My favorite tree. Yes, wherever I go, I have to find “favorites” -- trees, restaurants, views... It is the way I find beauty in the world and make a new environment my own.

Ok, how nerdy am I for getting incredibly excited at this Elk sighting? I’ve never had my Nikon and telephoto lens on hand during previous sightings. Now, I stopped the car, crept up to the gate and took as many photos as possible. There were about 30 or 40 elk grazing in an empty field near the river.
I remember when seeing a pigeon counted as “wildlife” during my time in New York. Times change!
Always beautiful at Volunteer Park. For several years, I walked my dog through the park almost every single day. It is now a very special, calming place for me when I return to what was once my beloved home. So much in Seattle has changed in the past few years, but Volunteer Park retains its comforting, quirky, gorgeous public persona. With the changing tides of city expansion, parks are doing the heavy lifting of keeping the tenor of communities intact. I don’t feel melancholy when I return, but a sense of place and comfort.
Snapshots of local sights.
Wooden grain silo, Satsop, Wash.
Love taking photos of this vintage silo The land surrounding is now parceled and for sale. My hope is that this will be seen as valuable and remain, no matter what the land sale brings.
Almost Thanksgiving and all I can think about is gluten-free pies! Apple! Pumpkin! I’m having fun devising a gluten and dairy-free holiday buffet -- and pretty grateful I found an awesome gf pie crust recipe!
Detroit.
While I didn’t join as a revitalization fellow, every day in rural America, I see the universal challenges required to literally change the world around you.
Revisiting one of my favorite pieces of public art: “The Workers” by Tom Morandi. I am always moved by the details & accuracy of roughened hands, abraded clothes and the angles of limbs at work. So rarely are Workers represented in a straight-forward manner, without sentiment or exoticism. I appreciate this piece more each time I visit.
The lines of industry.
Aberdeen, Wash.
A world full of No Trespassing. Rural Life is full of similar signs, on every field and pasture. Get. Out.
This horse needs its own album cover.
Teasil in Fall
One of the most incredible sights I’ve ever seen – acres and acres of spider webs in a field. Rural Life, ftw.
Bethesda, always in my heart.
My beloved pup, Henry. On a walk in around Capitol Lake in Olympia, Wash.
Public parks are the best.
Dan's Dahlias are coming soon! My happy place! Oakville, Washington
