I think one of those caramel iced teas sounds good,” Dagmar decided after reading the sign back by the counter. Everything else sounded close to pure caffeine. And she was avoiding that for the possibly ever. Possibly.
“Ohhh so I’m guessing you’ve gotta quite a few opinions on the locals. Do tell.” Dagmar was all in for the secrets of this town and Allie seemed… like she’d know quite a bit. Especially with that smile of her’s.
“Never had hot chocolate? How have you lived?!” Allie exclaimed in mock astonishment, “Remind me to bring you back here when it gets cold, the hot chocolate here is about the only thing good about winter on this island.” She laughed and quickly conversed with the barista, ordering their drinks and pulling out her wallet to pay.
“And I don’t know anything you won’t find out after living here for a few months, maybe even weeks,” As long as you’re not human, she added mentally.
“Oh, I have some of that in my apartment. And I found a few sprigs earlier. You can have them if you want.” She replied, digging in her bag and pulling the little jar of herbs out, then placed it in the other witch’s hands.
“Thank you, but I need an almost, or fully-grown adult plant,” Allie frowned, and turned the jar of sprigs over in her hand absentmindedly, “I want to uproot it and take it back to my apartment, to try and replenish my stock of it just a little bit. I used to know exactly where a patch grew, but I haven’t been able to find it.”

“What are you getting? I’m assuming you have a regular?” Dagmar asked Allie. Might as well get whatever she’s getting so the sake of efficiency. Not to mention I have yet to actually order anything from here. “My only request is that we sit by the window. I wanna watch who walks by.”
“I normally get anything with caramel in it, but the hot chocolate’s good too,” Allie considered that for a moment, “Though, I think hot chocolate only shows up during the winter months.” She shrugged indifferently, “Any of that sound good to you?”
“And the window thing is fine,” She told the other girl as she waved a barista over, “The people on this island are very... colorful. Unique. I figure people-watching is pretty interesting” Allie flashed a small, almost sly smile. She allowed herself to revisit the thought of whether Dagmar was human or not. The aura she gave off was odd, not exactly human but not exactly supernatural, either.
-
Kiara chuckled a bit, quickly snapping a picture of one of the thrushes nearby. “Oh, I wanted to get some pictures of the animals and the trees.” She replied with a small smile. “What about you?”
“I’m sure the scenery around here is quite beautiful, with all the plants and wildlife,” She gave the other girl an amused simper. Allie herself had always found hobbies like photography a bit too mundane to hold her attention for very long, but to each their own.
The witch pulled an old, battered book from her bag and flipped to a seemingly random page. “I’m looking for this,” Allie gestured to the drawing of a gnarled green plant that took up about half the page, “No store around here has any, they’re too hard to take care of. I only ever keep one when I need it for a potion someone’s commissioned me for.”
She made a face, looking a tiny bit disgusted, “They’re mainly used for love potions,” Her tone betrayed her disapproval of the brew, “I always hate making those.”
-
The pink haired witch blinked when she noticed the other wasn’t quite.. looking and smiling at her, and then she realized her mistake of believing she could see. She laughed softly at the other witch’s comment. “Yes, I am. They’re mostly experiments for my other potions. And the good thing is they don’t stay in too too long.”
Allie nodded, that having happened to her once or twice. “When I first started making potions when I was 13, one of my mishaps turned my hair bright green,” The witch grinned, reminiscing, “I didn’t even realize until I walked into the living room and my mother let out the most awful scream...” She fell quiet, remembering the incidents that followed, some of them not as funny.
“What brings you to the forest?” Allie piped back up, transitioning o a new topic, “You don’t see many folks this deep into the woods.”

“Who wants to live in New Jersey?” Allie mumbled to herself as she shut the book she had been reading and frowned, “It sounds fucking awful, getting mugged and all that.” She looked over to the table across from her, where she sensed a human (or she was pretty sure they were human) sitting. “What about you?” Allie asked, “Would you ever live in New Jersey?”
Jack folded a page in his book down to mark his spot. “I’ve lived in Jersey, not for very long I admit, but long enough to know the place. Why?”
“I don’t know, I was reading this,” She held up the book (the title was in braille), “And it’s set in New Jersey, and it just seems like a shitty place to live. Is it?”
-
Dagmar walked in the door and gazed around. Ah same old cafe atmosphere that was universal to everywhere. And maybe she’d start claiming the table by the window No one was currently sitting and it even had some outlets. Perfect.
It was then Dagmar realized that oh yeah Allie had asked her a question. “I’m trying to cut down on a caffeine but small cup couldn’t hurt.” Well it could but she could deal with the affects later.
Allie smiled at Dagmar (or the direction she thought Dagmar was in) and closed the door behind the other girl. She folded her cane up and stuck it in her pocket, not wanting to accidentally hit anybody with it as she walked. If the cafe hadn’t changed it’s layout anytime soon, she should be fine.
“I’ll get you something as a thanks for walking me here,” Allie walked over to and leaned against the cafe’s counter, “What do you want?”
-
Kiara hummed as she walked around, occasionally stopping to capture a few pictures and simply breathe in the energy of the forest, feeling calm and refreshed by the magic in the air. However, she was snapped out of her daze as she crossed paths with- gasp!- another witch, and she smiled a little. “Ciao! You must be the other witch I heard about! I’m Kiara.” She said happily, holding the hand that wasn’t holding her camera out to the other.
“Hi,” Allie waved toward the direction the voice was coming from, and smiled at the other witch. At least she hoped she was smiling at them,. Allie was never really sure whether she was facing the right way or not.
“Nice to meet you, Kiara,” The witch flashed another grin at the girl, (she didn’t notice that Kiara was waiting for her to shake her hand) “I think I’ve heard of you too, you’re the one that dyes her hair a lot, yes?”
