“yes,” he nodded. he knew he could be too much to handle, but levi knew how to deal with him or this little something would have ended long ago. “we’ve got all the time, we’re still young. -- or one of us is young anyway,” he taunted with smugness. “i mean, you have a pretty great face period,” he pointed out. yes, he knew how to pick them.

when meredith bishop made a promise, she kept it. most often that was due to obligation rather than choice but, nevertheless, the woman prided herself because of it. though, on that particular sunday morning, she found herself immensely regretful for having kept the brunch date that she had made with a family almost as important as the bishops. the engagement, having been made two weeks in advance, was forgotten a week prior to its arrival. and because of that, she had decided to meet with her LOVER the night before. she only had herself to blame for having been so careless to not have made a note of it. running on only a few hours of sleep, she felt MISERABLE. “ we should only be here for another half hour or so, theodore. you’ll be fine, “ she insisted her son, through a forced smile that was not directed at him. her eyes were on the woman sitting across from her that was just GUSHING about her oldest son who she was so, very proud of for graduating from harvard law school in june. she RESENTED the other woman’s pride due to the fact that her son had yet to make her proud of something he did. even though her eyes may have not been on theodore, the boy had her full attention while he recalled a memory from when he was younger. “ how do you remember that ?? “ she questioned the boy, turning her head to finally face him. the woman couldn’t remember the recollection herself, but because it sounded like she would have done, she didn’t doubt the authenticity of it.

the only consolation he had about this whole gimmick was the fact that his mother clearly wasn’t enjoying herself any more than he was. MISERY did love company. he had learned long before how to read the woman, it was a necessity, really. so even as the woman smiled at their hostess, theo knew it was as GENUINE as the meredith’s affection toward her kids. actually, a real smile from his mother was a rarity. “you say that now, but don’t tell me i didn’t warn you when your precious shoes are ruined.” maybe, just maybe he was exaggerating a little, but his mother didn’t need to know. his gaze shifted momentarily to the other woman, he had tuned her out after ten minutes of her nonstop talking, but he couldn’t make it too apparent. fuck could that woman talk. but at least she had quit the incessant attempts to throw her youngest daughter at him. ( how does someone nicely tell a mother that their daughter looks like one of the masks from the purge? ) the question prompted a small shrug from the teen, the indifference that he wanted to pass in one simple movement. theo would never admit to the real reason for that. could never tell the woman that it happened to be one of his most TREASURE memories with her. “i have a good memory. not all of us are approaching old age and all the perks that come with it, mother,” he quipped. but the delivery came with a sweet smile, and none of the onlookers would be able to recognize it as more than a candid interaction between a son and his mother. he had learned the art of deceiving from the best, after all.

there was a part of him ( a big part ) that was sure adriana was an ANGEL put in his life. and boy did he need a guardian angel. that sureness was only amplified during moments like that when he was drunk and half asleep in the passenger seat of her car. it had been a long night, and theo had had more than enough to deem him wasted. but even in his inebriated state, he had had the presence of mind to call the redhead before doing anything STUPID. and that wouldn’t have been the first time. “thanks for the ride, adri,” he stated, head turning toward the girl, his words a little slurred. “remind me to get you anything you want this christmas.” maybe he should get her something before that; december was a long time away still. “d’you think it’s stupid that i kind of want my parents to be there when i get home? i think it’s really WEIRD. kids shouldn’t want to get caught arriving home drunk in the morning and get shit about it, right?” he turned to the girl, thoughts spilling straight out of his mouth without a proper filter. “i don’t know. think we can get some food? i’m starving,” he shrugged.

theo liked to think of himself as being good at reading people ( he liked to think of himself as being good in a lot more than he actually was, though ) and the minute he saw jude he knew something was WRONG. it seemed that whenever he met the blonde there was something going with her. the first time it had been the bruises covering her face, and now it was the glossy eyes that he couldn't ignore. that just wouldn’t do. worried hues regarded the detective ( now, he knew who she was and could link the woman to the officer that his older sister wouldn’t shut up about ). before making his way to her table at the café, the teen made a straight line to the counter, getting both of them drinks and a cupcake. red velvet was always a certain way to cheer someone up, right? “detective belova,” he called amicably, head tilted to his left as he stood next to the older woman. “you don’t mind if i sit here, do you? i come bearing gifts.” he brought the tray he had been carrying to attention, but there was no waiting before he claimed the seat. “and don’t worry, i promise i’m sticking to chocolate frappuccinos these days,” he added playfully. maybe COMFORTING others wasn’t one of the many things he was ( thought he was ) good at after all, but he could try. “i’m also a great listener when i can shut up for more than five minutes or i can just keep talking until whatever is bothering you is replaced by endearing annoyance.”
