Listen Charlotte was not a perfect mother (at least as seen through the eyes of humbert) but she wanted Dolores to go to college and have a career and LIFE. Dolores should have rebelled against her parents by spending her college fund to move to LA. She should have been a drama teacher or journalist or dancer.
