“Oops, sorry! I didn’t see you there.”
“Oh, it’s fine. No harm done. I run into people a lot.”
Sacrifice To Hide The Truth || Cressida and Albus
Cressida was visibly shocked from what had just happened. It felt like a giant weight had just fallen on top of her, and that she would have to carry that same weight for a very long time. How could he have done this to her? Did he not have a single strap of decency in him to at least talk to her about it? This wasn’t right… it hurt.
Her emotions were unstable, she didn’t know what she felt. It was just empty. Nothing but empty. She forced herself to look him in the eye, to face him. How could he have been so perfect in her eyes a few minutes ago, but now so… tainted? He was different to her now, he just wasn’t the same.
“You’re sorry? What kind of a response is that?” Cressida hissed at him, her voice venomous. “You had to? Explain. Now. Oh, for some reasons unknown to me… I’m going to give my recovering girlfriend alcohol! I’m sure that’ll be great fun!” Cressida had tears in her eyes now. This was horrible, it made her feel sick.
“Just explain it all to me. I don’t give a shit… just tell me why.”
He swallowed thickly. Guilt churned in his stomach. He’d tried to prepare himself for her reaction, but nothing could prepare himself for this. She hated him and he deserved it. He deserved that and more. He’d betrayed her trust but it would be worse if she knew what he’d done, right? He couldn’t let her know about Brennan. He couldn’t let her know how badly he had failed him.
There were tears in his eyes but he wouldn’t let them fall. He was a Potter and Potter’s didn’t cry. They were strong and brave and selfless. They helped people. All of those were things that he had failed at. He didn’t help Brennan and he put his own secret above his girlfriend. He was never going to be able to make his father proud, was he?
“I’m so sorry, Cress,” he whispered, “but I can’t. I can’t tell you. I can’t tell anyone. You’ll hate me,” a tear travelled down his cheek and he quickly wiped it away and hoped she hadn’t seen it, “I can’t tell you. I’m sorry.”
Sacrifice To Hide The Truth || Cressida and Albus
Cressida frowned at him, placing her hand on his arm. “Albus… are you sure that you’re okay? You look a little off, and it’s starting to worry me.” Her eyes softened as she looked at him, though her heart felt somewhat heavy. Now that she was in a relationship with him, her everyday doubts and worries were amplified, which made her somewhat fragile— though she would never bother him with her concerns.
“Ah, what is it?” Cressida inquired, raising an eyebrow at him. When she saw the butterbeer… it reminded her of alcohol and made her stomach turn. But if he went out of his way to get this for her, who would she be to turn it down? With a slightly forced smile, she took the drink.
“Yes, I don’t mind it! Thanks for getting this for me, it was really nice of you.” Cressida replied, taking a few sips of the butterbeer before dropping it. What the hell? That certainly did not taste like butterbeer! No, hold on a minute… This was firewhiskey. Definitely firewhiskey.
“Albus….what the fuck…. have you given me?” Cressida whispered, her eyes widened in his direction. Just why would he do such a horrible thing to her? She felt so betrayed. But then again, the thought of X crossed her mind. “Did you do this on purpose or is there a reason? If you lie about this, I won’t forgive you! And…and… I’ll know if you lie… just, tell me the truth! Okay?”
For a moment before Cressida too a sip, he felt a huge urge to knock the bottle from her hands but he suppressed it. He had to do this. He’d gone this far, he couldn’t back down now... no matter the consequences. A few sips wasn’t going to hurt her, right? It wouldn’t hurt her as much as finding out Albus’ secret. At least, that’s what he continued telling himself.
As she realized what he had done, he held back the urge to bolt. Unconsciously, he stepped back from her slightly and bit his lip hard. He’d done it. He’d betrayed her trust. There was no way she could ever forgive him. He ruined everything.
“I-I’m sorry,” he stuttered out, avoiding looking at her as much as possible. Guilt was already clinging to him, taunting him about how selfish he was. He already regretted not just letting X reveal his secret, “I’m so sorry. I had to. I didn’t want to. I’m sorry.”
“Good, because it seems like she likes you too. But as her older sister I’m required to tell you that if you hurt her, I’ll hurt you… of course you’re a student so I’m not technically allowed to say that…”
“I completely understand, and I won’t hurt her.”
1. What is your character’s secret?
Albus’ best friend, Brennan, killed himself over the summer. Albus had known he was depressed for a while and didn’t tell anyone about it and after everyone assumed his death was an accident, Albus hid the fact that it was suicide from everyone.
2. Does anyone (besides X) know about it?
No one else knows about it. He’s terrified that if anyone knew, they would not only hate him for not helping Brennan, but they wouldn’t remember Brennan like he wanted to be remembered.
3. How desperate are they do keep their secret a secret? Why?
Albus is desperate to keep his secrets. He’d probably do whatever X tells him to that doesn’t involve hurting someone too badly. He doesn’t want anyone to think of him like he thinks of himself and since Brennan had tried so hard to hide his depression from everyone, Albus want’s to continue making people believe it was an accident so they’ll remember Brennan like how he wanted to be remembered.
4. What would your character do if someone found out about their secret?
If someone found out his secret, he’d probably completely avoid that person for a long time. He might freak out or break down, terrified that the person would hate him. Depending on how many people found out, he’d probably hide out in his dorm for a pretty long time.
5. What are the potential repercussions of everyone knowing their secret?
He’s afraid that if everyone knew that Brennan’s death was a suicide, they’d hate him and be disappointed in him. Everyone would know that the son of Harry Potter had let his best friend die. Everyone would also think of Brennan as the ‘kid who committed suicide’ rather than how he wants them to think of him.
1. What is your character’s full name?
Albus’ full name is Albus Severus Potter.
2. Where did their name come from?
He’s named after Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape, two headmaster’s of Hogwarts that helped his father win the war.
3. Do they hate it? Love it? Why?
When he was little, Albus absolutely hated his name because kids made fun of him. However, when he got older and learned why he was named, he grew to love it because he realized how important his namesakes were to his father.
4. What is your character’s closest relationship?
Before, Albus would have said that his closest relationship was Brennan, as he was his best friend, but now it’s probably his father. He can tell his father (mostly) everything and is always trying to make him proud.
5. Has your character ever dated? Who? How did it end?
Albus is currently with Cressida, but she’s the only one that he’s ever dated as he’s always been afraid that someone would only like him because of his father. There’s also the fact that he’s pretty awkward about everything when it comes to romance and isn’t really sure what to do.
6. What was your character’s favorite subject in school and why?
His favorite subject is probably either DADA or Herbology (as it’s taught by his Uncle Neville). Normally, he tells everyone that it’s Herbology, though, because he doesn’t like being compared to his father.
7. What is your character’s dream job?
Albus is conflicted on what he wants to do, but his dream job would probably be a professional Quidditch Player. However, due to his hatred of attention, he would never do it.
8. What is your character’s relationship to their family?
While Albus is really close to a few members like his father, he’s a little withdrawn from a lot of them. He still loves them and would do anything for them but sometimes they can be a little... much.
9. Has your character ever played sports? Which ones? How did it go?
Albus has played Quidditch all his life and he’s even played on the Quidditch Team from his second year to his fifth year. He played Seeker and he’s pretty good at it, but he didn’t try out this current year due to everything going on.
10. What does your character like to do in their free time?
In his free time, Albus normally likes to read a good book or go flying. Depending on the mood he’s in, he also likes to visit Hagrid in his hut or simply take a walk outside.
Revelations || Rose/Open
Rose turned corner after corner as she ran through corridors with no real destination set in mind just going wherever her feet would carry her. The tears spilled down her cheeks as the images continued to plague her mind. It was exhausting paired with the running and the crying. As she turned one last corner Rose stopped and leaned against a wall trying to catch her breath which was proving to be impossible as she slid down the wall and hugged her knees to her chest.
“I… I should’ve gone to class earlier,” Rose admitted. “Why did I have to be late that day? Why did I ever trust him?” Rose began questioning herself about that night two years ago as she looked up at her cousin. “Why didn’t do what X told me,” she questioned her voice breaking. “Why didn’t I just hex Tatiana? It shouldn’t feel like this? My secret being revealed. Shouldn’t I be relieved? Why do I feel so dirty?”
Albus bit his lip as she talked. He couldn’t believe she felt like that. He couldn’t believe X could be so... evil. “Rose, none of this is your fault,” he told her softly as he walked over and sat beside her. His thoughts raced as he tried to think of what to say. He’d never been good at comforting people. It was part of the reason he blamed himself for not being able to save Brennan.
He thought quickly of the words to say, “This isn’t your fault. None of it is. Not what happened to you, not that you didn’t hex someone, and not that someone revealed that, alright? None of it is your fault. Don’t blame yourself. Don’t try and think of the ‘what if’s’,” he paused. He so badly wanted to just blot out the world around his cousin. She’d been through something so horrible, and to have it revealed to the school must be devastating, “Everything’s going to be okay.”
“Yeaaaah she did. Arent you two cute…”
“Er, I guess so. I really like her.”
Revelations || Rose/Open
Rose hugged her books to her chest as she headed to the Great Hall for dinner. She had denied X three times and yet he still had yet to reveal her secret. She was starting to believe that she really was right about him. He had no balls to reveal her secret and she was secretly relieved. It hadn’t taken her long to reach the Great Hall, her hunger more apparent than ever as the smell of the food reached her nose. It smelled amazing and she couldn’t wait to fill herself and finish her favorite book she had been reading.
Pushing open the Great Hall doors Rose stopped suddenly as something whizzed past her before exploding in the air. There her secret was revealed. He had kept to his promise about revealing it to the entire school. There it was right in front of everybody that she had been raped when she was 14. All color seeped from the girls face and her appetite was quickly lost as her books fell to the ground and she turned on her heels and ran off down the corridors hoping to find a place to hide from any humiliation or gossip about her. A place to hide her tears. A place where she would be safe from everything and everyone.
Albus nearly jumped a foot in the air when the fireworks went off. He’d been eating quietly by himself, mind locked on what he was supposed to do to Cressida when it happened. As he read the words that appeared from the fireworks, his heart fell. He hadn’t talked to Rose in a while, but the fact that such a thing had happened to her and this X person had not only targeted her as well about something that wasn’t her fault, but had revealed it to the school, angered him.
Immediately, he turned his head as he heard the sound of books falling to the floor. He saw his cousin run from the room and for a short moment, he was conflicted on what to do. He quickly made up his mind, however, and abandoned his food to go search for his cousin. Worry clung to his heart as he walked quickly through the halls until he found her.
“Rosie,” he asked hesitantly, unsure if he should just leave her alone or not, “Are you okay?”
“What are you so excited about?”
“Cress and I are official.”
“Oh nothing, Mr Potter, just that you and my baby sister are in luuuuurve.”
“She told you? Of course she told you, you’re her sister... er.. I guess so?”
Sacrifice To Hide The Truth || Cressida and Albus
Cressida had been having a generally normal day, nothing too bad or too wild had happened. She had completed her daily routine of annoying the prefects and Filch by setting up traps around the school. It had been like no other, really. But she was enjoying her life at the moment, she had gotten rid of alcohol completely and she now had a boyfriend whom she cared for deeply. Everything seemed to be looking up, aside from the the entire ‘X’ situation which was affecting both herself and her sister.
She was heading back to the Gryffindor Common Room after her successful mission of setting up pranks. Now there was dungbombs and stink pellets set in every classroom aside from Muggle Studies, as she knew that Nathaniel did not need anything like that since he had just arrived as a professor. But even so, the other professors were not going to be happy with their discoveries once they triggered the trap. The thought made her giggle a little, knowing how ticked off they would be.
Though now that she had spotted Albus, her day could only get better! With a big smile, she quickly walked over to him. “Hey! Uh, I’m fine. How are you? You look a little… off. Is something wrong?” Cressida inquired, feeling concern towards her boyfriend. He looked okay, but then again… he didn’t. There was something up with his aura that made her feel uneasy. She hoped that it was just a feeling that would pass, and that he was really fine.
Albus did his best to smile at her, despite the guilt rising in him. She had no idea what he was about to do. He was going to betray her trust. He wouldn’t blame her if she never forgave him after this. If she hated him, he would completely understand. He wasn’t sure if he could forgive anyone who did something like this to him, after all. He was ruining their relationship before it even started.
“I’m fine, Cress. I got you something,” he said nervously as he pulled out the bottle of what looked to be Butterbeer. He licked his lips slightly as he handed it to her, “Er, I hope you like butterbeer. I couldn’t think of what else to get you,” he lied.
He wanted nothing more at the moment to burst out and tell her what was actually going on, but he knew he couldn’t. X would tell everyone about Brennan. He just needed to get her to drink it and accept the consequences that would undoubtedly come.
“Oh I’m sure you are great, aren’t you? I’m pretty good, thanks.”
“Alright, you know something. What do you know?”
Sacrifice To Hide The Truth || Cressida and Albus
Albus was nervous. No, he was downright terrified. Guilt churned in his stomach over something he hadn’t even done yet and X’s words repeated themselves over and over in his mind. He was saving his own skin. He was betraying his girlfriend. He was going to hurt her in order to hide the fact that he failed Brennan. He was putting his own needs in front of hers, and he hated himself for it. He absolutely despised himself.
Yet, whenever he thought about not going through with it, his mind flashed back to Erik Young and Primrose Parkinson. It was obvious that X wasn’t messing around. If he didn’t do this, everyone would know about Brennan. Albus couldn’t let that happen. Not only would everyone hate Albus, their memory of Brennan would change. The boy had worked so hard to hide his depression from everyone but Albus, and Albus had worked so hard after Brennan was dead to continue hiding it. He wanted Brennan to be remembered how he wanted to be remembered, not by the sickness that had defeated him.
So, with a few deep breaths, Albus pocketed the firewhiskey (not charmed to look like ButterBeer), and searched for Cressida. This was going to hurt her and she was going to hate him, but it would be worse if she knew about Brennan, right? After all, Brennan had been her classmate. She’d known him. If she knew that Albus had known the boy was suicidal and kept silent about it, she would hate Albus. He had to do this. As his eyes found the girl in the hallway, he struggled to hide his emotions as he greeted her, “Hey, Cress,” he said with a fake smile, “How are you?”
“I imagine that’s probably the case, yes. Anyway, Albus… how’re you doing?”
“I’m doing good... great, actually. What about you?”
Poor Albus, would betray your own girlfriend to save your skin. ~X
Albus’ eyes skimmed it and he immediately burned the letter. He knew what X said was true, but he felt like he had to. It was either Cressida hating him, or everyone else and Cressida hating him.
He had to do it, even if it would ruin his relationship with her before it even started.
*package attached* Someone's in a good mood, how sweet. Now make your little girlfriend drink this bottle of fire whiskey, or everyone will find out what you did... or I guess didn't do actually, since you didn't stop it. ~X
Albus sucked in a breath, staring at the letter and package in front of him in horror. He knew about Cressida’s problem and he she would hate him if he did it… she would also probably hate him if she knew about Brennan. Everyone probably would, actually. If anyone knew that Brennan’s death hadn’t been an accident, but a suicide, and he had known about his friend’s suicidal tendencies but had stayed quiet about it… he knew everyone would hate him.
Even if he could deal with that, he’d worked so hard to keep everyone remembering Brennan as he wanted people to think, instead of the depressed kid Albus had known. Not only would people hate him, but their memory of Brennan would be tainted. He couldn’t do that. He’d failed Brennan once but this was something he could do for him.
This wasn’t fair at all. By doing this to Cressida, he would betray her trust and hurt her. She would hate him. He had to, though. He could make sure nothing bad happened, still. He could try and keep her from going downhill. She would still hate him, but she would hate him less than knowing that he had practically killed their classmate.
I’ll do it, but once I find out who you are, you’re going to regret doing this. ~ ASP.
