Oh the yearning Natsu must have for Lucy. He doesn't even know it, but he wants her in a way he's never wanted anything before, and he's so confused. To him, nothing compares to his relationship with Lucy. No parallel lines can be drawn: Gray doesn't connect with Juvia the way he does with Lucy, nor does Gajeel with Levy or Jellal with Erza. (Well, he doesn't think so anyways - but he also doesn't know everything about them.) In Natsu's eyes all he wants is for him and Lucy to live their ideal life: endless adventures, just them and the guild riding life's bumps and valleys together. He's a velcro-partner when it comes to her, yet he can't define it. Defining it would be limiting it, and how dare he limit something so sacred as their connection?

Also the loser doesn't understand the benefits that come with confessing his love to her, but I digress. He yearns for a future with the one he cares for the most, but daring to call it love would be like encapsulating a rainbow. Not the same, not special enough.

I see some Nalu shippers being frustrated that Natsu and Lucy had no development in romance or that they never kissed but I feel like they don't need to kiss or confess to confirm this ship. Some complain they are friends cause Natsu calls her that but Natsu is just like that. Even if he cares more about Lucy he would call her his friend cause they are teammates. But he cares for her much more than friends considering his rage if something happens to her. Lucy is the only one who can calm Natsu if he goes out of control. And they have a fun and entertaining dynamic too. I already like the way they are in the entire series.

Like it's more show and not tell and they has literally faced many things together and their actions prove how much they care. Natsu isn't really not that kind of romantic person as people wants him to be. But that's the best part about him in the romance. It's obvious from the plot how much they care for each other and without Natsu Lucy wouldn't have been able to join the guild of her dreams and the story wouldn't have begun since she is mostly the narrator in the show.

A man who believes in his wife is top tier. And there’s no one that believes in Lucy like Natsu does. He believes in her skills and her judgement never doubting her for a second!
