Dimensions of our Realities - @TheNaijaDream
I believe we each perceive things differently, and the combination of all our perceptions creates how we view the world, creates our reality. I’m not going to pretend to know what reality is, but I know what I think it is, and what I think it should be. Reality should be what each and every one of us wants it to be. There should be no duplicate realities, just as you can’t find any two fingerprints that look the same. What my reality is should never be the same as what your reality is. For each person has different, albeit special, beliefs. And these beliefs should be what, over the years, shape our reality to what it is. Not what somebody else says is going on, not what everyone else is doing, but what our heart says is real. It should not make a difference in my reality that some guy is running down the street naked. For that one man running down the street will never be able to do anything good for me, or bad against me. Even if a car hits that man my life should not change in anyway.
People who have auditory or visual hallucinations are confused because no one else can hear or see what they do. They wonder how come no one can hear what they are hearing. It’s a very lonely disease. It may be even as bad as losing your memory.
Next, some of us live inside our heads. We live in fantasy. If we don’t like the world we live in, we turn to books, movies, or music. The list goes on and on. We want to feed our imagination and daydream all day in hopes that just by wishing for our dream house or dream person that it will come true. It’s nice to get lost in a book or lost in our lover’s eyes, but in the end we can’t escape life. Sooner or later the hype will go away and we will be back with our problems again. Someone said, “The feeling of being on top of the world is fleeting.”
Also, some of us lie to ourselves so much we believe it. So our reality becomes twisted. We might tell ourselves that we are happy even though below the surface we are not. We might tell ourselves that harming others is ok as long as no one knows. After a while, lying about everything will eventually push everyone away from you. You may lie to yourself so much that no one can hit the buzzer to tell you to stop. There is a story about a man that kept lying to others that he needed help when he really didn’t; when he actually was in a situation where he was serious, no one believed him anymore. Earl Nightingale said, “Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.”
Next, for some their reality is limited because it’s all they know. There’s a verse in the Bible: “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” Someone might not know that they should have good hygiene to prevent diseases if they grew up in the jungle. A homeless man might not know there is a job opening somewhere close because no one bothers to help him. People who are Amish don’t know what the modern world is like until they leave home. People who commit crimes, but don’t understand it is a crime should be helped to understand what they have done. The more we know, the more we are expected to help others. It’s wrong to hoard everything for yourself. People with loads of money should consider using it to help others. “With great power, comes great responsibility.” People with creative minds and are inventors should use that knowledge for the good of mankind instead of making bombs or nukes. There’s a double side to power. Wouldn’t you want to leave a better reality for others?
Also, someone may have grown up in an abusive home, or grown up in extreme poverty so they never get the chance to live fully or reach what some call self-actualization. If you are abused you might see no way out. Your reality could be the four walls in your room. You might see the world as hopeless or unkind, unless someone were to show you a better way of life. You might just focus on having food, clothes, and shelter. “The perfecting of one’s self is the fundamental base of all progress and all moral development,” Confucius.
Lastly, you may feel like you are in a whole different world than your family when what you think about, believe in, and experience isn’t the same, even though you live in the same house! For instance, if you believe in Universalism, while your family don’t, but you never tell your family. If you have experienced a lot of mental illness and the rest of your family has not, you may discover that sometimes they will have no idea of what you are talking about or can even begin to understand. Reality is different to every person, so those psychiatrists should literally get a taste of their own medicine! Whoever sets the standard for what’s real, or not real, needs to get their eyes checked. Did they read the fine print that says, “What’s real, is up to you to decide?” I think the spirit world and mental world overlap. Where do you draw the line? Where does the spirit and mental world come together? We may never know and science can only tell us so much. We should let people come to their own conclusions. Reality is an open-ended subject and experienced in different forms and ways for different people. Reality is a gray area. Some people may truly hear spirits, talk to them or see them. Thomas in the Bible wouldn’t believe that Jesus appeared before the disciples unless he saw with his own eyes.
There are a lot of doubting Thomas’s out there — I hope I am not one of them. There is one reality I believe is true: that God is love and he loves me unconditionally.

Perks of being president: Controlling the world’s most powerful army, having Air Force One at your disposal — and getting to find out if Jon Snow is dead or alive before the rest of us.
That’s right, Obama has requested — and has received — advance screeners ofGame Of Thrones, according to the show’s creators.
At Sunday’s Hollywood premiere of the show’s sixth season, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss revealed the president is a huge, demanding fan of the show.
“When the commander-in-chief says ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you going to do?” Benioff said. [x]

The Mind-set of a Misogynist - @TheNaijaDream
There have been several theories about root causes of misogyny, but I will always blame misogyny on patriarchy. Patriarchy is a "political-social system that insists that males are inherently dominating and superior to everything. Ruling over the weak and maintaining that dominance through various forms of psychological terrorism & violence. Patriarchy begins from childhood. The roles & behaviours deemed appropriate to the sexes are expressed in social roles. The boy child can play "rough" & it will be a sign of strength, while the girl child will be frowned upon. Down to toy stores, schools, and even churches who blatantly promote gender roles Patriarchy is embedded in every aspect of life from childhood to adulthood, encouraging men to believe we are superior. That leads to the prejudice, hatred & dislike for women which is misogyny. In essence, patriarchy is the root of misogyny.
Misogyny is the unreasonable fear or hatred of women. Trust me, i know from experience. Some misogynists assume since they don't necessarily hate/fear women, they aren't misogynistic, forgetting the prejudice. Misogyny dates far back in history. The Greeks down right considered women plaques. The great philosopher Aristotle referred to women as "deformed males" in one of his famous writings. Several factors influenced my misogynistic mentality, personality and behaviour.
Partly family - as much as my mother was independent & my father open minded, gender roles were still assigned All the major religions are deeply misogynistic. From the Holy Bible, to the Holy Quran, and the Jewish Torah. Christianity in my case influenced my views. An almighty male God, Eve bringing sin into the world. And most importantly, no women reverends at my church. “A woman should learn in quietness & full submission, I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be quiet for Adam was formed first, then Eve. & Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived & became a sinner.” 1 Timothy 2:11-14. That is one of the many misogynistic quotes from the Holy Bible. To this day, a woman can't wear trousers (pants) to my childhood church.
Like a typical oppressor, i denied the existence of the plight of the oppressed, in fear of losing the benefits. I denied the existence of sexism and the ills that come with it. I would police the body of women, down to what they wear believing i was coming from a place of moral authority. I degraded women for the same sexual escapades that my friends and I also got up to. Although, we take it for granted, social media played a role in my reformation. It exposed me to several opinions & facts. Interactions with feminists that made me see misogyny for the oppression it is. Research on misogyny made me discover inhumane practises like clitoridectomy Most men are resistant to change due to peer pressure, having a narrow world view & lack of experience on gender based dehumanization.
Before I conclude, patriarchy has a negative impact not only on women, but on men as well. Patriarchy denies men the ability to openly express their emotions - a core to wellbeing. It puts unnecessary pressure on men to be sole providers, even when they are not in a position to be. The fight for gender equality is not for women alone, we must all envision alternatives to patriarchy. We must all fight.

Black Lives Matter Activist Interrupts Hillary Clinton [2/24/16] “I am NOT a Superpredator.”
I couldn’t find this already on tumblr, so here it is

video of Hillary calling Black kids “super predators” x
Bernie voted for the ‘94 crime bill and made similar remarks pre-1994. Hillary’s comments were post-1994. Sadly, my generation doesn’t remember the crime epidemic, which unfortunately led to unintended consequences.
from Shaun King:
“Two minutes that you MUST watch. Stop saying that Bernie Sanders was for the crime bill. He spoke over and over and over again against it. Here he is, calling it what it really was, a punishment bill, that came after poor people and Black folk. When he eventually supported a version of it, he openly stated that he only did so because of the new laws protecting women in the bill, but be clear, he always opposed it, and did so with great passion.”

Two Black Lives Matter activists interrupted a private Hillary Clinton fundraising event Wednesday night in Charleston, South Carolina
That night Clinton was giving a speech about her support to black community. Youth activist Ashley Williams tried to confront Hillary showing a sign with Hillary’s own words “we have to bring them to heel!” Clinton said this phrase talking about at-risk youth in 1996, calling such children “super-predators”. Such words should cost Clinton a black vote. Children are not animals, we should bring them to heal - not to heel. Ashley Williams showed the sign to the crowd and then to Hillary Clinton.
Williams demanded Clinton to apologize to black people for mass incarceration. “I’m not a super-predator,” Williams said. “We’ll talk about it,” Clinton promised and continued her hypocritical speech about her support to African Americans while Ashley Williams was thrown out of the event by the Secret Service.

BEE: BRAND ECONOMIC ENSLAVEMENT - @TheNaijaDrem
We might need another Mandela to spend 27 years in jail. If that will guarantee the current generation of blacks knowledge of why being consumers of brands and not product value affects our efforts to accumulate wealth.
The English dictionary defines value as " Relative worth, merit, or importance," mentally put emphasis on the word IMPORTANCE like Nigerians put on the letter "O". Understanding the difference between affording a product and being able to buy a product is one of the biggest barriers between us as black and the accumulation of wealth. Knowing the IMPORTANCE of a brand in our lives.
On the other hand, Brand is defined as "The set of expectations, memories, stories and relationships that, taken together, account for a consumer’s decision to choose one product or service over another". Brand is why a size 8 Ferragamo Ostrich skin shoe will cost $800 and a locally made shoe of the same size & material wont cost up to a fraction of that.
A popular saying, i admit to also being somewhat a believer of, "Fake it till you make it", because as Nigerians say "Na as you dress them go address you". But who says you cant be smart about it? Because there is a very thin line between "faking it till you make it" & faking it forever. Wealth and the process of accumulating it is a thing of habit. Strong character & discipline. I'll elaborate.
For instance, Bar A sells a bottle of Heineken for R45 & Bar B sells the same bottle for R20. Brand being the only reason for the price difference. Goes back to the IMPORTANCE/value of the product to you as a consumer. Your opportunity cost for choosing Bar A over Bar B is what determines your discipline & speaks volumes about your ability to accumulate wealth.
In conclusion, i am no expert nor am i wealthy yet. Just a young man with access to the internet and a blog . Writing from years of observing the habits of the rich and poor in my society. The accumulation of wealth goes down to small things like your choice of where & when to consume a bottle of beer. Nothing wrong with expensive brands, but knowing when you can afford to buy them and when you are just merely able to buy them is of the essence in the process of accumulation of wealth. A solid grasp of proper financial management & self discipline are the only difference between those who make it and those who don't.
