❛ SO HEY, can you do me a favour and check this wound I got right here? How bad does it look? ❜
“I’m not quite sure that bite counts as a ‘wound’ Mr. Quill.”
Peter gave his best innocent look, as he plotted an actual murder against whoever framed him for this.
"I may have some I could share with such a beautiful lady."
"Such charm. Are you sure it's not a guilty conscience, Mr. Quill?"
"I wouldn't say no to some."
"Uh…this week?"
"Your lunch? I def—ohhh, you think I ate your lunch? No, c’mon, I got lunch in the cafeteria. They were serving those spicy Shi’ar pancake thingies, I love those.”
She scrutinizes him. "Very well. Your jacket is currently being held by Rhomann Dey."
"I suppose I should go find a new luncheon. Perhaps those Shi'ar flatbreads you're fond of if you left any."
"I get that…I may not always be the most stand-up sort of guy, but I definitely didn’t kill anyone today.”
"..."
"It concerns me you appended a 'today' to that statement Mr. Quill. I was speaking of my lunch."
"…Remains? That was definitely not me! I haven’t seen that jacket all day!"
"It will be easier on you if you confess. There were witnesses who said you were in the area."
"I didn’t do it."
"You left your jacket on the remains."

"Mister Quill."
"Why are you all wet?"
Peter twisted his shirt, watching the watching drip off of it. He had hoped to get back to the ship before anyone saw him, but of course it wasn’t just anyone, it was Nova Prime. “Groot is really into your fountains.”
Peter held his head high, doing his best to ignore all the curious looks. “What are you doing in this Sector, anyway?”
She smiled. "I occasionally take time off to take a walk though different sectors. It helps me to connect with my people and grounds me. When you sit in an office for too long directing thousands of subordinates sometimes it's hard to see the little people." She looked around the hustle and bustle. "Seeing everyone like this reminds me they are more than just numbers on my databoard." The Corpsman reappeared holding a couple of large towels and handed them to Peter.
"Why are you all wet?"
Peter twisted his shirt, watching the watching drip off of it. He had hoped to get back to the ship before anyone saw him, but of course it wasn’t just anyone, it was Nova Prime. “Groot is really into your fountains.”
Peter looked down at himself, thought of the distance back to his ship, then gave her a sheepish grin. “I think I’ll have to take you up on that, ma’am.”
"This way then, Mr. Quill." She started walking sedately smiling and nodding to people who greeted her. Reaching the headquarters, the Corpsmen on guard duty stiffened and saluted her. "Corpsman Wres," she addressed one of them, "Mr. Quill here had a mishap with one of the fountains, please fetch him a spare towel from the changing rooms." The Corpsman saluted an affirmative and ran inside.
"Why are you all wet?"
Peter twisted his shirt, watching the watching drip off of it. He had hoped to get back to the ship before anyone saw him, but of course it wasn’t just anyone, it was Nova Prime. “Groot is really into your fountains.”
"Not on purpose," Peter conceded. Groot had just been too excited to think about what he was doing. It was hard to blame him, considering they just got back from a desert planet. "You wouldn’t happen to have ant towels handy?"
"I'm afraid not." He was looking so bedraggled she offered, "I can take you to this Section's Nova headquarters to get some if you wish."
"Why are you all wet?"
Peter twisted his shirt, watching the watching drip off of it. He had hoped to get back to the ship before anyone saw him, but of course it wasn’t just anyone, it was Nova Prime. “Groot is really into your fountains.”
It was an effort not to laugh, though a slight smile broke out. "Did he push you in?" The Flora Colossus didn't strike her as mean, though you never knew.
J’Son scratched quickly at the scruff on his chin— an inpolite habit he’d picked up from parading around as a trader.
"Earlier this week I would’ve believed your vaults to be the most secure place in the quadrant but I think we’re overlooking the obvious."
"Which is the fact that Ronan did touch ground here and your fleet has taken quite a beating..”
"You remind me of things I already worry about, especially considering the rumors of other Stones awakening across the Galaxy."
She sighed and leaned back. "I have to work with what I have. Hopefully we can rebuild before any other insane maniac tries to take it by force. Unless you have a solution?"
“ D anvers. Colonel Carol Danvers. Or Captain Marvel if you’d prefer. You must be Nova Prime. ”
"Indeed, I am."
"Captain Marvel...? Any relation to Mar-Vell of the Kree?"
He smiled kindly, "It’s understandable misinformation."
"I’m grateful that the situation left your planet unharmed and I’m happy to hear that Ronan was neutralized," he leaned forward, "What I’m concerned with is the universal repercussions. Word is getting around that an infinity stone has been found. You tack that on top of the rumors coming from Asgard that they’ve been dabbling with something similar…We’re looking at universal unrest."
"The news has spread that far already?" She sighed.
"I had hoped to find a permanent solution before that happened, unfortunately I can't think of a place more secure-- or more importantly, someone to trust-- to keep it properly contained. Truthfully, if the damn thing hadn't caused them so much hardship, I'd tell Quill and his merry band to go throw it into the nearest black hole."
corpsmandey
"Dey! Did you see Quill off already? How did he react to his restored ship?"
"Thank you," he tucked his hands behind his back and followed her. His formal mannerism coming back easily. Two years of galavanting around the galaxy, pretending to be someone he wasn’t — all gone after two sentences with another global leader.
"Just J’Son," he wasn’t Emperor yet. But if his father had his way, he would’ve been the leader years ago. Eson’s health had declined drastically recently. But he wasn’t dead yet. "I’m here because the Spartax Empire is concerned about the reappearance of an infinity stone."
"Ah. My apologies J'son. Reports from my sources informed me you have taken leadership of Spartax." She sighed wearily at the thought of the Infinity Stone locked in the Corps highest security vault. "I assure you the threat has been contained."
